Background / History

The Han Family trains young members sent by other factions alongside its own. The program provides instruction while helping the family build influence over those factions. Its position in Tianbei City is contested by the Hong Family, which shares control of the city and has a member in the Wind Lightning Northern Pavilion 3 6.

When the Wu Family sends fourteen-year-old Wu Bai to the program, a Han Family manager discovers that he has reached Ninth Stage Dou Qi. Family head Han Chi approves Qi Gathering Powder for him, then arranges alchemy instruction after tests reveal his fire attribute and Wood Qi. Wu Bai becomes a Third-Rank Alchemist within six months; the family supplies further recipes, ingredients, and a Sixth-Rank Fire Seed in exchange for his work 3 4 5 6 7.

Han Yue invites Wu Bai to accompany her to Jia Nan Academy. Two of her uncles escort the party on its journey, and later ask Wu Bai to look after the younger Han Family members studying there. Several of those trainees eventually qualify for the Inner Academy 7 11 12 31.

• Family academy — Provides practice rooms, medicine cauldrons, ingredients, and lessons from Zhu Qian once every half-month 5.
• Library — Holds cultivation methods and is guarded by a Dou Huang and two Dou Ling 4.
• Alchemy resources — The family gives Wu Bai access to pill formulas and herbs below the fifth grade, as well as a Fire Seed from a Sixth-Rank Crimson Sun Blazing Flame Tiger 6 7.
• Escort strength — Two of Han Yue’s uncles, described as Dou Emperor experts, accompany the young travelers toward Jia Nan Academy 11.

Relationships

• Wu Family — One of the factions that sends a young member to train with the Han Family. Its decision to send Wu Bai surprises Han Family staff and Han Chi 3 5.
• Wu Bai — Initially recruited through the training program, he becomes a valued alchemist. The family pays him for fifty portions of Qi Gathering Powder, and its younger members later rely on him at Jia Nan Academy 6 10 12.
• Hong Family — A rival faction sharing control of Tianbei City; its growing connections increase the pressure on Han Chi to retain talent 6.
