"Hmph!" Kushina Uzumaki shot Uchiha Yi an unhappy look. He wouldn't even speak up for her. Were they still best friends or not?
But Mito Uzumaki clearly wasn't going to let her refuse either, so Kushina said no more. She only warned Yi, "When you go to the Land of Water, make sure you teach those Mist Ninja a lesson!
"They're awful!"
Kushina still hated Kirigakure. If she could, she wanted to go there and take revenge herself, but she feared she would have a hard time leaving Konoha.
"I'll do my best. Don't worry, Kushina!" Then, as if something had occurred to him, Yi added, "I'll also see whether they took anyone from the Uzumaki Clan. If there's a chance, I'll fight my way into Kirigakure and rescue them for you."
"What? Fight your way into Kirigakure?" Kushina grew frantic. "Yi, don't take that risk. If something's happened to them, then it's happened. Save them if you can, but if you can't, let it go."
Kushina did care about the Uzumaki Clan, but that bond was one of blood. Her immediate family had died before her eyes in that war.
In fact, Mito Uzumaki, Tsunade, and Nawaki were now her closest living relatives by blood.
Yi felt much the same way. He wasn't especially attached to the Uchiha Clan either, though he wouldn't mind lending a hand if he could save them.
Only when Yi became the Uchiha Clan Head would he consider them his own. He needed Uchiha who would work for him, not Uchiha who would hold him back at every turn.
At this point, Yi no longer needed to take pride in being an Uchiha. The Uchiha needed to take pride in him.
