"But even if we do nothing, they still won't have enough food. Won't they take advantage of Konoha's lack of preparation and raid the Land of Fire?" Nawaki scratched his head.
Instead of answering Nawaki, Uchiha Yi turned to Minato Namikaze. "What do you think, Minato? Think on the darker side."
Minato fell silent. He was just a cheerful, good-looking young man. Why was Uchiha Yi asking him to come up with something sinister?
Does he think I have a knack for that?
Still, his mind raced. After a long while, he looked at Uchiha Yi with mixed feelings and asked uncertainly, "Could this have something to do with Lord Hokage's dispute with the Daimyō?
"You said the Daimyō sold grain to the Land of Wind. He gave Konoha some supplies too, but he still harmed Konoha's interests.
"If the Mist Ninja raid parts of the Land of Fire, it'll hurt the Land of Fire, not Konoha.
"That would also be a way to get back at the Daimyo's Residence. Some losses at the start of a war are understandable. Even if the Daimyō wants to blame Konoha, he won't have grounds to. After all, the samurai from the Daimyo's Residence are usually the main force guarding the border."
Uchiha Yi gave Minato an approving look. As expected of the man who would become the Fourth Hokage. Though he had been a puppet in Hiruzen Sarutobi's hands, his ability was beyond question.
Minato probably hadn't wanted to remain Hiruzen Sarutobi's puppet. Befriending the Uchiha Clan had been one way to break free, and the Uchiha had been willing to befriend him in return. If Minato hadn't died so young, he could have taken Uchiha Itachi as his student. That might have resolved the Uchiha Clan's troubles while securing their support
