Uchiha Yi had no reason to doubt Guy's talent. Even learning Taijutsu required talent in the Shinobi World.

Come to think of it, Guy had trained day after day for decades, rain or shine. Wasn't that a talent in itself?

Yi didn't need to worry that helping Guy gain more resources and visibility as the Hokage's disciple would expose him to criticism and hinder his growth. Guy would only train harder.

Yi didn't need to teach Guy much, either. He only had to let Guy grow along his original path and lend him a hand now and then.

Yi knew the Eight Gates too, though his version was Rock Lee's. He could open no more than six gates.

If we train him, he may one day be able to fight the Third Raikage with Taijutsu alone," Yi said. "That child is suited to learning the Eight Gates."

"The Eight Gates? You've already put it into practice?" Hiruzen was startled. Tobirama Senju had proposed the idea, theorizing that with the right stimulation, opening all eight gates would grant strength comparable to a Hokage's.

Hiruzen had taken "comparable to a Hokage" to mean comparable to himself.
