A’s lightning armor gives him exceptional speed and protects him against Yan’s sword strikes. Even when Minato hits him with a Rasengan, A remains standing with only a few wounds 38.

• Defense — Yan needs a carefully timed thrust to pierce A’s hand through the armor 38.
• Limitation — The armor does not make him immune to injury 38.

Close-Quarters Combat

• Lariat — A opens his attack on an exhausted Yan with a shouted Lariat 37.
• Adaptation — After seeing Yan’s hand-seal-free substitutions, A begins anticipating where he will reappear 38.

• Minato Namikaze — Intervenes before A can kill Yan. A withdraws rather than continue the fight near Konoha forces 38.

Story Role / Major Arcs

• Clash with Yan — Recalled from the Land of Wind, A arrives after Yan has pursued and killed a retreating Kumogakure squad. Yan wounds his hand and survives by repeatedly evading him, but is too injured and low on chakra to sustain the fight. Minato’s arrival forces A to retreat 37 38.
• Reputation campaign — Playboy Ninja publishes comics depicting A and his father in lurid, invented exploits. Kumogakure bans the comics, but copies continue to circulate 39.
• Stolen technique — Yan uses observations from their fight to recreate Lightning Release Chakra Mode. When the Shinobi World Daily later advertises its secrets, A recognizes Yan as the person behind the Lightning comic 43 48.
