"Sea God's Wrath?" Ye Chuqi finally heard something interesting. "Didn't they say what caused it? They must have had a reason to think that. Didn't they blame a specific event, or a specific person?"
Fermowen, the younger brother, nodded and was about to speak when his older brother, Ferrandi, tugged him back. Both brothers looked at Akes.
"Yes," Akes said with a sigh. She still hadn't decided whether to tell them. "This involves too much. I didn't want you to know."
"Oh," Ye Chuqi said. "When Elmer warned us not to take this job or come to Mussel Bay, it was probably because this matter runs deep and really is dangerous. Or perhaps the Herman family is too deeply involved and doesn't want us learning the truth?"
Akes nodded. "The Sea Beast attacks are almost beside the point. You're clever. I'm sure you've noticed plenty that doesn't add up."
"The Adventurers' Guild has only a handful of unaffiliated adventurers dealing with the Sea Beast attacks. That's not how the guild operates. If a job this difficult involved Sea Demons, they would've shared it with other cities long ago and brought in more adventurers. Someone must be suppressing the news."
Cyril stopped shelling peanuts. "Then why are we here?" If someone didn't want more people to know, how had the job ended up on the Imperial Capital Academy's task list?
Ye Chuqi smiled. "Either someone deliberately leaked the news because they wanted help, or the posting is a smokescreen. They might think that even if students from the Imperial Capital Academy show up, they'll just be a few spoiled young nobles who are easy to fool."
Her companions: "..." That was nothing to be happy about!
