Background and History

Bege spent fifteen years building his position in the West Blue. By the time Jack was imprisoned on Banaro Island, Iron Cage City was an outpost of Bege’s alliance. Its arena supplied fighters, while twelve mafia families operated across his territory and paid a combined tribute of approximately eighty million Beli per month. The alliance’s businesses included arms supply and human trafficking 1 15 30.

Bege attended an arena event at which Jack was expected to execute a captured Marine corporal. When Jack instead placed the corporal under his protection, Bege sent his Doberman-form bodyguard into the cage. After Jack killed the bodyguard, Bege offered him a Bison-form Ox-Ox Fruit in exchange for lifelong service under Seastone restraint. Jack crushed the fruit and escaped, prompting Bege to pressure the Arena Master to deal with him 8 10 11 12 13.

Jack subsequently destroyed the Banaro arena, disrupted the Moretti Family’s trafficking route at Salt Harbor, and shut down the Caroni Family’s casino on Caria Island. The casino had supported Bege’s money laundering, drug trade, and human trafficking. Colonel Bastian of the Marine 16th Branch also attempted to help Bege eliminate Jack in exchange for continued mafia support 25 28 29.

Jack later invited Bege to ostensible peace talks, demanding three Devil Fruits. Bege countered with an offer that required Jack to work against rival families before receiving any fruit. Jack attacked him, and the ensuing battle ended with Bege defeated and critically injured. A report to Marine Headquarters subsequently confirmed Bege’s death and the dissolution of the West Blue Mafia Alliance 29 30 34 35.

Appearance

Bege is described as a man in his early thirties with sharply defined features. He is not particularly tall or physically imposing in his ordinary form 8 11.

Personality

Bege approaches fighters and alliances as business investments. He appraises Jack’s combat ability and controllability, then offers him a valuable Devil Fruit only on terms that would make Jack a restrained servant. During their later negotiations, he again insists on receiving work before paying with Devil Fruits 11 30.

He usually maintains a composed, courteous manner, even when Jack attacks his guards and escapes. Crushing the Bison-form fruit nevertheless provokes genuine anger, while Iron Mask’s injuries force Bege to abandon his hands-off stance and fight personally 11 12 31.
