Background

Before entering the academy, Sasuke secretly trained in the forest to improve himself and surprise Itachi. He encountered Naruto there, dismissed Naruto’s difficulty with the Clone Technique, and accepted Naruto’s challenge after taking the provocation as an insult to the Uchiha Clan 10.

Naruto overwhelmingly defeated him. Sasuke’s anger and humiliation triggered his One-Tomoe Sharingan, a reaction compared to his awakening on the night of the Uchiha Clan Massacre. Itachi calmed the unconscious Sasuke and took him home, while Sasuke resolved to defeat Naruto and prove the Uchiha Clan’s strength 11 12.

As a member of Team 7, Sasuke developed a fighting style centered on overwhelming firepower, Lightning Release, the Sharingan, and his self-styled Mystic Heavy Ruler. Orochimaru later branded him with a Cursed Seal; although Sasuke recognized Orochimaru’s interest in possessing him, he accepted the strength the seal provided 66 75.

His hatred of Itachi remained his defining goal. Sasuke ambushed Itachi with sealing scrolls, lime powder, and the Mystic Heavy Ruler, but was defeated by Tsukuyomi 100 101. The possibility that the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan could allow him to defeat Naruto is enough to overcome his disgust at taking Itachi’s eyes 237.
