The moment Itachi approached Yakumo, he found that he could no longer move.
He looked around. The trees and earth were gone, replaced by a sea of fire and lava. Waves of heat battered his body, as though he would be burned alive at any moment.
"Not bad, as Genjutsu goes." Itachi calmly surveyed his surroundings and nodded. "Tell me your name."
But no answer came. Instead, countless streams of lava surged toward him.
"Not quite enough." Itachi shook his head slightly. The three tomoe of his Sharingan spun, and the sea of fire and lava vanished.
The trees and earth returned to view, and Kurama Yakumo appeared before him once more.
But now Yakumo's face was full of terror. Sweat poured down her face, and she stared at Itachi in disbelief.
"It's over." Itachi's voice remained as flat as ever. He looked at Yakumo as though she were already dead.
As he spoke, he suddenly appeared in front of her. A Kunai had somehow appeared in his hand, and he drove it hard toward her throat.
Something's wrong!
Splurt!
Blood sprayed!
Itachi abruptly activated his Mangekyō Sharingan. The scene around him shattered like a mirror, and Yakumo was nowhere in sight.
Yakumo had not escaped with the Body Flicker Technique. She had never been there at all. Everything he had just seen was still an illusion!
And Itachi's Kunai had not been aimed at Yakumo's throat. It had been aimed at his own!
At the last instant, Itachi had sensed something wrong. He tried to stop the Kunai, but his hand was no longer under his control. All he could do was twist his neck aside, sending the blade into his left shoulder instead.
He had then activated his Mangekyō Sharingan immediately.
Itachi pulled the Kunai from his shoulder.
