Then she snatched the Kunai from him and thrust it toward his neck.

Looking at the masked Ninja before him—Karin—Itachi could not yet tell whether she had truly fallen under his Genjutsu, but he was certain she was from the Uzumaki Clan.

He also realized that the Adamantine Sealing Chains, a technique designed specifically to restrain Tailed Beasts, had caught him.

To break free in time, he had to kill or control the caster: Karin.

Just as the Kunai in Karin's right hand was about to pierce Itachi's neck, a vine suddenly burst from beneath her feet. Snap! It coiled around her right arm, then tightened around her throat!

Zetsu had clearly come to the rescue.
