Su Yi swiped his card and rode the elevator as it stopped and started all the way up. It took a full ten minutes to reach the 421st floor.
The sudden stops and accelerations felt like a bus ride and nearly made Su Yi throw up.
When he stepped out, he found the floor much quieter.
A few steps ahead lay a reception hall of at least two hundred square meters. The first thing he saw was a large sign to one side: Human Resources Department.
Around a hundred young people stood in the hall, neatly dressed and chatting in small groups.
Some looked nervous, some eager, and some relaxed.
They were clearly new hires completing their onboarding today.
Su Yi approached the reception desk, which was a good ten meters wide, and explained why he was there.
A woman of about thirty with light makeup sat behind it. After checking his information, she paused in surprise, then smiled and produced a thick stack of documents. "Please sign these."
"Give me these four booklets when you're done. The other two are yours to keep."
"Once you've signed them, wait for me to call you."
Su Yi stared at the documents, which were a full thirty centimeters thick, utterly baffled.
Still, he carried them to a round table, took out a pen, and began signing.
The contents were tedious and complicated. Su Yi could not understand many of the "technical terms" that ran longer than fifteen characters.
A young man beside him laughed. "Don't bother reading them. Just sign."
"Unless you have a lawyer here to go through them with you, you won't understand them."
Su Yi turned to see a smiling, short-haired young man in an ordinary black suit.
