Background and history

Ilis is a daughter of Mata Barrett. Early in the story, she seeks a promotion by bringing the Rhodes Alliance’s border region under her control, but a limited budget, broken funding promises and departmental rivals obstruct her plans. Determined not to remain dependent on her father’s status, she begins building her own faction 49 61.

Su Yi first saves Ilis near the Void Abyss Mountains. She rewards him, then later tests his usefulness by ordering him to eliminate the Wolf Fang Gang within a month. His results in Rootvine District turn her initial indifference into active support: she arranges a company identity for him and eventually makes him a senior operative 1 38 49 61 81.

Their work on Rhode Star earns Ilis an SSS talent rating of 982/1,000. Her company rank rises from L26 to L32 after the campaign; she later transfers to the Criminal Department as a Keeper of Secrets, reaching Rank 40 while investigating concealed crimes through other people’s memories 164 270. The work exposes her to forbidden knowledge and leaves her exhausted despite showing no outward cognitive decline in company tests 270 271.

Ilis is revealed to be an uncontaminated fragment of the Goddess of Black Cinders. At Diamond Star, she takes the Ember Tree and its authority from Su Yi, apparently turning against him. Later events establish that she is not controlled by the Nightmare: she has been working to protect the region and recover the Goddess’s authority 423 459. After surviving the Primordial Fire’s trial, she returns as the Primordial Mother of Fire and begins a campaign against the fallen Goddess of Black Cinders 614.

Appearance

Ilis is 174 centimeters tall, with fair skin, sharp features and violet eyes. She is often seen in tailored gray suits, heels and a ponytail; her hair is described as silver-brown or silver in earlier appearances 34 81 109 164.

• After the Eternal Spear Satellite advancement: Her hair becomes jet-black and reaches her heels 422.
• As the Primordial Mother of Fire: Her true form is a vast, golden-flamed Firmiana Tree. She can appear in a golden robe and sunlit crown, carrying a flaming scepter 614.

Personality

Ilis is ambitious and politically calculating. She tests prospective allies, cultivates useful talent and is willing to use covert violence to protect her plans. She also rejects being treated as a decorative heiress or a commander who sends others into danger while remaining safe herself 38 61 101.

Her relationship with Su Yi gradually exposes a more protective and vulnerable side. She is affected by the loyalty his followers show him, shields his advancement, and eventually admits how frightening and isolating her memory-search work has become 107 109 172 271. After her transformation, Su Yi observes that her former coldness has given way to a comforting, maternal warmth 614.

Memory Authority

• Weaving of Yore: An SS-rank Boon that views and overwrites a target’s recent memories. At level 20, Ilis can affect targets no more than five levels above her; it costs 300 Bandwidth per use, has a one-minute cooldown and covers 10–600 seconds depending on level 171.
• Memory Simulacrum: Creates a memory-based double that can act independently and use some of her abilities 339.
• Hell of Suffering: Traps a target in agonizing memories; Ilis uses it to defeat Julie 382.
• Investigative use: Her memory searches uncover hidden dealings, but forbidden recollections carry a substantial psychological and corruption risk 270.

Fire and divine authority

• Ilis can wield both the Goddess of Black Cinders’ authority and powers she gains through her own advancement. After becoming the Primordial Mother of Fire, she answers followers’ prayers, purges Nightmare corruption and empowers Golden Flame as a Demigod apostle 459 614.
• Her divine transformation links her to flame and light, while preserving the human memories that sustained her through the Primordial Fire’s trial 614.

Combat

• Ilis fights in advanced powered armor with two Ion Lightsabers and enters the front line during the Void Abyss crisis 104.
• Her memory powers also support combat: she disrupts Cocos long enough to pull Su Yi away from him 382.

Equipment and items

• Spear of Ten Thousand Worlds — An Ancient Artifact recovered after her Eternal Spear Satellite advancement. It can take the form of a glove, but using its powers consumes memories, potentially years of personal history 422.
• Book of Yore — A memory archive granted by the Deceiver of Yore that filters madness and distortion, reducing a major danger of her work 339.
• Ashen Mimicry Suit — A dark-aligned gift from the Goddess of Black Cinders 375.
• Powered armor and Ion Lightsabers — Equipment used when she joins the Void Abyss battle 104.

• Su Yi Horus Constantine Gheros — Initially her rescued benefactor and tested subordinate; later her trusted partner and lover. Their apparent betrayal at Diamond Star is followed by a covertly coordinated strike against the Watchful Elder 1 38 164 271 423 511.
• Rick — Trusted adviser and intermediary whom she calls Uncle Rick. She draws comfort from thinking of him during her difficult Criminal Department work 38 61 270.
• Mata Barrett — Her father; Ilis works to establish influence independent of him 61 105.
• Caroline — Star Knights commander who tries to recruit Su Yi, prompting a sharp exchange with Ilis 105.
