The two intruders' identities weren't hard to guess.
Clearly, they were the uninvited guests who had cut the power and broken into the House of Evolution.
Dr. Genus said, "Forget the intruders for now. Tell me where you sensed that powerful presence."
Genus still had no reason to believe that someone Carnage Kabuto considered strong could be one of the two people before him.
Carnage Kabuto froze for a moment, then pointed at Luke's round, bald head. "Right there."
Genus was dumbfounded.
As the ultimate product of artificial evolution, Carnage Kabuto had senses sharper than any precision instrument. There was no chance he was mistaken.
Genus had to accept two harsh realities.
First, Eve had very likely escaped from the House of Evolution.
Second, he had underestimated the bald man's strength.
Genus had weathered his share of storms. Forcing down the crushing pain of losing Eve, he said coldly to Carnage Kabuto, "Then kill these two first."
Carnage Kabuto had long been itching for a fight. At Dr. Genus's order, he turned his gaze to Mitarai Fubuki, who stood behind Luke.
The woman was in the way. He might as well get rid of her first.
Carnage Kabuto had no notion of going easy on a woman. Others might consider Mitarai Fubuki a beauty, but to him, she was just a weakling who deserved no mercy.
In Carnage Kabuto's world, only strength and weakness mattered. Beauty meant nothing.
Carnage Kabuto looked bulky, but he moved like lightning. He sprang forward and appeared behind Luke in the blink of an eye.
His nearly invulnerable body hurtled toward Fubuki like a cannonball.
Fubuki sensed the danger approaching, but it was too late to dodge.
She barely managed to compress the air around her, but an air barrier would do almost nothing against an attack like this.
With Carnage Kabuto's weight and terrifying speed, the impact would rival a fully loaded heavy truck. The instant he struck her, he would send her flying.
Carnage Kabuto was about to kill Fubuki in a single blow when an overwhelming sense of danger seized him.
His instincts told him that if he charged straight at the woman, he would die before she did.
Whether he could even take her down with him was uncertain.
Carnage Kabuto had no desire to trade his life for a woman he considered worthless.
He trusted his instincts. They were a combat talent he had relied on all his life.
They had never led him astray.
Nor had he ever felt the fear of his own death.
The speeding truck wrenched its steering wheel at the last second and veered off course.
Carnage Kabuto didn't stop until he reached the corner of the room.
Terror filled his face. With his back against the wall, he cowered in the corner, trembling like a frightened child.
Even through his fear, Carnage Kabuto kept his eyes fixed on the bald man in the distance.
That man had made him feel the terror of staring death in the face.
Yet to Carnage Kabuto, the man looked full of openings.
He had no peerless physique, no unstoppable fighting spirit, no air of invincibility.
He had almost none of the qualities a strong fighter should possess.
But his instincts did not lie. This man was the most terrifying opponent Carnage Kabuto had ever encountered.
To fight him, Carnage Kabuto would have to give everything he had—and be ready to die.
Carnage Kabuto couldn't help shouting, "Why?"
"Why are you so strong?"
"Huh?" Luke looked baffled.
"You bastard..." For the first time, Carnage Kabuto felt the heavens were deeply unfair. Envy and resentment filled his voice. "How did you get such incredible power?"
Luke wasn't the only one baffled. Mitarai Fubuki and Dr. Genus were too.
Dr. Genus could not understand why his proudest creation, Carnage Kabuto—the nearly unbeatable pinnacle of his work—was acting like a weakling before an utterly ordinary Baldy.
Mitarai Fubuki didn't know why the terrifying monster had spared her, or why he was so afraid of Luke.
Fubuki was beginning to realize that Luke's true strength might be more than the double A in strength and speed she had imagined.
"Do you really want to know?" Luke said. "All right. I'll tell you."
Carnage Kabuto froze.
Could he really just tell him?
Was this man truly about to reveal the secret to his incredible strength?
Carnage Kabuto wasn't alone. Mitarai Fubuki and Dr. Genus held their breath too, waiting for Luke to continue.
"Listen up, everyone. I don't know if you could stick with training this intense. But I got where I am today because I trained every single day."
Those words hit Dr. Genus like a boulder plunging into water, sending waves crashing through his mind.
Training? Not genetic modification or some other method—just training?
If training alone could make a human this strong, wouldn't my life's work be a joke?
What kind of training could make an ordinary human body stronger than the ultimate product of artificial evolution?
"Here's my daily routine: one hundred push-ups! One hundred sit-ups! One hundred squats! Then a ten-kilometer run! I do it every single day. That's the secret to my strength!"
Luke was completely serious.
The other three stood petrified.
Mitarai Fubuki was speechless. Even now, he was in the mood to joke?
That level of training wouldn't be much even for an ordinary person.
Plenty of people at any gym trained harder than that.
Carnage Kabuto's shock slowly turned to anger.
That damn Baldy was openly insulting him.
He wasn't just insulting his dignity. He was insulting his intelligence.
His uncontrollable rage and inborn lust for battle overcame his fear of death.
Carnage Kabuto's voice suddenly became eerily calm. "If you don't want to share your secret, you don't have to toy with me. I may not be as strong as you, but I'm furious. And there's one thing I want you to know..."
Carnage Kabuto's body began to crackle. Fine fractures spread across the heavy armor covering him.
His muscles swelled rapidly until they burst through the armor, exposing blue-purple skin to the air.
His flawless body radiated a terrifying pressure in every direction.
Suffocating power!
Carnage Kabuto's voice echoed through the cavernous room.
"Never trample on the dignity of the weak!"
