San Andreas lay on the west coast of the Federation. It was the most prosperous city in the entire western region, and Frieza Heights, nestled at the foot of Mount Freeza, was its wealthiest neighborhood.
Frieza Heights was San Andreas's most famous city within a city. It boasted one of the world's most exclusive Shopping Streets and some of its most expensive mansions. Film stars and business leaders lived there, making it a dream address for the world's richest people.
The Mitarai Family estate stood halfway up the slope of Frieza Heights.
The Mitarai parents had left Fubuki and Tatsumaki little in the way of spiritual riches, but they had wanted for nothing material. This magnificent Western-style mansion was one example.
Tatsumaki Mitarai, the elder daughter of the Mitarai Family and co-owner of the mansion, sat on a lounge chair beside the private pool, staring blankly at the night sky.
The chair had been ergonomically designed to fit an adult's resting posture perfectly. It did not, however, seem quite right for Tatsumaki.
Tatsumaki reclined against it with only half her body on the seat. From behind the chair, barely the top of her head was visible, while her little feet swung back and forth in the air.
Fubuki came out of the living room and set a bottle of warm milk on the glass table beside Tatsumaki.
"There, I warmed it up for you," Fubuki said, then settled onto the lounge chair next to her.
Tatsumaki crouched on her chair and stretched out an arm. Even then, she only just managed to reach the bottle.
She bit down on the straw and grumbled, "Honestly, couldn't you put it a little closer?"
"Not my fault you're so short, Sister," Fubuki shot back.
Fubuki was the only person in the world who could call Tatsumaki short without instantly vanishing from her sight.
Tatsumaki took a long drink. The warm milk slid down her throat and warmed her stomach, and she patted her belly in satisfaction.
Ah, Grow-Tall Brand Milk. The same familiar taste.
Tatsumaki had drunk Grow-Tall Brand Milk since she was little—more than twenty years now.
"Drink Grow-Tall Brand Milk and grow tall in no time."
Its slogan was as deeply ingrained in people's minds as Wangba Brand Shampoo's.
As for the results customers got from using them, the two were about equally effective.
"Fubuki, what have you been up to lately? You've been disappearing all the time these past few days." Now that she'd eaten and drunk her fill, Tatsumaki started complaining.
Fubuki naturally couldn't tell her sister she was putting together the Blizzard Group, so she said, "Nothing much. I've just been shopping down on the Shopping Street at the foot of the mountain."
Shopping was one of Fubuki's few hobbies. Tatsumaki knew that.
The Shopping Street in Frieza Heights was among the most exclusive in the world. Its glittering storefronts housed the finest fashion brands from across the globe, lending the neighborhood's nightscape a dazzling splendor.
Fortunately, the Mitarai Family had deep pockets. Otherwise, they could never have supported Fubuki's extravagant hobby.
"Why do you always go shopping alone? Can't you take me with you?" Tatsumaki looked at Fubuki, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Fubuki felt a headache coming on and refused without hesitation. "No. Absolutely not."
Other people might not know what Tatsumaki was like, but Fubuki knew her sister better than anyone in the world.
Her sister was tiny, hot-tempered, and notorious for causing trouble.
Take her shopping? What a joke. If she accidentally wrecked a luxury boutique, even the Mitarai Family would feel the cost.
Tatsumaki looked terribly disappointed. "But I'm so bored I could scream."
Fubuki glanced at the messy mass of green curls atop Tatsumaki's head and couldn't help thinking, No kidding. Her hair's practically a bird's nest.
"Isn't Spy x Family getting new episodes?" Fubuki asked. "Have you watched them?"
Tatsumaki frowned. "I finished them ages ago. The updates are so slow. There's nowhere near enough to watch."
"Then watch them again," Fubuki said, her face blank.
Tatsumaki glanced at her hardhearted little sister, pursed her lips to herself, and stood up barefoot.
On closer inspection, her little feet weren't touching the ground. They hovered a few centimeters above it, a faint green glow shining from her soles.
"Fine, don't take me. Like I care." Tatsumaki talked tough, but she had already made up her mind in secret.
Tomorrow I'll follow Fubuki and see what she's really up to.
Tatsumaki floated toward her room.
Ever since she had learned to stand, Tatsumaki had rarely bothered walking anywhere.
That was what set Tatsumaki apart from Fubuki. Her Psychic Powers were so thoroughly part of her that she could use them unconsciously, without deliberately controlling them.
Before long, Tatsumaki floated back out of her room.
This time, she held a toothbrush and a rinsing cup.
She floated over the swimming pool and began the last part of her nightly routine.
Brushing her teeth.
"How many times have I told you not to brush your teeth over the pool?" Fubuki said, exasperated. "You may not use it, but I do."
Tatsumaki looked down at her with an expression that said, Mind your own business.
If you won't take me out, why should I listen to you?
Besides, Tatsumaki couldn't use the pool anyway.
That Evil Fubuki always filled it so high that whenever Tatsumaki stood in it, the water reached her forehead.
Eventually, to spare herself the humiliation in front of her little sister, Tatsumaki had given up on using the pool altogether.
But Tatsumaki had discovered another use for it.
It could catch her toothpaste foam and the water she spat out after rinsing.
It was a brilliant way to kill two birds with one stone.
Not only could Tatsumaki enjoy the night view without a care while brushing her teeth, but Fubuki had barely used the pool lately anyway.
Fubuki saw Tatsumaki's stubborn little expression and sighed helplessly.
There was really nothing she could do about a sister who loved making a fuss over nothing.
Fubuki had realized there was nothing normal about her sister.
Her mind wasn't normal, and neither was her physical development.
Most importantly, her strength was anything but normal.
She wasn't merely unlike an ordinary person. She barely seemed human.
As usual, Tatsumaki brushed her teeth while gazing up at the night sky.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up. She pointed overhead and called to Fubuki, "Look!"
Fubuki raised her head. Beneath the bright moon, a dark figure flew through the air, blocking part of its light.
Tatsumaki thought it might be an alien from outer space or a dark wizard riding a broom, and she grew wildly excited.
As the figure drew closer, Tatsumaki gradually made out what it was.
A blond man in a tight blue suit was flying toward them at high speed.
"Superman!"
Tatsumaki cried out.
