As for their encounter with what appeared to be a projection of the Spider Queen in Subspace, and their being thrown out by her, Femi suspected it had something to do with his lord.
But what Femi saw as an act of kindness from the Spider Queen looked very different to the Blackwatch soldiers. To them, it was proof that she had colluded with the Demons and Ratfolk, then tossed the soldiers out for them to deal with. The Anti-Magic Field prepared in advance only confirmed it.
The incomplete information had led them into a serious misunderstanding.
"No, that's wrong." Adjutant Locran spoke firmly. "How could the Spider Queen collude with them... cooperate with them?"
Femi felt the same way. He had followed Annan since Star-Moon Bay and had seen Annan happily playing on the grass with Little Spider, the Spider Queen's incarnation. After that, she had no reason to help the Ratfolk.
They believed Lord Annan could do anything, even if Spider Queen Lolth was a Betrayer infamous across many Planes.
Besides, if the Far North had been prepared as a place of exile, the Ratfolk would not have taken until now to find the Blackwatch Legion.
So... they stayed where they were.
Femi thought of a way to determine which possibility was true: watch what the Ratfolk and Demons did next.
The first possibility: the Ratfolk had merely discovered a group of humans that had suddenly appeared in their territory and sent a Rat Swarm to capture them for questioning.
The second: the Ratfolk and Demons were carrying out some secret plot in the Far North. Their arrival had alarmed them, so they would kill everyone on the spot to keep it secret.
The last, and worst, possibility: the Demons and Ratfolk had confirmed that the Blackwatch Legion
