The residents gathered in the square of their own accord. Their leader, Old Zoran, raised his cane:

The Subjects, their courage roused, charged toward the City Wall with pitchforks and axes. Before they reached it, cheers of victory rang out from above.
"We won?"
The Subjects looked at one another. A head popped up over the City Wall. "We won! It was over before they even had time to cry!"
The cheers spread below the City Wall, then through the Town.
The guards were celebrating an unlikely victory won with the help of the City Wall. Around Annan, though, Wei maintained an eerie silence.
"Charging Cavalry at the City Wall is suicide, but they did it anyway... Arrogance, or a plot?" Annan felt there was more to it. He stared at the bodies scattered outside the City Wall. Were the Knights' Order playing dead to lure them into opening the gate?
"Their Grand Commander didn't dodge my Arcane Beam," Mr. Swaro said. "And their chief mage never made a move."

Mr. Swaro was about to answer when chaos erupted below the City Wall. Several figures attacked the Subjects in a frenzy, flitting through the crowd like butterflies among fallen leaves.

"Thank you, Mr. Swaro." Annan breathed a sigh of relief. He had the Earth Elemental encase them in rock and soil, then sent guards to take them to the Dungeon.
