"How are you going to sell us off this time?"
The Hairless Werewolf stared at Annan. The other Oddities huddled together and stared at him too.
If they hadn't feared the Warden's power, they would already have ground Annan's bones to dust...
"Why would you think that? I've been trying to get you out of here, and I've just made some progress... by working for the Warden."
"What does that mean?" Candle Head asked.
"The Warden thinks the church needs cleaning. I went to a lot of trouble to get him to let you help clean it, so don't waste my efforts."
The Oddities felt that something was off, but they really could enter the church, which had once been forbidden to them...
Since it gave them more room to move around, some of the Oddities agreed to Annan's plan. Others refused, including the Oddity that looked most like a human.
"Then you can stay in the Dungeon for another thirty-four years." Annan watched it and started to walk away.
"What do you mean?" The Oddity stopped.
"I saw a sheet of parchment on the Warden's desk. It listed how long each prisoner would be held." Annan had no qualms about deceiving the Oddities.
"How many years do I have?" the Slug asked.
"Twelve." The Slug had been a child in life, so Annan hadn't made its sentence too long.
"What about me?" the Drawing Board wrote on itself.
"The same as the Slug."
"How many years do I have?" the Hairless Werewolf asked.
"Twenty-eight." It looked like it had caused plenty of trouble.
The other Oddities asked in turn, and Annan gave each an answer.
"Have you forgotten how many times he's lied to us?" The humanlike Oddity still didn't believe him. "I bet you've already forgotten the sentences
