"What's so hard to shoulder?" Donald asked, baffled.

Milton sighed. "Lizards aren't born knowing how to mine, and lizards that could already be classed as Calamities definitely didn't arise naturally. Someone has to be directing them from behind the scenes."

"I know. There's some shrieking fellow back there directing them," Donner said dismissively. "So what? That thing can't come out during the day either. As long as we aren't stupid enough to come at night, what can it do to us?"

Milton shook his head. "It's not that simple! Brother, trust me. We leave now. If you won't believe me, there's nothing I can do except go on ahead by myself."
