Pan Long had felt for a while that something was wrong.
None of the people he knew in this world had ever shown any ability to use Spells. In all the conversations he had overheard at the tavern these past few days, no one had mentioned "wizards" or "Warlocks," either. And in his memories of the game Soul: Calamity Kingdom, he could not recall anything about Spells at all.
This was not a purely scientific world devoid of supernatural forces, but those forces showed themselves more in things like "advanced technology" and "extraordinary martial arts." As for Spells... Spells? What was that?
So when he learned that the main way people in this world fought Calamity was through the prayers of Holy Servants, his first instinct was that something was off.
Were a Holy Servant's prayers really that powerful?
If prayer could stop Calamity from erupting nearby, why not send Holy Servants to pray in cities like Velen City, where Calamity had already erupted, and quell it there?
Surely building a Shelter around a city with all its facilities already in place would be much easier than building one from scratch.
After arriving in Holy Salt Town, he still had not found anyone who knew anything about Spells. When he asked about Holy Servants, all he got were answers like "anyone can become a Holy Servant," "devout service matters most," and "prayer is indispensable."
Hey! Shouldn't there be some kind of aptitude requirement?
Dispersing Calamity and protecting an entire town through prayer alone did not seem like something just any Tom, Dick, or Harry could do!
He had not met those Holy Servants in person, but he would stake his life on this: he had never sensed even a trace of Magic Power or a tremor of spiritual energy from
