The camp on the north bank of the Hofenstein River had been named Victory Camp, both to commemorate yesterday's great victory and to invite more victories to come. Its position was well chosen, on a northward bulge west of the Hofenstein River. Advancing from there, the warriors needed only to guard their right flank, whether the enemy's main force came from the Gates of Dikolia, Mother Mountain, or Lake Lambrado.
To attack the Andralina demon army's headquarters from there and take the town called the Gates of Dikolia, they would have to march roughly fifty li, heading almost due east with a slight turn north.
That was not far. An ordinary person could cover it in a day with some effort. Demons had stronger constitutions, and at a full sprint, they would not even need half a day.
But the distance gave both sides enough room to prepare for each other's military moves. Neither the warriors nor the demons were likely to reach the other before their enemy could react and launch a surprise attack.
In fact, according to Dawn's Light's plan, they intended to march only about twenty li today, then make camp thirty li from the Gates of Dikolia.
Thirty li was not a particularly safe distance, but if they slept with weapons at hand, ready for battle at dawn, they had little to fear from a demon sneak attack.
According to the scouts' reports, the Gates of Dikolia was in chaos. The demons had yet to recover from yesterday's crushing defeat. Such a disorderly, evil mob could swarm forward while winning, but after a defeat, it scattered like loose sand. Even a legendary commander of Sun Wu, Han Xin, or Bai Qi's caliber could not hope to whip it back into shape in just two or three
