Was the last expression on the Shadow Demon's featureless face fear or surprise? Pan Long couldn't tell.
Because three sharp arrows were already flying toward him.
The archer was an Arrow Demon with six arms. It stood at least half again as tall as the Arrow Demon he had seen before, with a powerfully built frame. Black mist coiled around the three longbows in its hands; one glance was enough to tell how formidable they were.
It had clearly nocked and drawn its arrows before the darkness dispersed. The darkness that had cut off Pan Long's sight had not affected it at all.
In that hair's breadth before disaster, Pan Long twisted himself into a shape that would have dislocated an ordinary person's bones and sent them to the hospital. All three arrows missed.
Two broad, long polearms came at him next.
The wielders were the two hulking Muscle Demons at the doorway. They came fast, their movements startlingly sharp. They even struck with a sense of coordination—a rare sight among chaotic, evil Demons.
Steel rang against steel in a rapid burst. Pan Long launched himself from that twisted posture and spun through the air. His blade flashed out, severing both polearms in succession, then swept across the two Muscle Demons with the deftness of a painter's brush, cutting them into four pieces.
Before he landed, flames surged toward his face. A Hellfire Demon, clad in a robe of some unknown material that completely covered its burning body, pointed a withered finger at him. Blazes sprang up on every side, surrounding him.
Not far away, a Quasit almost as tall as an ordinary person shrieked and transformed into a giant centipede larger than a human. Its body swiftly turned insubstantial and vanished without a trace. It had clearly cast Invisibility
