Looking at the Nine-Dragon Claw Arm in his hand, Luo Qian found the whole affair increasingly suspicious. Surely I can't keep getting every bargain just because I'm a good person? What connection did the customer Lei Laohu had mentioned have to Daoist Wanwan and Mu Fengming? Why would that person spare no expense to help them both?
He could not work out what lay behind it. He looked at the Nine-Dragon Claw Arm again. Just because he could not spot anything wrong did not mean someone else would not. After a moment's thought, he summoned the Thundercloud Fire Leopard and headed for Phoenix Paulownia Mountain.
There, he ran into another acquaintance: Master Xin Yezi. Luo Qian greeted him delightedly. "Master, you're here too." With a trace of gratitude that was hard to detect, Xin Yezi said, "Thanks to your precision instruments, I've improved several formations. I came to ask Old Zhao to see how well they work."
After Luo Qian explained why he had come, Zhao Xihe examined the Nine-Dragon Claw Arm carefully, then shook his head. "Nothing's wrong with it. No one has tampered with this Magic Treasure." Xin Yezi laughed. "You've had a stroke of tremendous luck, yet you spend all day seeing ghosts in every shadow. Do you want your luck to turn bad from now on?" "Please don't curse me, Master," Luo Qian said quickly. "You're a master—your curses are far too powerful for me to bear." Xin Yezi burst out laughing, and Luo Qian smiled too. Then he suddenly remembered the Illuminated Signboard Xiao Xiangzi had made. "Are you two busy? If not, I'll take you to see something marvelous."
Both men had matters to attend to. And so poor Bi'er wound up carrying all three of them on his back.
