Ch. 241Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Demon, Shall Save Them — Luring the Snake from Its Hole (Part One)

Plot points and events

  • During the mining contest, Luo Qian realizes the Gengluo Lin Family is cheating: several Lin workers mine together while judges look on, and one of Luo Company’s workers has been tied up. Luo refuses to charge in, instead sending Xiao Xiangzi to record evidence.
  • Dongfang Chen, unaware of the cheating, mines alone at remarkable speed, building a large pile of ore.
  • Xiao Xiangzi returns with pursuers and a Recording Jade Talisman. Hua Shiwei recognizes the veiled Second Elder, Hua Yue, and attacks her. Luo secretly swaps the genuine recording talisman for a fake.
  • Hua Yue and her ally turn the tables by summoning the Imperial Constabulary, led by Cao Meng, who accuse Luo Company’s people of rebellion. Hua Yue also orders Hua Shiwei arrested.
  • Luo Qian suspects Cao Meng is connected to the Awakening King. Xu Hu and the Imperial Execution Bureau then reveal themselves, disarm the constables, and arrest Cao Meng and most of his men.
  • Hua Yue’s ally ambushes Xu Hu. The two women combine their power and fight him, while Hua Shiwei tries to stop them. Tian Shun’er pulls Hua Shiwei clear of their attack, and the women use a burst of red light to escape.
  • Luo explains that he had suspected the Awakening King was behind the scheme and arranged for Xu Hu to lie in wait, hoping to expose and capture the forces behind it.

Character developments

  • Luo Qian remains cautious and strategic: he avoids an impulsive confrontation, gathers evidence, anticipates a trap, and coordinates with Xu Hu. His composure persists even when his group is surrounded.
  • Xiao Xiangzi shows loyalty and growing ability. His Soul Cultivation training has made him a capable expert and scout, though he is forced to flee when confronted by powerful pursuers.
  • Hua Shiwei openly reveals her hostility toward Hua Yue and attacks her without hesitation, but her desperation leaves her vulnerable until Tian Shun’er intervenes.
  • Xu Hu arrives with decisive authority and captures Cao Meng, but underestimates Hua Yue’s ally and is briefly driven back by their combined strength.
  • Hua Yue shifts from confident manipulation to shock when her apparent advantage collapses, then escapes with her ally.

Significant themes

  • Power versus justice: Hua Yue claims that “justice” belongs to her in Guxu Realm, while Luo’s side is framed as criminal despite being the target of cheating and violence.
  • Strategy and deception: Both sides use traps, evidence, disguises, and hidden alliances; Luo’s preparation counters Hua Yue’s attempt to control the situation.
  • Institutional corruption and factional conflict: The Imperial Constabulary is used to persecute Luo Company, while the Imperial Execution Bureau acts against Cao Meng’s suspected Awakening King affiliation.
  • Loyalty and risk: Xiao Xiangzi follows Luo’s orders without hesitation, and Hua Shiwei risks herself in confronting her enemy.

Character interactions

  • Luo directs Xiao Xiangzi and his bodyguards, restraining them from a rash attack while protecting their injured worker and arranging to document the Lin Family’s misconduct.
  • Hua Shiwei confronts Hua Yue, revealing a personal enmity that turns the contest into a broader conflict.
  • Hua Yue attempts to have Cao Meng’s constables arrest Luo’s group; Luo instead challenges Cao Meng directly about his connection to the Awakening King.
  • Xu Hu’s arrival transforms the confrontation, but Hua Yue and her ally briefly overpower him through coordinated attacks.
  • Tian Shun’er protects Hua Shiwei from their combined assault, allowing the women to escape.

Ch. 242Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One, but I, the Demon, Shall Save Them — Luring the Snake from Its Hole (Part Two)

Key plot points

  • The Supreme Pure Emperor orders Luo Qian to choose between marrying either of two women or becoming his concubine. Luo refuses to accept the choices and asks for a reward instead.
  • The Emperor claims Luo’s Immortal Jade mine is already sufficient compensation. Luo argues that the mine was his to begin with, leaving the Emperor furious but unable to answer him.
  • Before dismissing Luo, the Emperor reveals that the Li Household plans to marry Li Feier into Prince Feng’s estate. Luo suspects she may be promised to his business rival, the young prince.
  • Back at True Transformation Source, Luo asks Du Lengning to investigate the Li Household and Prince Feng’s estate, and has Ling Xiaose check on Feier. Unsure of his standing with her, he avoids confronting her directly.
  • Luo breaks a Buddha-Realm stone tablet into pieces, planning to trade them separately to the Netherworld for greater profit. On his way there, he slips one fragment into gang boss Chen Baozi’s safe as an unplanned gift; years later, it brings Chen fame and helps him leave crime behind.
  • In the Netherworld, Judge Cui and others are gambling when Luo arrives. He gives Yan Emperor one tablet fragment, proving he can obtain the Spring-Quelling Treasure. Yan Emperor and Judge Cui immediately try to persuade him to stay and provide more.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian remains a shrewd, irreverent merchant who treats even the Jade Emperor as a business partner. Yet his concern about Li Feier’s possible marriage reveals genuine uncertainty and attachment.
  • The Supreme Pure Emperor is exasperated by Luo’s bluntness but privately values his honest, unceremonious manner and does not truly want to punish him.
  • Du Lengning teases Luo about Feier but agrees to investigate when asked.
  • Yan Emperor and Judge Cui shift from doubting Luo to eagerly courting his help once he produces a fragment of the treasure. Their eagerness contrasts with Luo’s calculated reluctance to give them more.

Significant themes

  • Commerce and opportunism: Luo turns favors, rewards, and even sacred artifacts into opportunities for negotiation.
  • Power versus sincerity: Luo’s ignorance of court etiquette lets him speak plainly where other officials would flatter or fear the Emperor.
  • Love and insecurity: Luo’s concern for Feier is tempered by uncertainty about their relationship and his own status as a seemingly stagnant Tribulation Immortal.
  • Unintended consequences: Luo’s casual gesture toward Chen Baozi eventually transforms the gangster’s life and draws wider attention to a Buddhist relic.

Ch. 243Volume Four: The Buddha Saves No One, but I, the Demon, Shall—Buying Back What Was Mine (Part One)

Key plot points and events

  • The Lord Emperor persuades Luo Qian to hear a Netherworld secret before agreeing to help him further. He takes Luo Qian to the Six Paths of Reincarnation, explaining how souls’ choices and accumulated virtue shape their next lives.
  • At the heart of the Six Paths, the Lord Emperor reveals that the route to the Immortal Realm passes through a Refinement Passage containing Xingtian Fire, a powerful treasure kept secret to protect the Netherworld from invasion.
  • Luo Qian promises to keep the secret. Since the Lord Emperor cannot control the fire and forbids him from bringing help, Luo Qian agrees to return alone, receiving a Black Jade Box that can transport him to the passage.
  • In exchange, Luo Qian promises to provide a complete treasure to guard the Netherworld’s springs—but exploits the ambiguous wording. The Lord Emperor expects a complete set of five stone tablets; Luo Qian means one complete tablet.
  • Back at the passage, Luo Qian uses the Xingtian Fire to refine two pairs of gray daggers into purple-gold weapons. Just as he reaches for them, his young Pixiu swallows both pairs. Luo Qian ends the chapter furiously demanding that it spit them out.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian remains opportunistic and contract-minded: he weighs risks against rewards, accepts the secret only after seeing what it entails, and uses careful wording to outmaneuver the Lord Emperor. His excitement at finally forging genuine offensive Immortal Artifacts turns to helpless anger when the Pixiu eats them.
  • The Lord Emperor shows both desperation and cunning. He needs Luo Qian’s help to protect the Netherworld, but carefully limits his access to the Xingtian Fire and pushes him to collect it himself.
  • Judge Cui initially urges the Lord Emperor to offer Luo Qian something valuable, then is excluded from the secret. He no longer follows Luo Qian once the Lord Emperor decides he poses no threat of crossing the boundary.
  • The Pixiu acts mischievously and possessively, swallowing Luo Qian’s newly forged daggers despite their heat, seemingly taunting him.

Significant themes

  • Deals, trust, and wordplay: Cooperation is driven by bargaining, but both sides guard their interests; Luo Qian turns a promise into an advantage through ambiguity.
  • Power and secrecy: The Xingtian Fire is valuable enough to endanger the Netherworld if its location becomes known.
  • Fate and moral consequence: The Six Paths reflect how virtue and wrongdoing influence the possibilities awaiting a soul.
  • Comic frustration amid high stakes: Grand secrets and powerful treasures are repeatedly undercut by Luo Qian’s mercantile scheming and the Pixiu’s antics.

Ch. 244Volume Four: The Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Demon, Shall Save Them — Buying Back What Was Mine (Part Two)

Plot points and events

  • Luo Qian tries to force the Pixiu out of his Nine-Dragon Claw Arm, first with threats, then with an offer of Super Top-Grade Immortal Jade. The Pixiu emerges only when tempted by the jade.
  • Luo Qian reminds it that the Heavenly Seal and his paired daggers are his, but the Pixiu refuses to return them unless he offers something of equal value. His threats prove useless because it can simply hide inside the bracer.
  • Luo Qian proposes letting the Pixiu keep and safeguard his treasures, provided it returns any item immediately when asked. To demonstrate good faith, he gives it his War Chariot; the Pixiu swallows it, then lets him inspect the daggers. Luo Qian entrusts his other treasures to it, freeing space in his Storage Space.
  • The Pixiu returns the Treasure Seals Luo Qian obtained at Soaring Firmament Pavilion. He cannot activate or understand them, so he concludes he will have to ask the Immortal Emperor how they work.
  • Elder Zhao visits and reports that his experiment has failed. Luo Qian offers encouragement and promises to provide fresh materials for another attempt.
  • Learning that Zhao’s Bi’er is female, Luo Qian jokes that Zhao may soon have offspring and might not need his cloning experiment after all.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian shifts from bluster to bargaining when he realizes he cannot control the Pixiu. He reaches a workable arrangement by treating it as both a mischievous companion and a useful guardian of his possessions. His excitement at recovering the Seals is tempered by his inability to use them.
  • The Pixiu is shown to be clever, stubborn, and highly motivated by valuable food. It recognizes when Luo Qian is bluffing, drives a hard bargain, but keeps its word once trust is established.
  • Zhao Xihe is disappointed by his failed experiment but regains enthusiasm after discussing what he learned. Luo Qian acts as a supportive patron, supplying resources and encouraging him to try again.
  • Luo Qian and the Pixiu negotiate a mutually beneficial deal; Luo Qian and Zhao share a more encouraging, collegial exchange, ending with Luo Qian’s teasing remark about Bi’er.

Significant themes

  • Possession and value: Even though Luo Qian owns the treasures, reclaiming them requires negotiation; the Pixiu measures value on its own terms.
  • Trust and compromise: Luo Qian’s successful solution depends on demonstrating good faith rather than relying on threats.
  • Persistence after failure: Zhao’s experiment fails, but the knowledge gained gives him renewed purpose.
  • Comic reversal: Luo Qian’s threats and claims of authority are undercut by the Pixiu’s independence and enormous appetite.

Ch. 245Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Devil, Deliver Them — Pretty-Boy Obsession (Part One)

Plot points and events

  • Luo Qian persuades Zhao Xihe to lend him Bi’er, a powerful Jadewater Qilin, so he can arrange a mate for Strathas, the Beast King. Zhao Xihe teaches Luo Qian to hide Bi’er as a Beast-Sealing Puppet.
  • Luo Qian uses his Summoning Contract to travel to the Broken Range, where he accidentally interrupts Strathas’s sleep and is flung away by the Beast King’s roar. The Torch Dragon Lamp protects him.
  • Luo Qian presents Bi’er as a potential mate. Bi’er instinctively challenges the much stronger Strathas, while Strathas angrily rejects the arrangement.
  • The misunderstanding is clarified: Strathas is female and is seeking a male mate. Luo Qian sends Bi’er back after bribing him with Immortal Pills.
  • Hoping to recover his costs, Luo Qian persuades Strathas to compensate him and offers candid advice on improving her chances of finding a mate.

Character developments

  • Luo Qian is opportunistic and irreverent, but also resourceful and bold enough to speak plainly to a dangerous, ancient ruler. His confidence briefly outruns his caution.
  • Strathas shifts from furious and imposing to embarrassed and receptive. Her pride remains intact, but Luo Qian’s blunt assessment makes her consider practical changes.
  • Bi’er is innocent and easily tempted by treats; his territorial instincts take over when he encounters Strathas.
  • Zhao Xihe is trusting but exasperated by Luo Qian’s schemes and Bi’er’s enthusiasm for Immortal Pills.

Significant themes

  • Pride versus self-awareness: Strathas’s grand self-image clashes with the practical obstacles to finding a mate.
  • Cultural and social acceptance: Luo Qian argues that location, appearance, and broader beastfolk culture affect romantic prospects.
  • Commerce and persuasion: Luo Qian treats matchmaking as a costly service and skillfully turns a failed arrangement into a chance for compensation.
  • Comedy through misunderstanding: The encounter’s conflict rests on Luo Qian assuming Strathas is male and failing to recognize her sex.

Character interactions

  • Luo Qian bargains with Zhao Xihe for Bi’er’s help, then lures Bi’er along with the promise of treats.
  • Bi’er and Strathas meet with mutual hostility, requiring Luo Qian to soothe Bi’er and negotiate with Strathas.
  • Luo Qian and Strathas trade insults and boasts before he bluntly lists her disadvantages and recommends relocating, improving her image, and hiring a groomer.

Ch. 246Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Demon, Shall Save Them — The Shotacon (Part Two)

Plot points

  • Strathas refuses Luo Qian’s suggestion that she leave her territory, but asks him to find promising young male beasts she could raise as mates.
  • She reveals that she has been targeting the two young dragons hidden in Luo Qian’s Nine-Dragon Claw Arm. She wants them to absorb Source Power, which could accelerate their growth.
  • Strathas explains that the eight realms are arranged in two tiers of four parallel realms. Source Power helps maintain the realms’ energy balances and can greatly benefit cultivators, though absorbing too much could destabilize the Divine and Demon Realms.
  • She takes Luo Qian and the dragons to a chaotic realm containing Source Power, teaches Luo Qian how beasts can absorb it, and has him pass the method on to the dragons.
  • Luo Qian secretly detects a trace of Source Power entering his own body and flowing into his mysterious Immortal Vein. He resolves to investigate whether the heart of the Six Paths of Reincarnation also contains Source Power.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian remains outwardly cooperative while distrusting Strathas’s intentions toward the dragons. Despite his moral qualms, he agrees to the process because it could strengthen them—and benefit him. His discovery of Source Power’s effect on his Immortal Vein gives him a new personal ambition.
  • Strathas is revealed as a powerful but possessive creature with an unsettling attraction to young male beasts. She is patient while instructing Luo Qian, yet keeps control of the situation and insists he not learn the balance point’s location.
  • Luo Qian and Strathas negotiate uneasily: he challenges her motives internally but accepts her offer, while she uses her knowledge and the promise of benefits to secure his cooperation.
  • The two young dragons are brought out and taught to absorb Source Power, though their thoughts and reactions are not described.

Significant themes

  • Power and ambition: Source Power offers extraordinary potential, tempting Luo Qian to accept risks he might otherwise reject.
  • Secrecy and unequal knowledge: Strathas limits what Luo Qian can learn, while he conceals his own discovery from her.
  • Self-interest versus responsibility: Both characters weigh personal desires against the possible consequences for the realms and the dragons.

Ch. 247The Fourth Volume: Buddha Saves No One, Only I, the Demon, Will Save Them — The First Night (Part One)

Plot points

  • Bixi and Pixiu absorb some of the realm’s Source Power under Strathas’s supervision. It accelerates their growth and greatly strengthens their dragon energy.
  • Before leaving, Luo Qian demands compensation for letting the young dragons keep Strathas company. He first receives a Bronze Cauldron, then presses for more, arguing that one gift cannot pay for both dragons.
  • Strathas gives him a Behemoth Heart, a rare treasure said to improve potions and Magic Devices by two levels.
  • Luo Qian then refuses to leave, claiming his protective treasures are inside the dragons. Strathas seals him in a cramped, soundproof box for the night.
  • The ground shakes through the night as Strathas and the two dragons are together. Luo Qian sleeps poorly, then dozes off after the activity subsides.
  • In the morning, Strathas releases him and insists that he return to keep her company once a week.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian acts as the dragons’ protective, calculating “madam,” bargaining aggressively on their behalf while privately treating the arrangement as a chance to gain valuable treasures. His greed and self-interest repeatedly override his momentary guilt.
  • Strathas remains proud and domineering, but her desire for the dragons makes her yield to Luo Qian’s demands. She later reasserts control by imprisoning him for the night and setting a weekly expectation.
  • Bixi and Pixiu grow visibly larger and more powerful after absorbing the Source Power. Their bond with Strathas is central to the bargain, though the passage gives little insight into their own feelings.
  • Luo Qian and Strathas trade insults and threats, each trying to control the situation: he uses the dragons as leverage, while she uses her authority and strength.

Significant themes

  • Greed and negotiation: Luo Qian turns companionship into a transaction and keeps demanding payment, while Strathas’s appetite makes her vulnerable to his bargaining.
  • Power and leverage: Strength alone does not decide the exchange; Luo Qian’s control over the dragons gives him bargaining power against the Beast King.
  • Self-interest versus responsibility: Luo Qian frames his demands as protecting his “children,” but his focus on profit—and his dismissal of concerns about their first experience—undercuts that claim.
  • Comic irreverence: The chapter treats an immense, potentially dangerous encounter with bawdy humor, exaggeration, and Luo Qian’s cynical inner commentary.

Ch. 248Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One, but I, the Demon, Shall — First Night (Part Two)

Plot points and events

  • Luo Qian returns to the Immortal Realm and joins Xiao Xiangzi, Ling Xiaose, and Dongfang Chen in planning a wedding gift for Du Lengning and Li Xuexiao. After rejecting showy ideas like an Immortal Jade road, they settle on an extravagant, risqué “sex bed.”
  • Ling Xiaose tells Luo Qian that his cousin Li Feier is also facing a marriage alliance: the Li Household has offered Treasure Chamber Cave as her dowry to secure a match with Prince Meng’s estate. Feier has been locked up for months and is reportedly smashing things. Her brother’s recent promotion has strengthened the Li Household’s influence, but its motives remain unclear.
  • Dongfang Chen reveals that Feng Zilei tried to recruit him to the Official Trading Bureau for a large salary. He suspects Feng is either preparing to challenge Luo Company or building a team for a major project. Luo Qian orders plans for raises and employment contracts to help retain key staff.
  • Luo Qian privately resents Feng Zilei, believing he stole Luo Company’s trade secrets and is now poaching his people. He begins considering a longer-term response.
  • In the Mortal Realm, Luo Qian buys a bright red, multifunctional electric sex bed for Du Lengning’s wedding gift. He is embarrassed by the attention he attracts while purchasing it.
  • As Luo Qian studies the bed’s instructions, Du Lengning arrives in a grave mood and summons him to the Secret Chamber, setting up an urgent conversation.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian juggles business threats and personal obligations, responding strategically to Feng Zilei while remaining preoccupied with Li Feier and the two weddings. His elaborate gift for Du Lengning also reveals his mischievous, crude humor.
  • Ling Xiaose shares troubling information about Li Feier’s forced marriage prospects and confinement. Dongfang Chen proves loyal to Luo Qian by reporting Feng Zilei’s approach rather than accepting the job.
  • Xiao Xiangzi and Dongfang Chen enthusiastically help turn the wedding-gift discussion into a joke, while Ling Xiaose unexpectedly proposes the sex bed.
  • Luo Qian’s hostility toward Feng Zilei may be partly based on a misunderstanding: Feng does not view his earlier conduct as the deliberate theft Luo Qian believes it to be.
  • Du Lengning, absent from the gift-planning discussion, reappears with an unexplained serious concern.

Significant themes

  • Loyalty and competition: Feng Zilei’s recruitment attempt prompts Luo Qian to protect his company and reward staff.
  • Marriage and power: The Li Household’s costly alliance with Prince Meng’s estate suggests that marriage is being used to advance political influence.
  • Humor amid uncertainty: Crude jokes and comic gift planning contrast with the serious questions surrounding Li Feier’s confinement, the Li Household’s ambitions, and Feng Zilei’s plans.

Ch. 249Volume Four: The Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Demon, Shall Save Them — Stealing a Kiss (Part One)

Plot points and events

  • Luo Qian teases Du Lengning about his lack of romantic experience, then learns Li Xuexiao is already demanding that he return as their wedding approaches.
  • Li Feier, confined at her family’s estate and furious about a marriage arranged for her, stages an elaborate protest: a hidden recording repeats her complaints while she digs a secret escape tunnel.
  • Hoping to reach her, Luo Qian recognizes he cannot infiltrate the powerful Li estate alone. He first visits Six Suchness Cave, where Hua Shiwei and Tian Shun’er’s growing closeness becomes apparent.
  • Luo Qian tries to draw Tian Shun’er away, but finds him leaving Hua Shiwei’s estate. Hua calls Tian her “little brother,” and Luo abandons his matchmaking hints. He takes Tian along to help rescue Li Feier.
  • Their attempt fails: Li Feier’s father detects Luo Qian and sends him crashing into the tunnel. Li Feier realizes that his arrival has exposed her escape plan and worsened her predicament.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian is resourceful and meddlesome, but his confidence as a matchmaker is tempered by Hua Shiwei’s firm boundaries. He is also willing to risk an infiltration to help Li Feier, though he underestimates the Li family’s security.
  • Du Lengning is anxious and inexperienced about marriage, while Li Xuexiao’s urgent call reveals her impatience and forceful personality.
  • Li Feier shows defiance, ingenuity, and physical strength despite having her powers sealed. Her escape scheme demonstrates how determined she is to resist the marriage.
  • Hua Shiwei and Tian Shun’er share increasing warmth: she accepts him as a younger brother, and he eagerly responds. Luo Qian hopes their bond might deepen, but Hua shuts down his romantic assumptions.
  • Luo Qian and Li Feier are allies, though his rescue attempt inadvertently sabotages her carefully prepared escape.

Significant themes

  • Autonomy versus family obligation: Li Feier resists a marriage imposed by her family, while Du Lengning faces the pressures of his upcoming wedding.
  • Love, grief, and companionship: Hua Shiwei’s burdens and Tian Shun’er’s affection suggest the possibility of comfort after loss, though their relationship remains uncertain.
  • Comedy amid danger: Luo Qian’s teasing, matchmaking, and botched rescue contrast with the serious restrictions and power struggles surrounding the characters.
  • Appearance and power: The Li estate’s wealth and security reflect the clan’s rising influence—and make even a simple rescue difficult.

Ch. 250Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One, Only I, the Demon, Deliver Them — Stealing a Kiss (Part Two)

Key plot points and events

  • Luo Qian and Tian Shun’er are discovered while trying to reach Li Feier’s secret passage. Rather than risk fighting the Li Household’s guards, Luo surrenders.
  • Li Feier has already escaped into the passage, but Luo is forced to blast through the ground to collapse it. Her brother, Li Tang, retrieves her and seals her powers.
  • Li Tang binds Luo and Li Feier together with a single Immortal-Binding Rope, leaving them unable to separate. He then leaves them alone to reflect.
  • Their close confinement leads to mutual embarrassment and escalating physical awkwardness. Luo’s involuntary reaction frightens Li Feier; a brief burst of energy from someone outside causes it to subside, but she mistakenly believes he has urinated on her.

Character developments

  • Luo Qian is attracted to Li Feier and, despite his embarrassment, openly appreciates her. He tries to avoid taking advantage of her but cannot control the situation—or his body.
  • Li Feier remains defiant toward her brother, yet her sheltered, vulnerable side emerges when she is trapped in intimate proximity to Luo. She is especially sensitive to the shame of being seen disheveled.
  • Li Tang demonstrates firm control over his younger sister and uses the binding rope to punish—and apparently tease—the pair.

Character interactions

  • Li Tang’s authority clashes with Li Feier’s stubbornness as he removes her from the passage and binds her to Luo.
  • Luo and Li Feier move from their usual teasing and squabbling toward an awkward, unexpectedly tender moment: his compliment that she looks lovely surprises and pleases her.
  • Their forced closeness quickly becomes uncomfortable, leaving Li Feier frightened and Luo apologetic but helpless.

Significant themes

  • Control versus independence: Li Feier’s escape attempt is thwarted by her brother’s authority and the household’s defenses.
  • Forced intimacy and embarrassment: The binding rope turns emotional attraction into a comic but distressing physical predicament.
  • Vulnerability beneath bravado: Both characters’ reactions reveal more than their usual banter does—Li Feier’s innocence and Luo’s genuine concern.

Ch. 251Volume Four: The Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Demon, Shall Save Them — An Unexplained Entanglement (Part One)

Plot points and events

  • Li Feier’s father, Li Boda, catches her and Luo Qian together. Convinced Luo Qian has compromised her honor, he orders Feier out and prepares to kill him.
  • Boda seals Luo Qian’s access to his Magic Treasures and attacks with Fire Phoenix Nirvana. Feier intervenes, first pleading and then threatening to die if her father kills Luo Qian. She also finally declares that she refuses to marry Feng Zilei.
  • Boda stops the attack and offers Luo Qian a stark choice: marry Feier and take responsibility, or die. He gives Luo Qian three days to decide, keeping him in the Li Household’s dungeon meanwhile.
  • Elsewhere, Ling Xiaose tells Xiao Xiangzi that Luo Qian has been detained and pressured to marry Feier. Xiao jokes that Luo Qian would welcome the match and encourages Ling to intervene. Ling refuses, apparently wary of Pei Sefei. Xiao then discovers Pei standing behind him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Feier moves from embarrassment to open defiance, revealing how deeply she resents the arranged marriage. Despite her anger at Luo Qian, she risks herself to protect him.
  • Li Boda is domineering and initially treats killing Luo Qian as a matter of family honor and political obligation. Feier’s desperation makes him reconsider; he shifts from execution to forcing a marriage as a way to resolve the broken engagement.
  • Luo Qian remains trapped between self-preservation and concern for Feier. He considers accepting the marriage, but thoughts of other women—Pei Sefei, Xie Tang, and Zhu Ke’er—make him hesitate. His awkward remarks also repeatedly aggravate Feier.
  • Xiao Xiangzi treats the situation as comic and assumes Luo Qian wants to marry Feier. Ling Xiaose is more cautious and avoids getting involved.
  • The closing reveal of Pei Sefei behind Xiao creates comic tension, especially after Xiao has joked about her and her master’s feared reputation.

Significant themes

  • Agency versus family authority: Feier openly resists her father’s power and the marriage arranged for her.
  • Honor, obligation, and coercion: Boda frames marriage as a way to repair Feier’s honor and settle the Li Household’s political obligations, but gives Luo Qian little real freedom.
  • Romantic entanglement: Luo Qian’s attraction to Feier clashes with his ties and feelings toward other women, leaving him unable to make an immediate choice.
  • Comic contrast: A potentially deadly confrontation is undercut by Luo Qian’s irreverent thoughts and the joking subplot among his companions.

Ch. 252Volume Four: The Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Demon, Shall Save Them — Unexplained (Part Two)

Key plot points and events

  • The Supreme Pure Emperor learns that Luo Qian has been captured by the Li Household. He worries that helping him could set his niece, Ke’er, against the Eldest Princess, but ultimately orders Xu Hu to “be careful”—an indirect move to intervene.
  • Pei Sefei, anxious for Luo Qian, travels to the Li Household with her master, Feng Feitian, and Zhao Xihe. Feng insists that Pei and Luo were pledged to each other first; Li Boda refuses to release Luo without protecting his daughter Li Feier’s reputation.
  • The negotiations are interrupted by the Old Roughworker and Xin Yezi, who arrive with missile-launch vehicles and threaten to destroy the household.
  • An Imperial Execution Bureau force arrives with an imperial decree demanding Luo’s release on pain of treason. Li Boda collapses, and the household falls into confusion.
  • When the elders go to fetch Luo, they discover that he and Li Feier have vanished from their shared cell. Xu Hu suspects the Li Household is concealing what happened.

Character developments and interactions

  • Pei Sefei shows how deeply she cares for Luo, fearing both his betrayal and the consequences of his imprisonment. Feng Feitian’s protectiveness turns that personal concern into a confrontational rescue effort.
  • Feng Feitian is fiercely loyal to her disciple but blunt and politically imprudent. Zhao Xihe acts as the measured negotiator, trying to preserve face and avoid a fight.
  • Li Boda attempts to defend his household’s standing and his daughter’s reputation, but the arrival of multiple powerful allies and the emperor’s decree leaves him overwhelmed.
  • The Old Roughworker uses his inventions to intimidate the Li Household, demonstrating his explosive temper and loyalty to Luo.
  • Xu Hu carries out the emperor’s order with formidable authority. Li Tang, meanwhile, quietly prepares powerful treasures, hinting at hidden intentions.
  • The emperor’s concern for Luo is complicated by family rivalries: Luo’s ties to the Eldest Princess, Ke’er, and Pei make his rescue politically sensitive.

Significant themes

  • Personal loyalty versus political power: Luo’s relationships draw support from influential figures and imperial authority.
  • Reputation and coercion: Li Boda frames the dispute around his daughter’s standing, while the rescuers challenge the household’s attempt to control Luo’s choice.
  • Escalation and unintended consequences: A marriage dispute rapidly grows into a confrontation involving weapons, Heaven Ranking experts, and the Imperial Execution Bureau.
  • Hidden motives and uncertainty: Li Tang’s concealed preparations and Luo and Li Feier’s unexplained disappearance leave the outcome unresolved.

Ch. 253Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One, but I, the Demon, Shall — Shrieks and Laughter (Part One)

Summary

  • Luo Qian and Li Feier remain imprisoned in the Li Household dungeon, where Li Boda’s spell prevents them from using Immortal-realm magic and treasures. They bicker about whether they might eventually marry: Feier says she might “make do” with Luo Qian if she finds no one better, but bluntly calls him boring. Their teasing turns into a brief struggle, complicated by an incense outside the cell that stirs desire. Feier bites Luo Qian to make him get off her.
  • Luo Qian escapes with Feier by using a power beyond the spell’s reach, then takes her to meet Strathas, the enormous Nine-Headed Demon Dragon. Feier is frightened at first, but quickly warms to Strathas. Strathas jokes that Luo Qian is her pet; Feier then suggests that Strathas is his pet. The two discover they share an interest in “training” Luo Qian as a pet and become instant allies. Strathas tries to transform into a less intimidating human form, but her nine heads cannot coordinate, leaving her with nine heads and eighteen arms.
  • Back at the Li estate, Feier and Luo Qian’s disappearance throws the household into chaos. Li Boda is revived to answer questions, but, devastated by his daughter’s disappearance, he faints again. The elders frantically attempt to revive him, leaving the household without effective leadership. Xu Hu worries about how to report the situation, while Old Roughworker wants to bombard the estate in revenge. Xin Yezi quietly supplies him with detonators, apparently eyeing the estate’s resources for himself. Feng Feitian’s group declines to exploit the disorder.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian and Li Feier continue their teasing, combative rapport. Feier reveals that she considers Luo Qian acceptable as a last resort, but not exciting; beneath the joking, their forced proximity and the incense briefly create an awkwardly intimate moment. Their dynamic remains playful rather than openly romantic.
  • Li Feier and Strathas form a quick, comic alliance over their shared wish to boss Luo Qian around. Feier’s curiosity and boldness rapidly overcome her initial fear of the demon dragon.
  • Strathas is introduced as fearsome in appearance but playful and vain, readily joining the pair’s banter.
  • Li Boda’s intense devotion to Feier is underscored by his collapse when she vanishes, while the Li Household’s crisis exposes rival opportunism among its visitors.

Significant themes

  • Comedy through reversal and misinterpretation: marriage talk, biting, “pet” jokes, and Strathas’s botched transformation repeatedly overturn expectations.
  • Power and vulnerability: the spell temporarily strips Luo Qian and Feier of their usual abilities, forcing them to rely on ingenuity—and, at times, each other.
  • Attachment and control: Feier and Strathas’s playful competition to claim Luo Qian as a pet turns affection into a comic struggle for dominance.
  • Chaos and self-interest: while Li Boda’s family panics, others see the crisis as an opportunity, highlighting the tension between loyalty and opportunism.

Ch. 254Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One; Only I, the Demon, Save Them — Shrieks and Laughter (Part Two)

Key plot points and events

  • Luo Qian watches Li Feier and Strathas become close, including Li Feier persuading the nine-headed demon to swear sisterhood with her over a comic argument about whether dirt can be incense.
  • Suspecting that Li Tang may be behind the trouble surrounding him, Luo Qian decides to use Strathas to frighten or punish him. He buys a laptop and a collection of provocative implements in the Lower Realm, then gives them to Strathas as a “gift.”
  • Returning to Tianxia Source, Luo Qian finds a crowd confronting the Li Household. He persuades Xu Hu to disperse everyone by invoking an urgent matter involving the Emperor’s plan for the Western Divine Realm.
  • Li Tang confronts Luo Qian about his missing sister. Luo Qian takes him aside, and Strathas’s power abruptly transports them both to her realm.
  • Strathas enthusiastically welcomes Li Tang, while Luo Qian immediately tries to negotiate payment for delivering him.

  • Strathas shows a playful, easily influenced side with Li Feier, but becomes intensely absorbed by Luo Qian’s gift. Her excitement makes her a comic but formidable presence.
  • Li Feier demonstrates confidence and a knack for charming Strathas, though Luo Qian still views her as potentially being used as bait in a larger plot.
  • Li Tang remains proud and demanding, but loses control of events when Luo Qian delivers him to Strathas.
  • Xu Hu prioritizes order and the larger mission, using his authority to clear the crowd despite Luo Qian’s less forceful intention.

Significant themes

  • Manipulation and opportunism: Luo Qian turns suspicion, gifts, and other people’s authority to serve his own plans.
  • Power and leverage: Strength, status, and supernatural ability shape the characters’ dealings, but Luo Qian relies on cunning rather than force.
  • Comic contrast: Mundane objects and Lower Realm products are presented as startling novelties in the divine realm, while Strathas’s immense power is paired with childlike enthusiasm.
  • Deception and uncertain motives: Luo Qian suspects a scheme involving the Li family, but the chapter leaves the true source of the plot unresolved.

Ch. 255Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One, So I, the Demon, Shall—Ancient Cave (Part One)

Plot points and events

  • Luo Qian bargains with Strathas for Li Tang, trading him for seven mysterious Rainbow Gems and a staff Strathas calls a half-Divine Artifact.
  • Strathas easily overpowers Li Tang, strips and binds him, and prepares to torment him. Luo Qian secretly watches through a water-mirror spell, but Strathas discovers it and destroys the mirror.
  • Feng Feitian, who has witnessed Luo Qian’s actions, captures him with a sealing spell and takes him to a hidden cavern containing the Flying Heaven Gate’s ancestral spirit tablets. She intends to imprison him there for generations, partly because her disciple Fei’er loves him and Feng wants her to forget him and marry someone else.
  • Luo Qian’s insults provoke Feng Feitian. He attacks her physically, and the two struggle until she unleashes the deadly Five-Cloud Divine Thunder. The blast nearly kills them both.
  • A trace of Source Power awakens in Luo Qian’s mysterious Immortal Veins, restoring him after the explosion. Feng Feitian is badly injured and cannot readily defend herself. Luo Qian examines her face for a mask, embarrassing her and intensifying their hostility.

Character developments

  • Luo Qian remains calculating and shameless, but his usual confidence gives way to genuine fear when Feng Feitian restrains him. In desperation, he relies on street-fighting tactics and verbal provocation. His unexplained survival reveals that the Source Power in his Immortal Veins can restore him from apparent death, though he suspects it may not work again.
  • Feng Feitian is revealed as a powerful but vindictive and controlling figure. Her protectiveness toward Fei’er becomes an excuse to imprison Luo Qian and dictate Fei’er’s future. Her fury and fear surface when Luo Qian attacks and insults her.
  • Li Tang proves dramatically outmatched despite his rank and confidence. His defensive magic fails against Strathas, leaving him helpless.

Significant themes

Ch. 256Volume Four: Buddha Saves No One, but I, the Demon, Shall—The Ancient Cave (Part Two)

Plot points and events

  • Feng Feitian traps Luo Qian in the Flying Heaven Gate’s ancestral cave, an independent space he cannot escape. She plans to mutilate him and imprison him for life, while arranging for her disciple Fei’er to marry someone else.
  • Luo Qian provokes Feng Feitian with insults about her appearance and loneliness. When she attacks him, he fights back at close quarters, using her body as a shield against her spells.
  • Feng Feitian eventually unleashes the powerful Five-Cloud Divine Thunder, willing to risk injuring herself to kill him. Luo Qian’s body begins to dissolve, but a wisp of Source Power enters his mysterious Immortal Vein and restores him to life.
  • Feng Feitian is badly injured and unable to cast further spells. Luo Qian pretends that he cannot be killed, then confronts her and searches her face for a mask. Finding none, he realizes she is genuinely disfigured. She demands that he kill her rather than continue humiliating her.

Character developments

  • Luo Qian shifts from wary negotiation to desperate resistance, relying on insults, street-fighting tactics, and bluffing to survive. His apparent revival gives him leverage, though he knows it may not protect him from another attack.
  • Feng Feitian is revealed as cruel and vindictive, but also deeply sensitive about her appearance and lack of romantic experience. Her fury makes her reckless, and she suffers serious injuries from her own ultimate spell.

Character interactions

  • Feng Feitian threatens Luo Qian with a grotesque punishment and taunts him with the prospect of watching Fei’er marry another man.
  • Luo Qian retaliates by mocking Feng Feitian’s looks and loneliness, escalating their conflict into a physical struggle.
  • Their fight becomes a contest of endurance: Luo Qian uses proximity to hinder her spells, while Feng Feitian eventually accepts the risk of hurting herself to strike him.
  • After his revival, Luo Qian turns the tables through intimidation and invasive questioning, leaving Feng Feitian humiliated and enraged.

Significant themes

  • Survival through improvisation: Luo Qian’s cunning and willingness to exploit any opening matter as much as strength.
  • Power and vulnerability: Feng Feitian’s formidable status cannot shield her from physical injury or emotional insecurity.
  • Cruelty and humiliation: Both characters use words and bodily force to hurt one another, blurring the line between self-defense and degradation.
  • The uncertain limits of death: Luo Qian’s revival depends on a mysterious reserve of Source Power, which appears to have been consumed or depleted.
The closing author’s note says that cross-realm smuggling and trade remain the novel’s main storyline, alongside other plotlines; the author also discusses their preference for multiple romantic relationships over strict monogamy.

Significant themes

  • Self-interest and compassion coexist: Luo Qian’s decent actions are tangled with teasing, pride, and ulterior motives.
  • Loyalty and protection: Feng Feitian’s refusal to free Luo Qian—and Luo Qian’s decision to save her—are both shaped by their care for Pei Sefei.
  • Appearance versus intention: Luo Qian presents the pill as a thoughtful gift, while privately viewing it as a way to hasten Feng Feitian’s death.

Character interactions

  • Luo Qian and Feng Feitian trade threats and insults, with the ancestral memorials becoming the leverage that breaks the stalemate.
  • Their antagonistic exchange continues after he saves her: his false story about a mouth-to-mouth dose sparks her attack, while his sincere explanation briefly eases the tension.
  • Luo Qian’s gift appears to build goodwill, but the gap between Feng Feitian’s interpretation and his real motive preserves their underlying conflict.

Key plot points and events

  • Pei Sefei shows affection and gratitude toward Luo Qian, briefly setting aside her earlier concern about his unexplained departure.

  • Li Tang’s revelations connect his past actions—and the Tianxia Source disaster—to Awakening King’s ambitions, deepening Luo Qian’s distrust of the rebellion’s leader.

  • At the Six Paths of Reincarnation, Luo Qian absorbs Source Power, hoping it will strengthen his body and support his claim that he is an Undying Bird. He takes too much: the opening in the seal widens, Xingtian Fire pours out, and the seal begins to loosen. Luo Qian flees, leaving the stone slab behind. The Lord Emperor arrives afterward and partially closes the opening, unaware of Luo Qian’s role.
  • Luo Qian collects Vengeful Souls and visits the Buddha Realm. Master Xuqing admits their secret trade has drawn attention from the Buddha Ancestor. Hoping to preserve their profitable arrangement, he offers Luo Qian a gift: a silver-white metal cover covered in tiny Sanskrit characters.

Character developments and interactions

  • Luo Qian remains opportunistic and self-interested: he acts as a double agent, conceals his true motives, and greedily absorbs Source Power despite the danger.

  • A novice monk leads Luo Qian to Master Xuwang and a group of monks seeking Vengeful Souls. When Luo Qian explains that they are scarce, Xuwang offers another way to earn merit: installing Buddha statues in other realms. Luo Qian accepts the opportunity for payment and leaves with a jade pendant that lets him contact the monks.
  • After Luo Qian departs, Xuwang suggests that the monks might cross the Six Suchness Wasteland themselves, despite the Buddha Ancestor’s prohibition. The others are wary, and the group disperses without deciding what to do.
  • Concerned about the unresolved rivalry between Pei Sefei and Li Feier at home, Luo Qian delays returning and visits the Western Divine Realm.
