Horus, Geb, Isis, Set, Nyarlathotep, the Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Jade Emperor, the Star of Literary Brilliance, the Weaver Girl, the Thunder Duke... Jiang Hao silently repeated the all-too-familiar names Ioulaum had spoken. His emotions were such a jumble that he could not tell what he felt.

No, they might not be fellow travelers at all. Maybe they came to Blue Star from another universe, displayed their power there, drew the worship of its ancient peoples, left their traces behind, and then moved on to the next universe.
That would explain why the ancient Egyptians lost their kingdom and vanished as a people. It would explain how Christianity spread across the globe, and why no person—or god—came along to club me over the head when I impersonated those gods. The shadow in Jiang Hao's heart lifted a little.
He gathered his thoughts and asked,
"Do you know what rank Horus, Geb, Isis, Set, Nyarlathotep, the Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Jade Emperor, the Star of Literary Brilliance, the Weaver Girl, and the Thunder Duke held?"
What rank? Why would His Highness ask that? Ioulaum paused, then thought it over. "Judging by what I've described, Geb, Isis, and the Weaver Girl had Lesser Divine Power; Horus, the Star of Literary Brilliance, and the Thunder Duke had Intermediate Divine Power; Set and the Classic of Mountains and Seas had Greater Divine Power; and Nyarlathotep and the Jade Emperor likely had Supreme Divine Power."
*Good. Aside from Nyarlathotep, none of them pose much of a threat to me. I
