On the Abyssal Blood War Battlefield, at the Blood Rift.
Across the land stained crimson to its last inch, demons poured in from every Plane of the Abyss, a frenzied tide.
Unlike other Planes, which existed as relatively independent realms, the Planes of the Bottomless Abyss were more like layers of a single Plane.
Every layer was closely connected to the others. Even demons with no talent for teleportation could travel between them through the many spatial passages scattered across the Abyss.
So after the demons of the Abyss defeated the devils of Underworld and seized the Blood Rift, countless more came from other layers, intending to use it to reach the Multiverse's other Planes.
"Have these demons all gone mad?" The greatswordsman in purple leather armor, a massive sword strapped to his back, stared at the black tide of demons. Awe had crept into his voice.
A thin, middle-aged man in dark leather armor, bow in hand, glanced at his companion and said,
"We should leave. This is no place to hunt demons anymore."
In a tide like that, they would be the ones hunted.
The greatswordsman hesitated. For a hunting party without a powerful Mage among its members, every trip into the Abyss came at a steep cost. If they failed to bring back enough to cover it, a few more trips would be enough to disband the group.
As he considered it, a Dwarf carrying a hammer cut in. "Could we disguise ourselves as demons?"
Disguised as demons, they could hunt from the shadows.
They might even take home more than usual. It was rare for demons to gather on such a scale in one layer.
