| Name | Evil God (邪神) |
| Occupation/Role | A designation applied to evil-aligned gods in the Otherworld and to dangerous Cthulhu entities on Blue Star; it does not identify a single being 171 421. |
Classification
- Otherworld: Evil is one of the nine alignments. Evil gods are fewer than neutral or good gods, and their churches face suppression by both good and neutral churches 86 171.
- Blue Star: “Evil God” is also used for Cthulhu beings such as Cthulhu Fhtagn and Hastur. Their nature or identity is not always certain when they first appear 105 225 409 410.
- Not an interchangeable label: A False God is a being that has not attained True Godhood; the term does not, by itself, establish that being as an Evil God 1 305.
Background / History
Otherworld’s evil gods have been under pressure since the Second Era. Their churches were suppressed on the Main Plane, and good gods drove their Divine Kingdoms toward the Bottomless Abyss, where they relied on Demon Lords for resistance. Even during the Fourth Era, when evil gods were especially active, good gods shattered several of their kingdoms 171.
Dark Sun Cyric exemplifies both their strength and their rivalries. Once a Divine Rank 18 Evil God, he declared himself the only True God and made enemies of good, neutral, and evil deities alike. Several gods brought him down; he later returned 172. The God of Knowledge also became an Evil God after falling into corruption and subsequently gained the Authority of Omniscience 82 133.
On Blue Star, appearances attributed to Evil Gods bring a different kind of crisis. Cthulhu Fhtagn’s presence prompted an evacuation in Saitama Prefecture, while people facing Hastur in Han City risked being drawn into worship and self-harm. Authorities later identified several awakened beings as Evil Gods whose influence corrupted humans into cult worshippers and grotesque creatures 107 225 421.
Abilities & Threats
Divine power
- Otherworld evil gods are not equal in rank or fighting ability: Cyric reached Divine Rank 18, while Spider Lady rivaled gods of Greater Divine Power despite possessing only Intermediate Divine Power 172 525.
- Individual Authorities can make a god dangerous beyond a simple rank comparison. The corrupted God of Knowledge’s acquisition of Omniscience prompted Jiang Hao to estimate that he might have reached Divine Rank 19 133.
Corruption
- Evil Gods can affect minds, bodies, and belief, but the effect varies by being. Cthulhu Fhtagn’s scream caused hallucinations and a sense of corruption; looking directly at Hastur could bring a person under his control 117 225.
- Contact with unknown knowledge associated with Evil Gods can transform people. On Blue Star, Americans use “Child of the Evil God” for someone changed after such contact 104.
- Corruption is not limited to Cthulhu beings: people exposed to knowledge linked to the corrupted God of Knowledge became abominations 133.
Relations with Other Factions
- Good and neutral gods — Opponents of Otherworld’s evil gods; their churches suppress evil-god worship, and good gods have attacked evil gods’ Divine Kingdoms 171.
- Demon Lords — Their power in the Bottomless Abyss has helped evil gods resist pressure from the good gods 171.
- Elder Evils — Distinct beings that evil gods have sometimes helped unleash against the Sevenfold Heavenly Mountain 531.
- Gods allied with the Fate Sovereign — Good-god churches branded these gods “Evil Gods” during their campaign against them; the accusation was part of that conflict, not proof of their alignment 544.
