After hearing Asmodeus out, Jiang Hao's first instinct was to count them. Then he stopped himself. For one thing, Asmodeus might be lying. He was a devil, and devils excelled at lies. They liked to offer stories that were nine parts truth and one part falsehood. Anyone who believed them wholesale was asking for trouble—if it didn't kill them, it would strip them bare. For another, Jiang Hao suspected Asmodeus had laid a trap somewhere he couldn't detect, one he would step into the moment curiosity got the better of him.
A strange look entered Asmodeus's scarlet eyes.
"But they underestimated how difficult it was to create a universe. After forming the rudiments of the Multiverse, the Good and Evil Twin Serpents discovered they had exhausted their power. Realizing this, they swiftly parted. The Good Snake rushed to the highest point of the fledgling universe, while the Evil Serpent rushed to its lowest point. There, both fell into Sleep."
"Curiously, after they fell asleep, the energy and matter drawn to them gradually gathered into two Planes at opposite extremes: the Sevenfold Heavenly Mountain and the Nine Hells."
