He spotted a man emerging from a low house and walked over with a smile.

"Hello, Mr. Cheldan. We meet again."

Cheldan froze at the sound of Jiang Hao's voice. Several seconds passed before he spoke.

"Did you sleep outside my house last night?"

"It's cleaner around here," Jiang Hao said with an easy smile. "Thank you for your help. I'm planning to leave for a day or two, so I wanted to say goodbye before I go. Could I also hire you as my guide? I'll pay you."

"No." The answer burst out of Cheldan. Realizing how sharp he had sounded, he hurriedly added, "I mean, I'm rather busy these next two days. I probably won't have time. You should ask someone else."
