Clemens nodded. Soon, a guard strode into the Presidential Palace, his gaze steely. The mist had vanished, but no one knew whether the danger inside had truly passed. Still, his pride as a guard would not let him refuse an order from his superior.

Sherif and the others watched the Presidential Palace anxiously. Many guards drew their weapons and stood ready around the president.

"Ninit Tyr."

Several folklore experts came over, their eyes full of admiration as they looked at Ninitetir. It had been a long time since they had seen a young scholar so daring. He had actually bluffed the president to his face—and made it sound convincing. If they had not studied the myths and legends of Heliopolis, the Sun City, so thoroughly, they might have believed him too.

One of them greeted him with a smile. "Ninit Tyr, which university did you graduate from? Milo University's history department?"

"Hello, Professor Khafra. I graduated from the history department at South River Valley University." Seeing one of the field's leading experts, Ninitetir felt the excitement of meeting an idol.

Professor Khafra gave him a kindly smile. "Where are you working now? For the government?"

"I've been writing a popular book about mythology. A publisher contacted me and said they're very interested in it. It should be published soon." Ninit Tyr sounded a little self-conscious.

In their field, government-funded archaeologists always held more status than writers of popular books. The true leaders in the field had work to do; they would never spend their time and energy writing for a general audience.

But Professor Khafra did not look down on popular books as Ninitetir had feared. They were all at the bottom of the academic pecking order, trying to make a living. Who was he to look down on
