Meng Chuan took out the Immortal Cauldron and questioned it. The cauldron should be able to answer all his questions.
Immortal Artifacts had spirits. Meng Chuan had even prepared to use force; after all, this cauldron had never spoken to Kungu and his three companions. It was clearly aloof.
"I can tell you what I know."
Meng Chuan froze. He had not expected an answer so readily. Weren't you supposed to be an aloof cauldron?
Kungu and the others would be so furious they might come back to life!
"Why?" Meng Chuan asked. He had only just obtained the Immortal Cauldron and had not refined it. Surely it could not be because he was handsome.
"I sense a familiar aura on you. It was the cause of the previous spirit's death."
The Immortal Cauldron's answer caught Meng Chuan off guard. A familiar aura? Has the Artifact Spirit mistaken me for someone's reincarnation? And a previous spirit? Was the current Artifact Spirit born later?
"Explain yourself. Tell me everything you know." Meng Chuan looked at the Immortal Cauldron, his voice cold.
"I've lost most of my memories. Although I was born within this cauldron, the previous Artifact Spirit left me little." The Immortal Cauldron sent its thoughts to Meng Chuan as it began its account.
"I remember only one thing: the aura on you and the previous spirit's death are connected."
"The cauldron's owner had just become a Quasi-Immortal King. I believe that was the title. It is one of the few things I remember clearly," the Immortal Cauldron's Artifact Spirit recalled. It did not seem to be lying.
"This cauldron was his artifact. He intended to elevate it into a Quasi-King artifact and had only begun refining it when the most terrifying disaster struck." As the Artifact Spirit spoke, the cauldron trembled almost imperceptibly, as though afraid.
"Someone invaded the world where the cauldron's owner lived—the world recorded in the inheritance. He came alone!" The Artifact Spirit's words were tinged with awe. Though it had never witnessed the event itself, the few images in its fragmented memories had nearly shattered it.
Meng Chuan looked at the Immortal Cauldron. He had begun to suspect what had happened, but he did not interrupt.
"Those so-called undying kings, who claimed they could endure ten thousand tribulations, were cut down by that man like grass." The Artifact Spirit's account was astonishing, yet Meng Chuan remained calm. He had a fair idea what had happened.
"Later, the man fought his way into the depths of that world. The cauldron's owner and the previous Artifact Spirit died as a result." The Artifact Spirit had told him everything it knew.
After listening, Meng Chuan asked with an odd expression, "Are you saying your master..."
"Not my master. The master of this cauldron's previous Artifact Spirit!" the Artifact Spirit interrupted. It clearly disliked Meng Chuan calling that Quasi-Immortal King its master.
"All right, all right. Are you saying the previous Artifact Spirit's master died fighting in that battle?" If so, that would be absurd.
"How could he have?" The Artifact Spirit sounded disdainful. "When that invincible powerhouse was slaughtering Immortal Kings, a stray shockwave he released without even meaning to killed the Quasi-King outright. It shattered the previous Artifact Spirit's soul as well!"
"That shockwave wiped away every trace of the Quasi-King's Dao imprints in the Immortal Cauldron. It also washed through the Quasi-King's power inside, leaving only its purest essence."
"Then the cauldron was blasted out of that world, its body shattered into pieces. After I was born, I drew on the Quasi-King's power and slowly repaired it." The Artifact Spirit still shuddered at the memory.
Meng Chuan nodded silently. That's more like it. How could a 'weakling' like a Quasi-Immortal King qualify to take part in that battle?
"This cauldron once sensed that supreme powerhouse's aura. Yours is somewhat similar." The spirit had finally explained why Meng Chuan felt familiar. After a moment's hesitation, it said with boundless reverence, "I remember what those Immortal Kings called him: Desolate!"
Meng Chuan nodded. He had already guessed. The battle in which Immortal Kings had been killed like grass must have been the one where the Desolate Heaven Emperor pacified the Foreign Realm.
As for his aura resembling Desolate's, the cauldron could have dragged any cultivator out of the universe and sensed some resemblance. It was only a question of degree.
After all, who in the Shrouding the Heavens World did not cultivate with their own body as the seed?
Still... Looking at the Immortal Artifact, Meng Chuan thought, I never expected this cauldron to be such a sycophant.
Perhaps every trace of the Quasi-Immortal King within the cauldron had been erased, leaving the Desolate Heaven Emperor's power as the last thing it had sensed.
As a result, when the cauldron's new Artifact Spirit was born, it felt no attachment to the former Quasi-King. It considered him merely the previous Artifact Spirit's master, someone with no connection to itself, and even spoke of him with disdain.
Yet it revered Shi Hao and even felt an affinity for the cultivation system Shi Hao had passed down...
A sycophant—no, a sycophantic cauldron...
By now, some mysteries had been resolved. Meng Chuan clearly understood how this upheaval had unfolded, but it had given rise to an even greater question.
What had happened to the Boundary Sea since the Desolate Heaven Emperor severed the ages with his sword? How had it become like that? In the past, True Immortals could not survive there for long, and even Immortal Kings could lose their way. Now, though it remained beyond the sight of those in the Human Dao Realm, a single Immortal Artifact could shelter four people there for five thousand years. True Immortals could probably travel through the Boundary Sea freely by now.
Meng Chuan pondered the possibilities at length. Finally, he made a decision.
He opened the chat panel!
Meng Chuan: Good evening.
Zhang Sanfeng: Good morning.
Daigu Madoka: Good afternoon.
There was no problem that chatting in the group could not solve. If there was, they simply had not chatted long enough!
Meng Chuan: I have something to say!
The Ancient One: Go ahead, Great Emperor.
Meng Chuan: This happened, then that happened.
Meng Chuan then gave the group a rough account of his discoveries.
Lu Mingfei: Tsk, how tragic. Truly tragic.
Bibi Dong: Who are you calling tragic, @Lu Mingfei? You haven't been online much lately.
Lu Mingfei: Kungu and the other three had it worst. I've been busy lately. I'm about to graduate.
Lu Mingfei: Just think about those four. An Immortal Artifact fell from the sky, and they sailed all the way to the pinnacle of their world. That's a protagonist's life if I ever saw one! What a shame.
Zhang Sanfeng: Mingfei is right. What a shame.
Daigu Madoka: Zhang Sanfeng is right. What a shame.
Bibi Dong: I'm right, and it's no shame at all!
Bibi Dong: Great Emperor, don't worry. That Boundary Sea of yours probably won't threaten your safety. @Meng Chuan
Meng Chuan: Sorry, I was never worried.
When Bibi Dong saw Meng Chuan's reply, she slammed down her rice bowl in anger.
"I was comforting you in the group while eating, and that's how you respond?" Bibi Dong was furious. She felt her concern had been misplaced. She had also learned a profound lesson from the group.
"Men surnamed Meng are no good!"
Meng Chuan truly had not been worried. The Nine Heavens and Ten Lands remained cut off from the Boundary Sea. Whatever trouble might arise, it would not reach him for at least hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of years.
Meng Chuan: You're about to graduate? @Lu Mingfei Then you'll be going to that grand (and utterly miserable) Literature Club graduation party?
Lu Mingfei: Great Emperor, I'm not the Loser I used to be...
Meng Chuan: Sure thing, Brother Lu!
After chatting for a while, Meng Chuan glanced at a system notification that had been sitting there for days. Then he looked at Lu Mingfei's dimmed avatar and smiled. Behind Lu Mingfei's back, he discussed a few things with the other group members.
System notification: Administrator Meng Chuan's authority has increased three times. World travel is now unlocked; you may visit the worlds of group members!
Thanks for the recommendation votes, you handsome devils. Keep the votes and follows coming!
