Watching Little Devil pull faces, his whole expression screaming for mercy, Lu Mingfei almost laughed. You spy on me all day long. Caught you now!
"Lu Mingfei, is this your brother?" Meng Chuan asked, feigning ignorance. "Wasn't your brother that chubby kid?" He glanced at Little Devil, Lu Mingze.
A chill ran through Lu Mingze. That single glance seemed to see straight through him.
"Great Emperor, I'm his real brother! His own flesh and blood!" Lu Mingze said ingratiatingly. He could sense how powerful the man before him was and promptly called Meng Chuan "Great Emperor." His brother did it too, so why shouldn't he?
"Shameless." Lu Mingfei curled his lip. He knew Little Devil had never had any scruples around him, but he hadn't expected him to act the same way before the Great Emperor.
"Apologize to the Great Emperor, and stop peeking at him!" Lu Mingfei smacked Little Devil on the head and put on a stern voice.
"Great Emperor, I didn't mean to look. I just noticed that this useless—" Lu Mingze sensed the immense power inside Lu Mingfei, and his voice faltered.
"I was just worried about my brother, and I happened to see you."
"Don't think I don't know what you were about to say!" Lu Mingfei rapped him on the head. Lu Mingze clutched his head with both hands, his eyes brimming with tears. What an actor.
Meng Chuan let go of Lu Mingze and looked at Lu Mingfei. "You've met him before?"
"No, but he is my brother, after all." Lu Mingfei smiled. "Even if he's a brother who's always after my life."
Shock flashed through Lu Mingze's eyes, but he wisely kept quiet. He could tell that this man Lu Mingfei knew had no intention of killing him. It was only a warning.
But how could someone so terrifying exist... Thinking of the hand that had reached all the way to the Arctic and snatched him up without giving him the slightest chance to resist, Lu Mingze shuddered.
"Great Emperor, what about Odin? Are we still going?" Lu Mingfei asked Meng Chuan. He still very much wanted to kill Odin. After all, he had a powerful backer now!
"Why wouldn't we? Your brother isn't the only one who's been watching me. That dragon has too." Meng Chuan looked toward the Nibelungen suspended between illusion and reality within the city.
"Then let's go kill him! We're slaying a Dragon King today!" Lu Mingfei's voice rose as he looked toward the Nibelungen. With his current bloodline, he had long since sensed its presence.
"That spear is no ordinary weapon," Lu Mingze said. Hearing them discuss killing Odin in the same tone they might use to decide what to eat, he couldn't help warning them.
He had only said the spear was dangerous, though. He hadn't said the same of Odin.
Smack!
Another slap landed on Lu Mingze's head. Lu Mingfei looked displeased. "What, you don't believe in the Great Emperor?"
His Golden Eyes fixed on Lu Mingze, a king's majesty bearing down from every direction.
"I do! I'd doubt myself before I'd doubt the Great Emperor!" Lu Mingze cried in protest. The pressure from Lu Mingfei's eyes had no effect on him, of course, but he was surprised. He sounded at once wistful and a little defeated.
"My brother really has changed. Maybe he won't need his little brother anymore."
There was such hurt in Lu Mingze's voice that, for a moment, Lu Mingfei felt as though he were looking at an abandoned puppy.
"So dramatic!" Lu Mingfei reached out again. This time, instead of smacking Lu Mingze's head, he gently ruffled his hair until it was a mess.
"Great Emperor, let's go," Lu Mingfei said.
"All right."
As soon as Meng Chuan spoke, the world spun. The three of them vanished from the rooftop and appeared on a highway. Heavy rain poured from the sky, gathering into little streams on the road before running off to the sides.
Darkness lay beyond the highway, but pair after pair of golden eyes watched the three sudden arrivals.
"A separate space carved out using rules? It doesn't even qualify as a small world!" Meng Chuan surveyed the place and saw through the Nibelungen's nature at a glance.
Lu Mingfei rolled his neck and looked toward the figure shrouded in white light at the far end of the highway. He actually sounded pleased.
"Is that Odin?"
Within the white light stood a horse as imposing as a mountain. Heavy armor inlaid with metal patterns covered it, and its white coat glittered like diamonds. It had eight legs! Eight mighty legs held it upright.
A mask covered the horse's face. Each whinny sounded like thunder, and afterward, sparks of electricity sprayed from the mask's metal nostrils.
A massive black shadow sat on its back, clad head to toe in heavy dark-gold armor. In his hand was a curved spear, its arc like the trail of a meteor across the sky.
An iron mask covered his face, leaving only one eye visible. Its golden pupil lit up the surroundings like an enormous lamp.
Odin! King of the gods in Norse mythology! And a Dragon King as well!
"The game hasn't even started, and we're already facing a boss near the final level." Lu Mingze looked miserable. One glance at Lu Mingfei, who was itching for a fight, made him feel worse.
My idiot brother would've been beaten to death already if he didn't have someone backing him up! But after sneaking a glance at Meng Chuan, Lu Mingze felt reassured.
I'm tied to my brother. My brother has a backer, so that means I have one too!
But this is the first time someone else has stood behind me... Lu Mingze's thoughts raced. With the power he possessed in this world, others had always relied on him. This was the first time he had relied on someone else to stand up for him.
And honestly, it feels pretty good!
Meng Chuan and Lu Mingfei knew nothing of Lu Mingze's thoughts. Meng Chuan was looking at the imposing figure atop the Eight-Legged Pegasus...
At the spear in his hand!
"Gungnir, a Causality Weapon... I wonder what mysteries it holds." Meng Chuan sounded contemplative, but his tone practically declared that the weapon was destined to be his.
Lu Mingfei was quick on the uptake. He caught Meng Chuan's meaning at once, stepped forward, and shouted, "You there, scoundrel! Hand over that spear at once!"
Meng Chuan: "..."
Do you have to be so dramatic?
Beside him, Lu Mingze stared in disbelief. A suspicion arose in his mind: was this how his brother had won over such a powerful backer, through sheer flattery?
Odin stood motionless in the distance. Lu Mingfei's eyes darted about, then he turned to Meng Chuan. "Great Emperor, this fellow has no sense at all! He obviously hasn't witnessed your heavenly might. Great Emperor, perhaps you could..."
Lu Mingfei was trying to goad Meng Chuan into swatting Odin dead on the spot.
"A small fry like him isn't worthy of my attention. If you want him dead, do it yourself." Meng Chuan's words were arrogant, yet somehow sounded perfectly reasonable.
Lu Mingfei's face fell. He muttered, "If I could beat him, I'd have gone over and chopped him up already!"
Meng Chuan glanced at Lu Mingfei with an amused look. "How about this, then? Doing it myself would be beneath me."
"I'll give you an Emperor Weapon. Surely you can beat him with that?"
Lu Mingfei perked up. With an Emperor Weapon, would smashing Odin really be a problem?
"Don't worry, Great Emperor. Odin? He'll go down in one stroke!" Lu Mingfei thumped his chest in assurance. Before an Emperor Weapon, Odin was nothing!
Meng Chuan smiled at Lu Mingfei. A long blade appeared in his hand, and he passed it over.
Lu Mingfei took the blade and ran a hand over it. "Great Emperor, why isn't it your Great Dao Jade Disc? I've never seen you use this blade."
Meng Chuan looked at him. "I'm still alive, and you want to use my Emperor Weapon? At my level of strength, is it strange for me to have a second one? Would I lie to you?"
Lu Mingfei thought it over and had to agree. An Emperor Weapon was practically another Great Emperor. It would be a little strange for Meng Chuan to hand his own over.
"Then I'm off, Great Emperor!" Lu Mingfei let out a yell, but Meng Chuan stopped him.
"I've sealed part of the Emperor Weapon's power. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to wield it. I'm also afraid you'd split the planet in two."
Lu Mingfei nodded to show that he understood the Great Emperor's thoughtful intentions, then charged straight at Odin.
It was a battle between a king and a man with an overpowered cheat. Blood was bound to flow with every stroke!
