Personality

Dai Mubai takes pride in being Shrek’s strongest student and treats weaker classmates as beneath him. When appointed deputy examiner, he regards Ma Hongjun and Oscar as insignificant and Li Qiu as even less worthy of consideration. He also believes his royal heritage and White Tiger Martial Soul give him an advantage that a commoner’s mutated Martial Soul cannot overcome 6 25.

He approves of boldness when it amuses him: he praises Li Qiu for delaying Ma Hongjun’s treatment, arguing that a good Soul Master should cause trouble rather than obey meekly. Once Li Qiu threatens his own standing, however, that approval turns into resentment and plans for retaliation 5 15 18.

His attitude toward Zhu Zhuqing is possessive. He threatens Li Qiu for speaking to her, resents her willingness to spend time with him, and becomes furious when she supports Li Qiu’s captaincy challenge. Background / History

Established Student and Deputy Examiner

Dai Mubai is a prince of the Star Luo Empire and an established Shrek student. At the beginning of the story, Li Qiu heals a wound on his arm and removes its bruising. Dai Mubai leaves without acknowledging the exhausted healer, heading out to prepare for recruitment 1 9.

When Ma Hongjun returns from an unidentified armored attacker’s beating, Dai Mubai and Oscar mock his injuries. Dai Mubai then welcomes Li Qiu’s newfound willingness to make Ma Hongjun wait for treatment. During the following morning’s run, Zhao Wuji appoints him deputy recruitment examiner. Dai Mubai kicks Ma Hongjun for slowing down, causing the injured boy’s hand to strike a tree and break again 5 6.

Recruitment and Conflict over Zhu Zhuqing

Dai Mubai recognizes Zhu Zhuqing among the applicants and fixes his attention on her. Li Qiu deliberately draws Xiao Wu into discussing Dai Mubai’s earlier outing with a pair of twins. Xiao Wu reveals that he went to the Rose Hotel with them and fought Tang San over a room; Tang San confirms her account. Oscar stops Dai Mubai from attacking them again 8 9.

Seeking retaliation, Dai Mubai tells Zhao Wuji that the newcomers claimed they could beat the examiner. Zhao Wuji responds by arranging a combat trial. Dai Mubai explains the teacher’s level and Martial Soul while pretending concern for the applicants, but privately hopes Tang San and Xiao Wu will receive a beating 9 10 11.

The plan fails when Zhao Wuji allows the applicants to withdraw from the trial and still enroll. Dai Mubai’s anger increasingly centers on Li Qiu, whose conversations with Zhu Zhuqing and assistance in showing the newcomers to their dormitories deprive him of opportunities to approach her 11 12.

Li Qiu’s Rise and the Captaincy Duel

Dai Mubai is startled when Li Qiu defeats Ma Hongjun and Oscar despite being only level 26. He questions Li Qiu about his advancement and second Soul Ring, but receives no explanation of their source. Although he acknowledges the achievement, he privately intends to reassert his authority 14 15.

Li Qiu’s demonstration of a two-thousand-year second Soul Ring further unsettles him: Dai Mubai’s own third ring is only one thousand years old. He sees Li Qiu’s growing recognition as a threat to his standing and looks for an opportunity to defeat him 17 18.

Flender eventually declares that anyone who defeats Dai Mubai will become captain. Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing encourage Li Qiu to challenge him. Dai Mubai accepts, eager to test the two-thousand-year Soul Skill, while Zhu Zhuqing openly condemns his brothel-going as unsuitable conduct for a captain 24.

Flender requires a one-on-one duel despite the eleven-level difference between the opponents. Dai Mubai’s barrier and light-wave attack fail against Li Qiu’s fire attacks. When he activates White Tiger Vajra Transformation, Li Qiu copies it and strengthens his own Phoenix Fire Line, blasting Dai Mubai away. The defeat leaves Dai Mubai badly burned, with most of his hair singed away and his clothes scorched to rags; Flender appoints Li Qiu captain 25.
