Background / History

Spirit Hall raised Bibi Dong for more than a decade, investing considerable resources in her as its Holy Maiden and future pope. She became Qian Xunji’s disciple and fell in love with Yu Xiaogang, eventually wanting to elope with him. Qian Daoliu drove Yu Xiaogang away rather than killing him, out of consideration for the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan 40.

Qian Xunji sexually assaulted Bibi Dong; Qian Daoliu’s later recollection connects that assault to her eventual killing of Qian Xunji. Bibi Dong and Qian Xunji were Qian Renxue’s parents, but Bibi Dong required their daughter to address her as “Sister,” not “Mother.” Their relationship remained concealed from Spirit Hall’s lower and middle ranks until Xiao Ran exposed it through the Sky Screen 3 40.

As pope, Bibi Dong organized the Soul Hunting Operation against the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Xiao Ran attributes the latter clan’s extermination to her desire to avenge Yu Xiaogang’s supposed mistreatment. Yu Xiaogang later privately admits that he invented those accounts to gain her sympathy 25 26 36.

Personality

Bibi Dong is fiercely possessive of her papal authority. When Qian Renxue first appears on the Sky Screen, she responds with mockery and indifference rather than concern, interpreting the spectacle as a possible attempt to claim credit for the Nation-Stealing Plan and challenge her position 2.

Her public leadership conceals a deep hostility toward Spirit Hall itself. Unlike the Worship Hall elders, who hope to hear that Spirit Hall will unify the continent, she initially hopes for its destruction—preferably by her own hand. She hides her pleasure at its foretold downfall, but refuses to accept the accompanying prediction of her own death without resistance 3 5 6.

Her attachments expose contradictions in her treatment of others. She raises Hu Liena like a daughter while remaining cold toward Qian Renxue, then feels betrayed when Hu Liena prioritizes Tang San. Recognizing similarities between her disciple’s behavior and her own past briefly makes her understand Qian Xunji’s anger, though she rejects that sympathy. In the revealed future, her final act is nevertheless to protect Qian Renxue at the cost of her life 18 20 25.

Rupture with Hu Liena

Xiao Ran reveals that Hu Liena would warn Tang San about Bibi Dong’s hunt for the Sky Azure Bull Python and Titan Giant Ape. Tang San’s intervention would allow the beasts to sacrifice themselves to him, depriving Bibi Dong of their hundred-thousand-year Soul Rings and Soul Bones. Hearing this, Bibi Dong begins to connect her disciple’s betrayal with her future defeat and death 17 18.

Hu Liena explains that she wanted to repay Tang San and allow him and her teacher to coexist. Bibi Dong instead tells her to concentrate on cultivation and stop remaining at her side. Hu Liena’s subsequent plea to spare Tang San deepens the breach 18 20.
