But time on the Sky Screen clearly flowed differently from time here.
Sometimes, a conversation between two people played out clearly from beginning to end.
At other times, the images shifted one after another: the boy ground Whale Rubber in his room, wrote notes in a booklet, then trained on a mountain path.
Several scenes flashed by. When the view returned to the forest, more than a month had passed there. At Shrek Academy, the shadows of the trees beside the field had moved only a little.
"More than a month already? Didn't he just bring the Whale Rubber back?" Oscar muttered.
"Looks like we really can't measure time over there by ours," Dai Mubai said, looking up at the Sky Screen with a slight frown.
Ning Rongrong paid little attention to the time. She looked at the boy on the screen, then stole a glance at Grandmaster standing ahead of them.
Ever since she had learned that the boy on the Sky Screen was also called Yu Xiaogang, the whole thing had struck her as strange. They shared a name, both came from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, and both had a Martial Soul called Luo Sanpao. Yet so much about them was different.
The Yu Xiaogang on the screen was only fifteen, with a little golden dog at his side.
Grandmaster, standing before them, was already middle-aged.
And now Grandmaster was watching his otherworldly self become someone else's disciple. That was far more intriguing than merely seeing another world.
"They're both Luo Sanpao, so why is one a little golden dog and the other a pale-purple piglet?" Xiao Wu said as she watched the Sky Screen.
"And the one in there is much cuter."
Tang San glanced at her and said quietly:
"Xiao Wu, they're different worlds. It's only natural that some things would be different."
Tang San found it easier than the others to accept the existence of another world. After all, he himself had come from one.
But seeing something like this happen to his own teacher still left him with feelings he could hardly put into words.
When he had watched the young Yu Xiaogang kneel and acknowledge a master, even Tang San had been unable to resist glancing at Grandmaster several times.
Ma Hongjun had nearly blurted out a question then: had Tang San suddenly gained another grandmaster?
Fortunately, Tang San had stopped him before he could finish.
Grandmaster had evidently heard him too. His expression had been sour ever since.
Now, the master and disciple on the Sky Screen had met again at the foot of the mountain.
Everyone had just watched Yu Xiaogang take out his booklet and report the changes in his body to Li Qingshan when Li Qingshan pulled out a bag of things and tossed it onto the bluestone.
Several chunks of beast meat.
An earthenware jar filled with beast blood.
And the golden Luo Sanpao began drooling at the smell.
"Dragon-Type Soul Beast meat?"
Zhao Wuji studied it for a moment and recognized what Li Qingshan had brought out.
Then Li Qingshan's explanation of Detached Martial Souls, Independent Consciousness, and growing through eating reached them, sentence by sentence.
The field gradually fell silent. When he said, "Feed him Dragon Meat and Dragon Blood to promote a Second Evolution," Grandmaster finally let out a cold laugh.
"Absurd!"
Tang San turned toward him.
"Teacher, you think this method is wrong?"
"Of course it's wrong." Grandmaster stared at the Sky Screen, his voice dripping with disdain. "A few chunks of Dragon-Type Soul Beast meat and some blood, and he dares claim he can make a Martial Soul evolve?"
"What does he think a Martial Soul is?"
"Some common farm animal kept in the yard? Feed it well enough and it'll grow new abilities?"
Flender glanced at him but did not answer immediately.
On the Sky Screen, Yu Xiaogang had already nodded and crouched down to let Luo Sanpao eat the meat before him. The earnest way the boy followed Li Qingshan's instructions made Grandmaster more uncomfortable still.
"This Yu Xiaogang is far too quick to trust people,"
Grandmaster said coldly.
"He believes whatever anyone tells him. Promise him a chance to evolve his Martial Soul, and he becomes their disciple just like that. How stupid can he be?"
Ning Rongrong hesitated before asking:
"Grandmaster, didn't Li Qingshan already show his Martial Souls?"
"And that pressure..."
She looked up at the Sky Screen, the earlier scene rising again in her mind.
The wind had stopped.
Fallen leaves had hung suspended in midair.
The young Yu Xiaogang had stood before Li Qingshan with his body trembling slightly. She had never seen anything like it.
"Showing two swords proves he's a Level 99 Limit Douluo?" Grandmaster asked in return.
Ning Rongrong froze for a moment.
Grandmaster went on:
"I won't deny he has Twin Martial Souls. But Twin Martial Souls indicate talent, not that he has already reached the level of a Limit Douluo."
"As for that so-called pressure..."
He raised a hand toward the sky.
"All we saw were images on the Sky Screen."
"Did any of you feel it yourselves?"
No one on the field answered.
He had a point.
They had seen what happened when Li Qingshan released his aura, but they had not endured that pressure themselves.
Seeing this, Grandmaster sounded more certain than ever:
"Mental Soul Skills can also make people afraid. Certain control techniques might well affect the plants around them."
"It's far too hasty to decide he's Level 99 based on a single moment. Besides, did he ever actually show nine Soul Rings?"
Tang San grew thoughtful.
While watching earlier, he too had been drawn in by Li Qingshan's imposing presence and had instinctively taken him for a hidden expert.
But after hearing his teacher's reasoning, it seemed there really was not enough evidence to prove the man had reached Level 99.
Flender still looked unconvinced. "Xiaogang, setting his cultivation aside, the Whale Rubber did have an effect."
"You saw the changes in your otherworldly self's body."
Grandmaster's mouth stiffened slightly.
Of course he had seen them. He remembered clearly what the young Yu Xiaogang had been like when he first met Li Qingshan over a month earlier.
By their second meeting, the boy's complexion and energy had indeed improved. His before-and-after records were not entirely unpersuasive, either.
That was precisely what irked Grandmaster. Li Qingshan had taken something used to spice up lovemaking, used it to aid cultivation, and actually gotten results.
And Grandmaster had never known it could be used that way!!!
Grandmaster said coldly:
"Whale Rubber may improve the body, but that doesn't mean Dragon Meat can evolve a Martial Soul. Knowing an unusual use for one medicinal ingredient and truly understanding Martial Souls are two different things."
"And just because he was right about one thing doesn't mean everything he says afterward is right."
With that, he looked back at the Sky Screen.
"Especially when it comes to Luo Sanpao."
"Who in this world knows him better than I do?"
As his words fell, faint purple light gathered before him. Luo Sanpao appeared in front of everyone, round and plump, with pale-purple fur.
He barked twice at Grandmaster, then raised his head to look at the little golden fellow on the Sky Screen, who was busy devouring meat.
Two Luo Sanpaos: one on the Sky Screen, the other right beside their feet.
They shared a name, but looked quite different.
Oscar looked at him, then at the Sky Screen.
Whatever else you could say, Sanpao in there sure eats well, he muttered inwardly.
Dragon-Type Soul Beast meat and blood.
Those were hardly things one could get just anywhere.
Grandmaster did not notice his expression. He merely pointed at Luo Sanpao and continued, "I've known for a long time that Sanpao can eat."
"Food replenishes what he expends and reduces his reliance on my Soul Power."
"But replenishing what he expends is not the same as changing a Martial Soul's fundamental nature. Li Qingshan has confused the two, and that's why he's spouting such irresponsible nonsense."
