In the comic-based world, Yu Yuanzhen spends years seeking ways to help his son overcome his low innate talent and failed Martial Soul mutation. He obtains medicinal ingredients and hires instructors, but Xiaogang still needs nine years to reach level ten. Delighted by that breakthrough, Yu Yuanzhen immediately arranges a search for a suitable first Soul Beast 1.

When Xiaogang asks to postpone obtaining his First Soul Ring, Yu Yuanzhen accepts after seeing that he continues cultivating diligently. Having already waited nine years, he considers another month insignificant 6.

His eventual choice is a roughly 350-year-old Thunder Dragon Lizard, kept in the clan’s beast pens. Its dragon blood and lightning attribute are intended to compensate for Luo Sanpao’s weak attacks. Li Qingshan acknowledges the care behind this selection but chooses a Holy Light Earth Dragon to support Sanpao’s evolution instead 12.

Xiaogang explains his apprenticeship under Li Qingshan, who claims to be the level-ninety-nine Love Sword Douluo. Yu Yuanzhen initially doubts an unfamiliar title of such importance, but personally examines Luo Sanpao’s scales, limbs, and tail. These tangible changes, together with the new Soul Ring and Sacred Dragon Breath, give him hope that Li can change his son’s future 16.

Yu Yuanzhen asks to thank Li in person and discusses him with Yu Luomian and the elders.
