Background / History
Holy Soul Village Awakening
By the time he visits Holy Soul Village, Su Yuntao has conducted awakenings in hundreds of villages across Fasinuo Province. At the village’s annual ceremony, he awakens eight children, including Tang San and Su Chen. The first six possess ordinary Martial Souls without Soul Power, leaving him exhausted and disappointed 1 2.
He initially dismisses Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass and nearly ends the ritual without testing his Soul Power. At Tang San’s insistence, he performs the test and discovers Innate Full Soul Power. He nevertheless considers the boy’s Martial Soul a severe limitation 1.
Su Chen’s awakening overwhelms him: the Chaos Ancestral Dragon forcibly drives his Lone Wolf Martial Soul back into his body. When Su Chen subsequently destroys the testing crystal, Su Yuntao records his innate Soul Power as beyond the measurable limit and at least level twenty 1 2.
Reporting Su Chen’s Talent
Su Yuntao urges Su Chen to join Spirit Hall, claiming that the Pope would surely accept him as a personal disciple. Su Chen postpones any decision and requests the awakening certificates instead. Su Yuntao gives him a highest-grade, gold-bordered certificate and the Nuoding branch’s highest recommendation token, then rides back to report the discovery. Before leaving, he promises that a senior deacon will collect Su Chen within three days 2.
He later sends an urgent secret report to the provincial Spirit Hall. When Su Chen requests access to Soul Hunting Forest, Su Yuntao supplies a third-class permit, citing Ma Xiunuo’s instructions to grant the boy every branch privilege without condition 12.
Vindication at Nuoding Spirit Hall
Ma Xiunuo questions the extraordinary awakening report and warns that false claims could result in punishment for deceiving the Pope’s Hall. Su Yuntao swears on his life and Martial Soul that his account is true, offering to submit to Sacred Fire Judgment if he has lied 19.
Su Chen’s arrival and display of two purple Soul Rings confirm the report’s extraordinary claims. The accompanying dragon pressure forces Su Yuntao onto one knee and leaves his Lone Wolf whimpering. After certifying Su Chen as a Soul Grandmaster, Ma Xiunuo sends an urgent message directly to Bibi Dong 19.
Appearance
- Normal appearance: A handsome young man with sharp brows and bright eyes 1.
- Uniform: Neat white Spirit Hall clothing with a three-sword chest badge identifying him as a Soul Grandmaster 1.
- Martial Soul possession: His face elongates, his eyes turn sickly green, his muscles swell, and gray wolf fur and sharp claws emerge 1.
Personality
Su Yuntao combines professional gentleness with a trace of urban Soul Master arrogance. Although conscious of his limited time, he smiles at frightened children and reassures them that Beast Martial Soul possession is normal 1.
His judgments rely heavily on conventional Martial Soul rankings. He assumes Blue Silver Grass cannot produce Soul Power and remains regretful about Tang San’s prospects even after discovering his exceptional innate power 1.
Su Chen’s talent transforms his manner from routine disappointment to fervent deference. He presents documents with both hands, addresses the boy with honorifics, and later calls him “Lord Su Chen.” Despite Ma Xiunuo’s doubts and the threatened punishment, he firmly defends what he witnessed 2 12 19.
