Ye Tian knew what Bibi Dong was worried about, but he had never fought a battle he wasn't sure he could win.
Since Yu Xiaogang had neither added to nor updated his theories, leaving them exactly as they had been, Ye Tian was certain he could make Yu Xiaogang publicly humiliate himself.
If Yu Xiaogang's theories had been useful, they would have spread across Douluo Continent long ago.
"All right. I'll do whatever you say."
"Someone like him won't behave until the world gives him a good beating."
Bibi Dong nodded repeatedly. She still believed in Ye Tian's abilities.
If even the Elder Auspicious Beast Qilin, who knew the past and present and could foresee the future, lacked confidence, then no one could be confident.
Three days later, Yu Xiaogang had ten thousand copies of his theories printed and placed in the central square.
At first, some people thought a swindler was handing out risqué picture books for free and paid no attention.
But as more and more books were brought out, they quickly drew everyone's attention.
After all, Spirit Hall did nothing, allowing Yu Xiaogang to pile books all around him.
Everyone realized Spirit Hall had permitted it.
If Spirit Hall had allowed it, there had to be something worthwhile in those books.
And so more and more people came to collect free copies and read them.
Some found the theories fascinating and read with relish.
Others sneered at them, feeling that almost everything written there was empty talk.
Some thought the author was a rare talent, while others thought writing the book had been a pointless waste of time.
The more people read it, the more doubts they raised.
They especially questioned its most famous line: "There are no useless Martial Souls, only useless Soul Masters."
It sounded stirring, but in practice it was worth nothing.
If those theories worked, there would be no weak people in the world.
As the crowd debated, Bibi Dong arrived with Ye Tian and a Spirit Hall enforcement squad.
The squad had only nine members, but every one of them was above the Soul Emperor level.
Everyone present made way when they saw Spirit Hall's people approaching.
Yu Xiaogang looked at Bibi Dong and Ye Tian, a glint of smugness in his eyes.
From what he had observed, more than half the people who had read his theories strongly agreed with them.
This time, victory was assured. He was going to make his name known throughout Douluo Continent.
"Everyone, I am Bibi Dong, the Spirit Hall Saintess."
"This is Yu Xiaogang. The theories in your hands are his work."
"You may now share your opinions and discuss the value of his theories."
Holding Ye Tian's little hand, Bibi Dong stepped onto the platform, announced who she was, and invited everyone to judge the book.
The crowd froze.
The Spirit Hall Saintess had come to preside over this herself? Yu Xiaogang commanded that much respect?
"Your Highness, I think this book has its merits. It seems all right."
A voice suddenly rang out, praising Yu Xiaogang's theories.
Yu Xiaogang's face lit up. He had known people would like and approve of them.
"Your Highness, these theories are practical. They're useful to us Soul Masters."
"I think so too. This young man has talent."
"These theories are incredibly detailed. They're a landmark achievement for Douluo Continent."
Once one person spoke up, others followed, all praising Yu Xiaogang. He grinned so broadly his mouth nearly twisted sideways.
"Your Highness, you see? The people can tell good work when they see it. They all approve of my theories."
Yu Xiaogang flaunted his success before Bibi Dong and Ye Tian.
He really might become famous.
By then, perhaps even Bibi Dong would no longer be good enough for him.
He would no longer need Spirit Hall's help to spread his theories, either.
Bibi Dong's face turned livid as she watched him gloat.
Hadn't Ye Tian said he could leave Yu Xiaogang utterly disgraced?
Why had things turned out like this?
Wasn't this handing him everything he wanted?
Sensing her anxiety, Ye Tian squeezed her hand and secretly transmitted his voice to her. "Dong'er, it's fine. Let the bullet fly a little longer!"
Seeing that he wasn't panicking, Bibi Dong relaxed a little.
Just as Yu Xiaogang reached the height of his triumph, a dissenting voice rose above the crowd.
"Are you serious about 'There are no useless Martial Souls, only useless Soul Masters'?"
"May I ask what level you've reached? You must be a top-tier genius. Could you tell us your Soul Power Level and summon your Martial Soul so we can admire it?"
Yu Xiaogang's expression shifted slightly at the challenge. "Well, that's relative, actually."
"Don't tell us it's relative. We want to know whether your theories work. As the one who researched them, you must have firsthand experience."
"That's right. Summon your Martial Soul and let everyone have a look."
"Why keep your abilities hidden? Show us what you can do, or none of us will believe you."
Curiosity swept through the crowd, and everyone called for Yu Xiaogang to summon his Martial Soul and demonstrate his strength.
Yu Xiaogang tried to change the subject under their questioning, but someone always steered the conversation back.
Seeing that the crowd was worked up, Ye Tian secretly sent a burst of Soul Power into Yu Xiaogang's body.
In an instant, his Martial Soul, Luo Sanpao, appeared, along with just two Soul Rings.
"A Two-Ring Soul Grandmaster? With a pig Martial Soul?"
"What kind of bullshit theories are these? You're useless yourself. Why should we believe you?"
"You make it sound so nice—'There are no useless Martial Souls, only useless Soul Masters.' Aren't you talking about yourself?"
"Exactly. You could at least practice what you preach."
Seeing his Martial Soul and cultivation, the crowd burst into ridicule. Some even threw their copies to the ground.
What bullshit theories! If they worked, how could their author be so useless?
Now the crowd had serious doubts about everything he had written.
"Friends, look at this line: 'Innate Soul Power is directly proportional to the quality of a Martial Soul. The higher one's Innate Soul Power, the stronger the Martial Soul's foundation.' Isn't that obvious? Does he think we're all fools who don't know that?"
"Damn, now that you mention it, you're right. How is that original research? It's all stating the obvious."
"And here's something even more absurd. He says Martial Souls fall into two categories, Beast Martial Souls and Tool Martial Souls. What about Plant-type Martial Souls? My friend's Martial Soul is a ball of fire. Which category does that belong to?"
"This part is ridiculous too. His theory on maximum Soul Ring absorption ages gives precise limits for ordinary people: 423 years for the first Soul Ring, 764 for the second..."
"I want to know how you arrived at those exact numbers. What evidence supports them? You can't have used yourself as the standard—that wouldn't be reasonable. You're useless, but other people aren't. Are you saying I couldn't withstand a 424-year first Soul Ring and would explode if I tried? What a load of nonsense."
"Damn it, he thinks we're all idiots. 'A Soul Master can absorb a Soul Ring only after personally hunting and killing the Soul Beast.' That counts as a theory? Come on, that's common knowledge! Who gave you the nerve to claim it as your own?"
As the crowd read more carefully, they pointed out flaw after flaw.
Some claims were common knowledge, others lacked evidence, and still others were sheer nonsense.
On closer inspection, these theories amounted to nothing.
"I've found another problem. I've seen some of these theories somewhere before. That's right—in a book at home."
"Damn, this guy plagiarized! Look at these theories. Don't they seem familiar?"
"Right, I've seen them too, in that book. They really are the same."
"Damn it. Making things up was bad enough, but he's passing off someone else's work as his own. What a rotten person."
"Fuck him! He's a shameless plagiarist. Your Highness, where did you find this scumbag?"
As the plagiarism came to light, the crowd cursed furiously, itching to rush up and tear Yu Xiaogang limb from limb.
Seeing their anger, Yu Xiaogang hurried to explain.
"Everyone, listen to me. I really didn't plagiarize. I came up with these ideas myself. Some of them do lack a little evidence, but I conducted research. They shouldn't be wrong."
"Please believe me. I wouldn't do anything to harm you."
His explanation only made the crowd angrier.
"What? You want us to test your theories? Damn, you're treating us like experimental subjects!"
"Shit, so that's why he gave the books away for free. He was looking for lab rats."
"That bastard wants to use everyone in the world as his test subjects. Who does he think he is?"
"Ah, I can't take it anymore. Let's beat the bastard!"
P.S. Dear readers, please vote and show your support. Give me a little motivation to write an even more miserable fate for Yu Xiaogang.
