Background / History
Bei Bei’s protection
Mu En regards Bei Bei as his only successor and has invested heavily in his future. He also considers Zhang Lexuan a prospective bride raised for Bei Bei. Rather than allowing Bei Bei to hunt Soul Beasts unprotected, he assigns a Shadow Guard to watch over him without revealing their presence 24.
That surveillance gives Mu En information about the Star Dou Great Forest incident, but not the full truth. The guard remains focused on Bei Bei and does not follow Lin Chen and Tang Ya during their private departure. The later battle between Madara and Di Tian also prevents Mu En’s observers from approaching closely 25 27.
Investigation of Tang Ya
Tang Ya’s rapid rise from Soul Elder to Soul Emperor prompts Mu En to convene an emergency Sea God Pavilion meeting. He repeatedly probes her for an evil aura but finds none. Seeking an explanation, he agrees to Lin Chen’s price for answering questions: a bottle of Mystic Water Pill and three Spirit-Raising Pills 24 25.
When Yan Shaozhe rejects Lin Chen’s account and pressures him, Mu En intervenes. He rebukes Shaozhe’s rashness and confirms that the described battle occurred, identifying the blood Tang Ya absorbed as Di Tian’s. He also warns the elders that Di Tian survived because a stronger being rescued him 26.
Mu En then swears upon his soul that Shrek will not harm Tang Ya, even if her Martial Soul proves evil. He examines her dragon-type mutation under his Sacred Dragon’s holy light and orders Gong Changlong to bring Soul Beasts for a feeding test. Tang Ya devours dozens without displaying an evil aura or losing control, leading Mu En to declare her Martial Soul righteous 27.
His judgment is mistaken: Lin Chen has concealed Tang Ya’s corruption with his Soul-Guiding Lamp. Mu En does not know that her apparent freedom from harmful side effects depends on Lin Chen’s intervention 11 24 29.
Recruitment and succession planning
Lin Chen’s criticism of Shrek’s treatment of talented students leaves Mu En angry but unable to refute the accusations. Mu En responds by overriding objections and granting Tang Ya direct admission to the inner court 28 29.
His offer includes powerful Soul Beasts for her to devour and a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring whenever she becomes capable of absorbing one—even if that is her seventh ring. He also accepts her condition that Shrek help rebuild the Tang Sect and support her pursuit of revenge for her parents 29.
Mu En hopes Tang Ya can become another Limit Douluo before his death. He believes he can endure several more years, potentially ten if he pushes himself. Before closing the investigation, he questions who helped obtain her rings and is visibly shocked by Lin Chen’s hundred-thousand-year fourth Soul Ring 29.
Star Rail Escort Agency assault
When Silver Wolf’s domain spreads through Shrek, Mu En discovers that the intruders have bypassed the Sea God’s Heart’s detection. He flies toward the playground in his wheelchair, only to be intercepted by Phainon, who openly identifies the operation as a murder contract 37.
Despite the difference between Mu En’s level 99 cultivation and Phainon’s level 95, Phainon’s superior dragon Martial Soul suppresses Mu En’s Sacred Dragon. Mu En’s attacks fail against layered shields, reflected damage, healing, and domain suppression 41.
Phainon’s Genesis Dragon Breath destroys Mu En’s Martial Soul Avatar and leaves him unable to move. Neither the Golden Ancient Tree’s support nor the replica Sea God’s Heart prevents his defeat. Phainon then strikes his Sea of Consciousness, knocking him unconscious before the attackers complete their mission against Zhou Yi 42 43.
Appearance
Mu En has a hunched, decrepit body that makes him appear close to death, contrasted with unusually bright, penetrating eyes. During combat, he remains seated in a wheelchair surrounded by golden holy light 25 41.
- Wheelchair: Serves as his seat and can be propelled through the air using Soul Power 37.
- Martial Soul possession: Covers his body in golden dragon scales 41.
- Dragon projection: A Sacred Dragon phantom appears behind him when he releases his Martial Soul 27 41.
Personality
Mu En usually exercises authority calmly. He can silence the pavilion with a few taps on the table, accepts bargaining when it helps obtain information, and corrects Yan Shaozhe for dismissing testimony without evidence 25 26.
His concern for talent is closely tied to Shrek’s future. Tang Ya’s background, connection to the Tang Sect, and potential to become a Limit Douluo persuade him to make exceptional concessions. His protection of Bei Bei is similarly intensive and extends to secret surveillance 24 29.
That composure has limits. Lin Chen’s public criticism wounds his institutional pride, and Mu En privately anticipates allowing Yan Shaozhe to target Lin Chen after enrollment. He also overestimates Shrek’s security, reassuring the elders that an unknown powerhouse must still be only a Limit Douluo—a conclusion Lin Chen privately rejects 27 28 29.
Abilities & Skills
Radiant Sacred Dragon
A dragon Martial Soul associated with golden holy light, powerful draconic pressure, and evil-breaking effects. It supports both bodily possession and a full dragon avatar 27 41 42.
- Its holy light is used to examine Tang Ya for signs of evil cultivation 27.
- Mu En’s documented ring configuration is yellow, yellow, purple, black, black, black, red, red, red 41.
- Phainon’s Radiant Light Dragon Emperor suppresses it at the Martial Soul level, overriding Mu En’s cultivation advantage 41 42.
Dragon combat techniques
- Dragon Emperor Evil-Breaking Slash — Releases golden, dragon-shaped sword energy specialized in breaking evil spirits 41.
- Dragon Emperor Domain-Shaking Realm — Produces a circular Soul Power shockwave with evil-breaking suppression 41.
- Dragon God Emergence — Summons a massive Sacred Dragon from beneath the ground, binding the target and reducing its Martial Soul power by 50% 41.
- Dragon Origin Tide — Combines four differently colored elemental forces into a destructive storm 41.
- Martial Soul Avatar — Assumes a Sacred Dragon form for direct combat; Phainon ultimately shatters this avatar 41 42.
Sovereign’s Descent
Mu En’s self-created battle skill combines physical and spiritual attacks through a golden dragon phantom. He considers it his proudest technique 41.
- Induces submission and powerlessness in a struck opponent.
- Disrupts the target’s combat rhythm.
- Fails to overcome Phainon’s defenses 41.
Spiritual perception and intelligence
Mu En combines personal aura examination with information gathered by covert protectors 24 25 26.
- Repeatedly checks Tang Ya for an evil aura 25.
- Possesses enough intelligence to confirm Di Tian’s defeat and subsequent rescue 26.
- Cannot detect the corruption concealed by Lin Chen’s lamp, and his observers do not uncover Lin Chen’s private actions 24 25 27.
Physical limitations
- Depleted blood Qi restricts his ordinary combat strength to approximately level 98, even with external support 41.
- During Phainon’s finishing attack, his exhausted vitality leaves him unable to wield even 30% of his level 99 strength 42.
- He retains his Limit Douluo cultivation, but cannot consistently express its full power 41 42.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Wheelchair — Mu En channels Soul Power through it for flight. Phainon’s final attack destroys half of it 37 42.
- Replica Sea God’s Heart — A pseudo-divine artifact used for detection and combat enhancement. It fails to detect the attackers’ infiltration 37 42.
- Golden Ancient Tree support — Provides aid from Shrek’s past sages during battle; it is external support rather than a carried item 41 42.
Relationships
- Bei Bei — His only successor, whom he secretly protects through the Shadow Guard 24.
- Zhang Lexuan — Regarded by Mu En as a prospective bride raised for Bei Bei 24.
- Yan Shaozhe — His disciple. Mu En rebukes his rash interrogation but later privately anticipates letting him retaliate against Lin Chen 26 29.
- Tang Ya — A recruitment and succession prospect. Mu En clears her of suspected evil cultivation and authorizes exceptional inner-court support 27 29.
- Lin Chen — An unusually talented recruit whose bargaining and criticism provoke Mu En’s resentment. Mu En remains unaware of his role in concealing Tang Ya’s corruption 25 28 29.
- Phainon — His opponent during the Star Rail Escort Agency assault. Phainon defeats him without entering his Release State and leaves him unconscious 37 41 42.
