Background / History

Ning Fengzhi placed Ning Haitian in charge of the Seven Treasure Trading Company’s North Sea City branch because he considered him untalented, unambitious, and without malice—a suitable administrator for an unobtrusive posting. Before reporting Mo An’s arrival, Haitian had previously written to the sect master about a Thousand-Year Soul Bone appearing in the city 14.

Recruiting Mo An

Mo An secured a personal meeting with Ning Haitian by presenting Copper Essence, an Ice-Pattern Snow Lotus, and three other treasures. Haitian initially assumed that the plainly dressed boy was a talented commoner seeking connections and cultivation resources. He agreed to hear him out, recognizing that recommending a promising recruit could also earn him a reward 12.

Mo An’s claim of Innate Full Soul Power startled Haitian into spraying out his tea. He checked the boy’s age by examining his arm bones, then tested his Soul Power with a crystal ball capable of measuring up to level thirty. The result—level thirteen at six years old—convinced him that Mo An was an exceptional prospect 13.

Haitian immediately sent an urgent, encoded report to Ning Fengzhi through the trading company’s fastest retained Soul Master. He offered Mo An accommodation, cultivation resources, and professional assistance in selecting a First Soul Ring. Mo An declined the lodging and explained that he had already chosen a Wishful Vine 13.

Arranging the Sect Master’s Visit

While awaiting Ning Fengzhi, Haitian secretly instructed trusted subordinates to investigate Mo An. Their report covered his Martial Soul, cultivation, Soul Ring plans, life with Uncle Fu, apparent resentment toward Spirit Hall, and concealment of his true talent during academy registration 15.

Whale-Rubber Procurement

Haitian initially doubted that whale rubber could strengthen the body, since he had used it himself without noticing that effect. When Ning Fengzhi asked him to fetch samples, he recognized the request as a tactful dismissal. Although he already carried whale rubber in his Storage Soul Tool, he left rather than produce it immediately and intrude on the private discussion 16.

He returned about half an hour later with samples of different ages. Ning Fengzhi rewarded his successful recommendation by inviting him back to Heaven Dou City and entrusting him with an important business venture: acquiring whale rubber while restricting knowledge of its cultivation benefits 17.

He is tactful about his modest standing within the main clan. Rather than seek access to every secret, he deliberately withdraws from sensitive discussions, believing that knowing too much would not benefit him. He readily accepts the opportunity to return to Heaven Dou City, having never wanted to remain in North Sea City’s bitter cold 17.
