Background / History
Dugu Bo occupied the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well for years without knowing its name or the precise uses of many herbs growing there. Its unusual ice-and-fire field suppressed the Jade Scale Snake Poison inside him, sustaining his life and helping his poison arts reach their existing strength 26 27 28.
His family suffered from the same poison. His son and daughter-in-law died from it, while his granddaughter, Dugu Yan, was born afflicted. Protecting her—and preventing the same fate for later descendants—became his strongest reason to seek treatment 28.
During an earlier search for Immortal Herbs, the Azure Bamboo, Breaking Clan, and other families associated with the Clear Sky Sect fought him near the valley. The Breaking Clan’s direct combat strength nearly overcame him, but his poison disabled its fighters and secured his victory 27.
Encounter with Mo An
Ning Fengzhi, Sword Douluo, and Mo An approached his secluded territory seeking its treasures. Dugu Bo initially rejected their courtesies and directed a Titled Douluo’s killing intent at Mo An. He withdrew when Sword Douluo intervened, recognizing that he could not defeat Sword Douluo with Ning Fengzhi supporting him 26 27.
Mo An gained his attention with accurate information about the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower and a toxin-amplifying swan-shaped Immortal Herb. Their private discussion changed when Mo An offered both stronger poison arts and a treatment for Dugu Bo’s inherited poisoning. Dugu Bo agreed to surrender the Well if the proposed treatment worked 27 28.
Treatment and Alliance
Dugu Bo escorted Mo An into the valley and watched over him as he consumed the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot. While Mo An absorbed their power, Dugu Bo tested the swan herb’s toxin-amplifying properties 29 30.
After emerging from the spring, Mo An supplied more than two hundred crude pills containing his newly poison-resistant blood. Dugu Bo initially complained about the garden’s harvesting and doubted the medicine, but accepted the bargain once a pill suppressed his poison and enabled its transfer into his Soul Bone 31.
He thanked Mo An, promised future assistance, and supplied additional storage space for the harvested herbs. After returning Mo An safely to Soul Hunting Town, he went back to the Well to continue treatment and prepare stronger poison for his longstanding enemy, Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan 32.
Appearance
Dugu Bo is tall and lean, with a javelin-like build and an unkempt appearance 26.
- Hair and beard: Dark green; his hair is tangled 26.
- Eyes: Emerald green, with pupils that narrow into vertical slits when he becomes threatening 26 28.
- Face: Sunken cheeks and a corpse-like expression 26 27.
- Clothing: A plain gray robe 26.
Personality
Dugu Bo is reclusive, blunt, suspicious, and impatient with formal courtesies. He openly interrupts Ning Fengzhi and threatens Mo An rather than entertaining a request he considers beneath him. Nevertheless, he understands his limits and backs down when Sword Douluo makes the consequences of violence clear 26 27.
His interest in poisons and rare herbs can overturn his hostility almost immediately. Once Mo An demonstrates useful knowledge, Dugu Bo eagerly seeks answers; when offered a credible treatment, he begs for help despite his status 27 28.
His gratitude is direct rather than ceremonial. He acknowledges Mo An’s help without treating their difference in age or strength as an obstacle, and insists on repaying the favor even when Mo An calls their exchange an even trade. With Mo An, he also develops a teasing streak, contrasting with his continued discomfort around outsiders such as Ning Fengzhi 31 32.
Abilities & Skills
Poison Arts
Dugu Bo uses potent poison offensively and to protect his secluded territory 26 27.
- Maintains a poison formation and dark green poisonous mist around the canyon 26 29.
- Disabled the Breaking Clan’s fighters with poison when direct combat threatened to defeat him 27.
- Can create and experimentally modify poisons, including testing toxin-amplified substances on living subjects 30.
- His poison’s potential for widespread devastation makes provoking him politically and practically dangerous 23.
Titled Douluo Power
His presence and killing intent can overwhelm a Soul Scholar, but stronger Titled Douluo can counter him 27.
- Flies while carrying Mo An between the valley and Soul Hunting Town 29 32.
- Uses Soul Power to draw objects through the air 27.
- Cannot realistically challenge Sword Douluo backed by Ning Fengzhi’s support 27.
Jade Scale Snake Poison Treatment
Mo An’s pills temporarily suppress Dugu Bo’s internal poison, creating an opportunity to relocate it into his Soul Bone 31.
- Successfully transfers a small amount on his first documented attempt 31.
- Continues the process through repeated doses rather than receiving an immediate complete cure 32.
- Intends to pass the method down so his descendants can avoid fatal poisoning 28.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Soul Bone — Used to store poison redirected from his body; its type and location are not specified 28 31.
- Wishful Hundred Treasures Pouch — A sachet-shaped Storage Soul Tool previously used by Dugu Bo. He supplies it to Mo An when the Azure Jade Ring becomes nearly full; its capacity is three times that of the ring 32.
- Iron gourd of medicinal pills — Contains more than two hundred blood-based pills prepared by Mo An, intended as a long-term supply for poison suppression 31.
- Snow-Colored Swan Kiss — Left for Dugu Bo after Mo An harvests the other Immortal Herbs. Amplifies existing toxins rather than being poisonous itself; contact remains dangerous while Dugu Bo is internally poisoned 28 31.
Relationships
- Dugu Yan — Granddaughter. Her inherited poisoning motivates him to surrender the Well in exchange for a treatment method 28.
- Mo An — Initially a threatened intruder, later his treatment provider and ally. Dugu Bo calls him “Little Monster,” promises future help, and offers to capture a Soul Beast for his First Soul Ring 27 30 32.
- Ning Fengzhi — Previously rejected his recruitment attempt. Remains distant toward him, although Ning considers Dugu Bo someone who keeps his word 29 32.
- Sword Douluo Chen Xin — A stronger opponent whose intervention prevents Dugu Bo from intimidating Mo An 27.
- Prince Xue Xing — Imperial affiliation that complicates any attempt by the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to attack him 23.
- Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan — Longstanding enemy who has beaten him before. Dugu Bo plans to retaliate using amplified Jade Scale Snake Poison 32.
