Chapter 874: Love Her
Hesta lay down on the bench, half-closing her eyes. "Maybe I just like meddling in other people's business."
Yu Xuekun looked at her. "What have you been doing this week?"
"Nothing new... Oh, there was one thing." Hesta suddenly remembered. "A while ago, I promised Ksenia I'd definitely go see their adaptation of Dagger and Sheath next month. But yesterday, they received word that Dagger and Sheath had been banned from being restaged because it involved a sensitive group. Sensitive group... you understand."
Yu Xuekun's expression shifted slightly. "What's your feeling? Has anyone started giving you trouble lately?"
"No," Hesta replied. "Honestly, I hate this feeling. No one has ever really come looking to cause me trouble. Maybe Zuo Wentao counted as one, but he always kept up that teacherly air. I know some people have been enduring more direct malice—when they go out, people graffiti their doors, tease and whistle at them on the street, insult them, follow them... Obviously, I have a Hesta person's face too. I have red hair too. I don't disguise myself at all. Yet those people who do evil never come looking for trouble with me... I know why. They don't dare."
Yu Xuekun looked at her.
"I realized I may never have understood what it felt like for Eucali to live in Orange Town, just like I can't understand how her mother could treat her that way... how she could allow her mother to treat her that way," Hesta said softly. "My mother would never have done that."
"If you were still living with your mother now, what do you think your relationship would be like? Have you thought about it?"
Hesta frowned faintly. She stared at the ceiling and remained silent for a long time.
"I don't know."
