Chapter 963: Companions
Hesta thought for a moment. "Did you come here because you wanted to conduct an investigation?"
"What's the point of talking about that now? Since Kendall is already there," Victoria said. "Why don't you discuss it with Office Number Two and have them transfer you somewhere else—"
"Do you still want to come?"
Victoria fell silent for a moment.
"What do you mean? You want to transfer me over? Give it up. That's impossible. District 12 isn't one of our priority work areas anymore. Quicksilver Needles at Kendall's and my level are unlikely to be assigned to the same region—not to mention you're still in the inspector's position."
"I'll figure something out," Hesta said quietly. "I'm only asking you this: if I really secure the opportunity, will you come?"
This time, Victoria unusually waited for Hesta to finish before speaking. "Then I'd be willing to drop everything I'm doing and come over—but what are you planning to do?"
"I can't access the Fayalar Wasteland files right now. Do you have a way?"
The other end of the call fell silent for a moment. "When do you need them?"
"As soon as possible."
At noon on Friday, Eucali ran toward the bus stop with her lunch.
She had already attended her first theory class that Wednesday—though even that so-called theory class had been theory in name only. The flight center's administrators had handed out a pile of materials, and she hadn't even caught a glimpse of an instructor.
She had raised her hand and asked when she would get to meet the instructor and touch an aircraft. The answer had been that the instructor would arrive on Friday, while no one knew about the aircraft.
