The scene took shape beneath Lu Yi's feet. In the blink of an eye, he stood once more before the Magic Library.
Three or four days had passed since Electrolux moved into the Library. As its master, Lu Yi had left him undisturbed out of respect.
He pushed open the Library's wooden door, revealing the bright, spacious interior.
The Library stood within Lu Yi's Sea of Consciousness, where day and night held no meaning. Inside, it was always bright.
Lu Yi made a circuit of the Library, wondering where Electrolux was, when a faintly detached voice sounded above him.
"Child, you've come."
A gray spirit slipped down through the gallery floor overhead and floated before Lu Yi. It was Electrolux.
Lu Yi smiled. "Elder Yi, have you settled in here?"
"Quite well. Compared with the wisp of a remnant soul I was before, being able to stay in this blessed place and keep my soul from dispersing is fortune enough. I ask for nothing more."
Electrolux's voice held neither sorrow nor joy. Lu Yi could not tell whether he had long since grown indifferent to everything in the world, or whether this space had affected him.
Still, Lu Yi felt that most of what Electrolux said was steeped in gloom.
That would not do. Lu Yi was counting on Electrolux to teach him a few things.
Elder Yi, you need to pull yourself together!
"Elder Yi, is something amiss?" Lu Yi adopted a similarly formal tone as he asked with concern.
"Nothing is amiss!"
Seeing how much Lu Yi cared, Electrolux's face showed an emotion Lu Yi could not quite name. "Child, would you care to hear where I came from?"
Delighted that Electrolux was willing to open up, Lu Yi nodded vigorously. "Of course!"
Electrolux inclined his head and began to recount his past.
Through Elder Yi's account, Lu Yi learned a great deal about the Holy Demon Continent, along with parts of Electrolux's life.
But Lu Yi already knew a little about him, and he noticed that Electrolux said nothing of the darkest time in his life, when he had suffered betrayal. Nor did he mention Necromancy or the title Holy Necromancer.
That was understandable. No powerful person willingly revealed his vulnerable side, and Electrolux was no exception. But why would he not even mention his abilities?
"...After I died, my immense soul power tore through space. Only then could a wisp of my divine soul cross between worlds and descend upon this one, where it eventually entered your Sea of Consciousness."
Electrolux finished his account, and Lu Yi, who had nodded along throughout, nodded once more.
Then Electrolux abruptly changed the subject. "Over the past few days, I have read many of the books in this Library. Is this the Magical World?"
Realizing that Electrolux had misunderstood, Lu Yi quickly shook his head.
"No, Elder Yi! This is only a fragment of my previous world left within my Sea of Consciousness..."
Lu Yi began explaining what he knew of the Douluo Continent and how it differed from the Magical World.
"...In fact, when you entered my Sea of Consciousness, I had only just arrived here myself!"
Electrolux seemed to understand, though even with all his knowledge, he could scarcely imagine what power had allowed Lu Yi to cross between worlds in the flesh.
He did not dwell on it. Helping Lu Yi grow stronger would benefit him as well.
"Child, I must say, it astonishes even me that people in your world can wield such power with mortal bodies." Appreciation showed in Electrolux's eyes, but his tone shifted. "How far have you progressed?"
Seeing Electrolux's attention turn from the powers of the two worlds to him, Lu Yi's eyes lit up. He hurried to a nearby shelf and took down more than a dozen books.
"Elder Yi, I've been in school for a year and studied the material from years one through three, including spells, Potions, Herbology, Transfiguration, and Magical Theory. I'm working through the fourth-year material now."
Yet Lu Yi showed no pride as he spoke. "I've only learned many spells at a basic level, though. Without a professor to guide me, my progress has slowed considerably."
Electrolux had looked through the books Lu Yi brought over. Lu Yi was undeniably diligent, and talented too.
Electrolux felt a stir of interest. He had once stood a single step from godhood, and naturally wanted to pass on his abilities.
But he had found the moral standards of Lu Yi's former world astonishing. Merely speaking of his Necromancy would see it condemned as the most evil of taboos.
That world had evil beings known as Dark Wizards, but compared with what he had once done, those Dark Wizards might as well have been saints.
Even when I was a child of light, I wasn't as virtuous as they were!
Electrolux could not help worrying that the moment Lu Yi heard the word "Necromancy," he would keep his distance.
In the end, Electrolux suppressed the urge to reveal his true identity. Instead, he nodded and said, "I have traveled far and wide and encountered many kinds of magic. I also have a modest understanding of what you are studying. If you wish, I would be so bold as to serve as something of a professor to you. What do you say?"
There was no chance Lu Yi would turn down Electrolux's offer.
When Lu Yi first met Electrolux, the idea had been little more than a wild fancy. He had never expected Electrolux to grasp wizarding magic just days later.
As for Electrolux's modesty, Lu Yi did not believe a word of it.
Wasn't Mu En, a peerless powerhouse and Limit Douluo, fond of spending every day in front of the dormitory building pretending to be the old caretaker?
Such figures might keep a low profile most of the time, but when they showed off, no one did it harder.
Lu Yi immediately bowed deeply to Electrolux. "Your student Lu Yi greets you, Professor!"
Straightening, Lu Yi looked at Elder Yi and found him more approachable than ever. Without wasting a word, he pulled the books on Potions and Herbology from the stack.
"Professor, I've run into a huge problem."
Lu Yi opened one of the books, his face troubled. "Brewing potions requires specific ingredients. The Douluo Continent has all sorts of living things, and many are the same as those in my world, but plenty of ingredients are missing too. Without key ingredients, potion-making becomes useless knowledge. What can I do?"
Lu Yi had previously bought more than a dozen volumes of the Plant Compendium published by the bookstore. They covered everything from annual weeds to the mightiest plants capable of becoming Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts.
Despite how comprehensive the books were, he had still been unable to find some of the herbs required for potions.
Electrolux was not at all surprised by Lu Yi's question.
Many of the strange creatures and plants illustrated in the potion books were unfamiliar to him as well.
And he knew nothing at all about the Douluo Continent.
Here, however, the knowledge Electrolux had gained from his travels came into play.
Electrolux smiled, and the image of a plant appeared in his palm.
"Every potion ingredient has its own complex properties. Those strict preparation steps merely remove the properties you do not need, stabilizing the final effect."
Electrolux paused. The plant's image in his palm changed into a mushroom.
"But countless things in this world share similar properties. Tell me, what do this plant and this mushroom have in common?"
"They... both have a powerful hallucinogenic effect?"
Lu Yi sounded uncertain, but the moment he said it, inspiration burst through his mind. Electrolux did not need to give him another hint.
"I understand!"
