Mu En, however, was surprised by the change in Lu Yi. He called him over and laid a withered hand on him.

Mu En closed his eyes and felt carefully. Then he gave a slight nod, murmured in acknowledgment, and withdrew his hand.

Lu Yi merely smiled and nodded without answering.

Mu En waved him off. "Go on, see to your business. Let this old man enjoy a little more sun."

Lu Yi cupped his hands in farewell and went straight back to the dormitory.

When he saw the yellowing leaves and half-dead plants in several flowerpots, he hurried to water them.

These were herbs grown from the few seeds he had brought with him. The plants themselves were not what mattered; he needed to wait for them to produce more seeds.

Only then would he have enough seeds to expand his planting and stockpile the materials needed to make Potions.

Just then, Zhou Sichen returned to the dormitory. He started forward to throw an arm around Lu Yi, but stopped short and looked him up and down.
