Background / History
Meeting Lin Hao
Tie Lei meets Lin Hao after the latter joins the Ye Family caravan bound for Heaven Dou City. Assuming that the talented newcomer wants to court Ye Lingling, he teases Lin Hao about his intentions—only to discover that Lin Hao does not even know who she is. He explains the family’s reputation for healing and credits its head with giving him and his fellow guards a livelihood 20.
Caravan Ambush
During a bandit ambush, Lin Hao pulls the stunned Tie Lei aside just before an arrow strikes his seat. When the bandit leader, Man Xiong, subsequently demands Ye Lingling along with the caravan’s goods, Tie Lei charges him with a blood-red saber. His attack inspires the remaining guards to fight, creating an opportunity for Han Che to attempt an escape with Ye Lingling 20 21.
Man Xiong knocks Tie Lei away with a palm strike. Ye Lingling heals the surviving defenders, while Lin Hao cuts down bandits and eases the pressure on Tie Lei before killing their leader 21.
Arrival in Heaven Dou City
After the battle, Tie Lei banters with Lin Hao and encourages him to pursue Ye Lingling. The caravan reaches Heaven Dou City safely two days later. Lin Hao departs after declining further rewards, and Tie Lei drives Ye Lingling home toward East Alley 22 23.
Personality
Tie Lei is good-natured and outspoken, readily teasing Lin Hao and offering unsolicited romantic encouragement. His matchmaking also reflects concern for the Ye Family: he considers an apparently unaffiliated young talent a safer partner for Ye Lingling than a powerful noble heir whose family might absorb the Ye Family’s holdings 20 22.
His gratitude toward his employer is matched by courage under pressure. Although he initially welcomes the prospect of surrendering the cargo peacefully, Man Xiong’s threat against Ye Lingling drives him to attack a stronger opponent 20 21.
