Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Two-Tomoe Sharingan 8 Reveals his awakened Sharingan to Shinji after a B-rank mission with Itachi. Admits that Itachi remains stronger in their sparring matches.
Three-Tomoe Sharingan 162 Uses the three-tomoe eyes to cast Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique against Itachi; Itachi overpowers the genjutsu.
Mangekyō Sharingan 163 194 213 An ocular-power burst follows his resistance to Tsukuyomi. The Mangekyō is explicitly shown later, and Nobihi explains its four effects to Shinji and Shisui.
Cell fusion and reinforced chakra pathways 273 Hashirama cells damage his tissues; Shinji’s modified cells and the Chimera Technique help reconstruct stronger, wider meridians.
Provisional golden Rinnegan emergence 273 His left eye ruptures and his body withers. An injection of Shinji’s post–Ten-Tails genetic extract restores his body, followed by dark-golden ocular rings; the glow subsequently fades.
Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan 274 Awakens during the fusion experiment while retaining consciousness and recognizing Shinji. Orochimaru attributes the evolution to the completion or unification of Uchiha genes.
Golden left Rinnegan and purple right Rinnegan 275 Awakens two differently colored Rinnegan as the nutrient chamber breaks apart.
Six-Tomoe Purple Rinnegan; incomplete Six Paths power 276 Shinji identifies six tomoe in the purple eye. Nobihi’s Six Paths power still lacks complete Yin–Yang power, and his emerging forehead eye remains an empty shell.
Six Paths Mode with seven Truth-Seeking Orbs 278 Uses Yatagarasu: Divine Crossing, black chakra flames, and orb armor. His full-strength attack breaks Shinji’s Susanoo armor but rapidly consumes chakra and life force.
Chakra Fruit enhancement 279 Receives and eats the fruit intended as his birthday present. Shinji says it will let him control his transformed body and fully wield the Rinnegan.
Nine Truth-Seeking Orbs; Kekkei Mōra 282 Emerges from surgery with nine agile orbs. Shinji judges that his developing Yin–Yang power means he has attained Kekkei Mōra; Nobihi can also deactivate the golden Rinnegan.
Garuda: Yata Flame Dance 295 Demonstrates a temporary ocular-power boost with black flames, nine-orb armor, and wings. Overwhelms Obito even after Obito absorbs the God Tree.

Background / History

Nobihi graduated from the Academy in the same year as Itachi despite being a year older. Mikoto described him as hardworking and urged Shinji to stop treating him like a small child. His family had previously saved members of Fugaku’s household, according to what Mikoto told Sasuke 1 10.

After a B-rank mission with Itachi, Nobihi returned home and cooked for Shinji. Proud of his two-tomoe Sharingan, he hoped for his brother’s approval, but Shinji dismissed his progress and questioned his trust in Itachi. Nobihi defended his friend and refused to disclose Itachi’s eye development 8.

His relationship with Itachi later deteriorated into hatred. Nobihi threatened to kill him, prompting Shinji to seize him by the throat and rebuke him for threatening someone he had grown up with in front of Mikoto. Shinji subsequently arranged special training and ordered Nobihi to prepare for a long mission to the Land of Rain 45 46.

Nobihi eventually sought answers about Itachi and his older brother’s concealed actions. When reunited with Shinji, however, his questions gave way to excitement about his own achievements. Shinji praised him, accepted Shisui’s endorsement, and inducted him into Dawn as its Second Seat, Yazi 194 213.

Shinji later arranged a dangerous Chimera Technique procedure to strengthen Nobihi’s body. Orochimaru and Hiruko conducted the experiment, combining cellular inheritances that produced successive ocular evolutions and a temporary Ōtsutsuki-like appearance. Shinji remained beside the nutrient chamber through the critical stages 229 271 273 274 275 276.

Appearance

Nobihi is described as a clean-cut boy with black hair, heavy brows, and a fierce expression. His fusion procedure temporarily alters his coloring and features, but his natural skin and black hair return before he leaves the laboratory 219 274 276.

  • Mangekyō pattern: Four scalpel-like shapes rotate within the eye 278 295.
  • Mismatched Rinnegan: Golden in the left eye and purple with six tomoe in the right 275 276.
  • Forehead mark: A slit-like opening develops between his brows, containing an unfinished eye structure 276.
  • Temporary fusion changes: Deathly pale skin, forehead bumps, altered facial features, and lengthened hair appear during the experiment 274 276.
  • Empowered combat form: Black chakra flames surround close-fitting, obsidian-like Truth-Seeking Orb armor; Garuda: Yata Flame Dance adds black wings 278 295.

Personality

Nobihi initially combines diligence with an openly childlike desire for Shinji’s praise. He cooks for his brother, celebrates Shinji becoming clan head, and treasures gifts from him. He is also loyal to friends: even under Shinji’s questioning, he refuses to reveal Itachi’s secrets and insists that Itachi is considerate rather than manipulative 8 22 72 214.

His later hostility conceals deep insecurity about being unable to protect others. Itachi’s Tsukuyomi exploits this through visions of Izumi, Fugaku, Mikoto, Sasuke, and Shinji dying. During his spar with Shinji, Nobihi finally states that he resents being left behind and treated as a burden while his brother shapes major events alone 162 278.

Nobihi can be vindictive and brutally aggressive. He tortures Kisame to hurt Itachi and repeatedly seeks to kill Obito. Shinji nevertheless interprets his earlier ruthlessness as a survival mask; once Nobihi gains overwhelming strength, that defensive posture becomes pride and arrogance 160 219 277.

His new power also exposes a willingness to dominate those he considers beneath him. In the Land of Iron, he humiliates the nobility, attacks Shisui, and attempts to replace negotiation with forced submission. After Shinji confronts him, Nobihi expresses confusion over his behavior, apologizes, and accepts Shisui’s reminder that strength must not erase his identity or relationships 283 284 285.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Genjutsu

  • Uses Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique through his three-tomoe Sharingan 162.
  • Resists Itachi’s psychological assault sufficiently to awaken and launch a devastating counterattack, though the ensuing ocular-power use leaves him unconscious 163.
  • Can retain or return to his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan instead of continuously displaying his purple Rinnegan 278.
  • Limit: His Rinnegan does not make him immune to genjutsu. Shinji’s Mirror Flower, Water Moon completely hypnotizes him when he lacks the chakra to resist 279.

Underworld Crossing: Resurrection Nail

His left Mangekyō eye provides an equivalent-exchange ability with two effects 213.

  • Underworld Crossing: Restores sight lost through dōjutsu overuse by randomly sacrificing smell, taste, touch, or hearing 213.
  • Resurrection Nail: Nobihi believes it can regenerate severed limbs and potentially lost eyes, even from extreme bodily injury. He admits that he has not tested its full extent 213.
  • Cost: Each use of Resurrection Nail removes one of his emotions 213.

Yatagarasu

  • Briefly makes his body intangible so that physical attacks pass through him 213.
  • Nobihi explicitly distinguishes this effect from Obito’s space-time technique; Shinji accepts that it is not Kamui 213.

Instant Bone

  • Delivers one strike at what Nobihi describes as “a hundred times the strength of my body’s tenfold limit” 213.
  • Used to cripple Obito with a kick and force him to retreat 175 213.
  • Limit: The strength boost applies to only one strike 213.
  • Counter: Raw striking power cannot bypass Kamui’s intangibility; a later kick passes directly through Obito 219.

Rinnegan: Time and Space

Shinji identifies distinct specialties in Nobihi’s two Rinnegan, while noting that their complete set of unique techniques remains unknown 277.

  • Golden left eye — time: Inherits Urashiki’s command of time and creates localized fluctuations that help Nobihi land unexpected blows 277.
  • Purple six-tomoe right eye — space: Opens a pixelated doorway through which Nobihi escapes Heavenly Rock Cave 277.
  • Origin of the purple eye: Shinji attributes its awakening to the combination of Indra’s and Asura’s chakra, distinguishing it from the golden eye’s Urashiki-derived evolution 278.
  • Yomotsu Hirasaka: Opens a spatial passage to reposition behind Obito during combat 295.
  • Amenominaka Star Dance: A barrage launched after his spatial escape; Shinji uses Ultra Instinct Senjutsu to evade most of it 277.
  • Eye control: The purple Rinnegan can revert to the Eternal Mangekyō; the golden eye remains active after his first post-spar recovery, but can be deactivated following further enhancement 278 279 282.

Repulsive Force and Black Rods

  • Releases repulsive force that crushes mountains and collapses terrain across a kilometer-wide area 277.
  • Pulls the Land of Iron’s nobles to the floor, then demolishes the Daimyō’s palace with a repulsive blast 284.
  • Uses Yin–Yang Release Black Rods to pin Shisui and suppress his chakra 284 285.
  • Limit: His large-scale repulsion fails to stop Shinji’s approaching black tomoe during their spar 277.

Six Paths Power and Truth-Seeking Orbs

  • Initially manifests seven Truth-Seeking Orbs, shaping them into blades or armor resembling a miniature Susanoo 277 278.
  • Yatagarasu: Divine Crossing: Combines black chakra flames, orb armor, and an attack that tears space and appears to slow time while locking onto Shinji 278.
  • Breaks Shinji’s tightly fitted Susanoo armor during their collision 278.
  • After eating the Chakra Fruit and receiving further treatment, controls nine Truth-Seeking Orbs and displays increasingly complete Yin–Yang power 279 282.
  • Garuda: Yata Flame Dance: Temporarily amplifies his ocular power and forms winged, full-body armor from nine orbs 295.
  • Initial limit: His reserves are insufficient to sustain his fused powers. Prolonged exertion drains his life force and causes widespread bleeding 278 279.

Conventional Ninja Skills

  • Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall: Blocks Itachi’s Water Dragon Bullet Technique 162.
  • Uchiha Style: Shuriken Manipulation: Uses wires to redirect grounded shuriken toward an opponent’s back 162.
  • Throwing techniques: Proudly reports major improvement to Shinji before his Dawn induction 213.
  • Swordsmanship and taijutsu: Trades blows with Kisame using Steel Cutter, kicks him backward, and later defeats him 157 160.
  • Great Fireball Technique: Learned from Shisui 285.
  • Threat detection: Notices danger before Kakashi during the journey back toward the Land of Fire 174.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Steel Cutter — Tachi wielded against Kisame and Itachi. Kisame’s initial pressure bends the blade slightly, but Nobihi later uses it to sever Kisame’s arm 157 160.
  • Sword from Shinji — A treasured gift described as superior to the ninja blades carried by many Uchiha jōnin 72.
  • Shuriken, wire, and finger rings — Used together for Uchiha-style weapon manipulation 162.
  • Flying Thunder God kunai — Given by Shinji to maintain communication over any distance while the technique is active. Nobihi carefully cleans and stores it 214.
  • Dawn garment — Presented with his appointment as Second Seat—Yazi 213.
  • Chakra Fruit — Originally intended as a birthday present; given early to help stabilize and fully utilize his transformed body 229 279.

Relationships

  • Shinji Uchiha — Older brother, trainer, and Dawn leader. Nobihi seeks his approval but resents being excluded from important struggles. Shinji supports his transformation and later confronts his abuse of power 8 46 213 278 285.
  • Shisui Uchiha — Longtime mentor who taught him the Great Fireball Technique and gave him his first iron kunai. Shisui supports his Dawn induction and continues guiding him even after Nobihi injures him 213 285.
  • Itachi Uchiha — Academy contemporary, former mission partner, and childhood friend. Their bond becomes hostile, culminating in a fight and Tsukuyomi assault, although Nobihi subsequently intervenes against Obito to save him 1 8 160 162 175.
  • Izumi Uchiha — Childhood friend whose apparent death becomes a focus of Nobihi’s grief. He reacts sharply when Shisui mentions her and reunites with her in the Land of Iron 162 214 283 284.
  • Mikoto Uchiha — An affectionate elder whom Shinji calls Aunt Mikoto. She praises Nobihi’s diligence; her dying image in Tsukuyomi deeply wounds him 1 45 162.
  • Fugaku Uchiha — Clan elder. Nobihi’s later dismissal of him by name becomes part of Shinji’s reprimand, which forces him to acknowledge Fugaku as “Uncle Fugaku” 285.
  • Kakashi Hatake — Senior teammate. Nobihi displays early dislike toward him, later travels alongside him, and grows strong enough that Kakashi acknowledges the difference between them 72 74 174.
  • Uzuki Yugao — Teammate and traveling companion. She challenges his refusal to return to the village but accompanies his search for answers 174 194.
  • Orochimaru and Hiruko — Researchers responsible for his Chimera Technique modification. They monitor his unstable evolution and record his subsequent combat performance 229 271 273 277.
  • Obito Uchiha — Repeated enemy. Nobihi cripples him before his major transformation, fails against Kamui in a later encounter, and eventually overwhelms his God Tree-enhanced form 175 219 295.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Battlefield Experience and Orochimaru’s Attack

  • Joins the squad traveling toward the Border of the Three Countries. Shinji warns him that Kakashi’s restraint may have saved him during a recent fight 76.
  • Rashly pursues a snake-based decoy during Orochimaru’s attack; Shinji recognizes that the apparent attacker is only a clone 76.
  • Later fights alongside Kakashi, Yugao, and Anko against an Iwagakure scouting party near Kannabi Bridge. His questions about the bridge’s strategic purpose make Kakashi suspect that he is withholding a larger idea 136.

Conflict with Itachi and Kisame

  • Confronts Kisame, becomes enraged at a comparison with Itachi, and eventually tortures him as a means of hurting his former friend 157 160.
  • Battles Itachi using earth defenses, wire-guided shuriken, and visual genjutsu before being trapped in Tsukuyomi 162.
  • Resists the illusion and unleashes a forest-devastating attack that badly injures both Akatsuki members, then collapses 163.
  • Later saves Itachi from Obito, despite continuing to express hostility toward Itachi during their return journey 174 175.

Dawn Membership and Transformation

  • Leaves his assigned task to investigate a lead in Takigakure and seek answers from Shinji 194.
  • Earns Dawn membership after revealing his Mangekyō and reporting his victory over Obito 213.
  • Undergoes cellular fusion, then immediately asks to test his new strength against Shinji 271 273 274 275 276.
  • Turns the spar into a desperate demand for recognition. Shinji ends it with hypnosis, revives him with Creation Power, and gives him the Chakra Fruit 278 279.

Land of Iron Crisis

  • Is sent to assist Shisui under explicit orders to obey him and avoid impulsive action 282.
  • Rejects Shisui’s diplomatic approach, attacks the Daimyō’s court, destroys the palace, and immobilizes Shisui with Black Rods 283 284.
  • Stops short of killing the Daimyō but takes his seat and demands submission 284.
  • Apologizes after Shinji reminds him of his family and personal bonds. Shisui urges him to ask for help rather than let power dictate his identity 285.

Battle with God Tree-Enhanced Obito

  • Takes Shinji’s place against Obito and activates Garuda: Yata Flame Dance 295.
  • Strikes Obito before he can defend with a Truth-Seeking Orb, then uses Yomotsu Hirasaka to attack from behind 295.
  • Nearly finishes him, but obeys Shinji’s recall and releases him 295.

Trivia

  • Shinji explains Yazi as a fierce, battle-loving mythical beast that repays kindness and holds grudges, then remarks that the name unexpectedly suits Nobihi 214.
  • Nobihi awakens the Eternal Mangekyō before Shinji, amusing his older brother because it was once an eye Shinji desperately wanted 274.
  • Orochimaru’s account of the fusion research includes the expectation that it will grant Nobihi immortality; this is presented as a research outcome he anticipates, not a demonstrated feat 272.
  • Nobihi’s winged armor reminds Shinji of Aiacos of Garuda 295.
