Background / History
According to Liu Jieqi, the old woman’s inability to cultivate initially led her to marry and have two children. Her husband fell gravely ill and died, leaving her without support; she subsequently joined the Holy Spirit Cult and began cultivating at forty. Jieqi acknowledges that her knowledge of the cult’s rituals is secondhand rather than based on witnessing them herself 20.
The old woman later made an offering to Spider-Woman, awakening the spirit from an unconscious state within a magic array. Spider-Woman taught her how to use a modified curved saber to repair flesh and convert sacrifices into Soul Power. By their final encounter, the old woman had spent thirty years at the site 23.
The Holy Spirit Cult supplied her with a strengthened array and a means of controlling it. These restraints prevented Spider-Woman from attacking her contractor or leaving the cellar, even after the spirit became much stronger than the old woman 23 24.
Appearance
- Elderly appearance: Introduced with graying hair; her severed head is later described as white-haired 15 18.
- Martial soul manifestation: Surrounded by a Blood Wolf phantom, bloody afterimages, and blood-colored wolf claws 18.
- Headless state: Crawls on all fours with black blood and tiny black insects spilling from her neck 18.
- Final deterioration: Holy-light burns leave scabs across her body before her flesh and bones crumble into charcoal 19.
Personality
The old woman uses a kindly hostess persona to conceal calculated violence. She insists that Ji Feng try her homemade rice wine, offers him lodging, and hides her family’s cultivation before attempting to capture him. Once his hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring appears, she immediately identifies the possibility that he possesses a valuable Soul Bone 15.
Her devotion to the “Supreme True God” governs the household. She strikes Ziqiang for questioning her orders and forbids her sons from touching female captives because she considers that a defilement of sacrificial offerings. The family leaves no survivors among its kidnapping victims 17.
Seeing Ziqiang killed drives her into a furious attack. After losing her head, she continues fighting and invoking her god, but her persistence eventually gives way to fear and a desperate effort to reach the underground source sustaining her 17 18 19.
Abilities & Skills
Blood Wolf Martial Soul
An agility-type beast martial soul supported by one yellow Soul Ring 18.
- Wolf-claw Soul Skill: Produces fast, blood-colored claws that cut through Ji Feng’s dragon scales and wound his arm and abdomen 18.
- Speed and timing: Exploits the recovery interval after Dragon Shadow Strike to launch a follow-up attack 18.
- Resistance to intimidation: Unlike her sons’ martial souls, her Blood Wolf appears unusually resistant to Ji Feng’s draconic suppression 17.
- Destructive blood aura: Releases a wolf-head apparition capable of tearing apart the hostage room. Ji Feng senses that this power belongs to another being, with the old woman serving as its vessel 17 18.
Contaminated Soul Power
Her Soul Power carries an invasive taint that behaves unlike ordinary human Soul Power 18.
- Invades Ji Feng’s meridians when absorbed through the Northern Darkness Divine Skill 18.
- Leaves behind a dark-red, wriggling mass of flesh that Ji Feng expels; it then burrows underground 18.
- Does not prevent absorption: Ji Feng drains her entire Soul Power supply within two breaths 18.
Regeneration and Headless Survival
The underground red light sustains her body after decapitation and the destruction of her head 18 19.
- Tiny insects enter her body and repair damaged tissue 19.
- The red light enhances her strength, speed, and Soul Power 19.
- She continues moving despite tearing open much of her own torso to escape Ji Feng’s claw 18.
- Weakness — holy light: Ji Feng’s holy-lit attacks burn her faster than the insects can repair her, eventually destroying her body 18 19.
Ambush and Poisoning
Her preferred opening against Ji Feng is concealment and poisoning rather than direct combat 15.
- Uses the Mist Ring to prevent him from sensing the family’s cultivation 15.
- Uses homemade rice wine as part of the poisoning trap; the toxin leaves him dizzy and unable to move normally 15.
- The poison nearly kills Ji Feng after his escape. He survives by cleansing it with Holy Light’s Blessing 16.
- Ji Feng later attributes the poison’s unusual effectiveness to the underground red light supporting the family 19.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Taiping Village Ambush
When Ji Feng seeks food and directions, the family presents itself as a modest, welcoming household. The old woman’s poisoned hospitality exposes the trap, while his martial soul transformation reveals his hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring. She orders her sons to prevent his escape, suspecting that he carries a Soul Bone 15.
Ji Feng breaks through a wall and escapes into the Undead Demiplane. The family cannot track him, and he returns after recovering to free the captive sisters and retaliate against their kidnappers 16.
Battle and Death
Bloody patterns spreading through the house alert the old woman to trouble in the hostage room. She orders the sisters killed, but Ji Feng arrives with the mortally wounded Ziqiang and tears him apart in front of her 17.
Their ensuing duel destroys much of the room. Ji Feng drains her Soul Power, decapitates her, and crushes her head, only to discover that her corpse remains active. He switches to holy-light attacks and pursues her until the regeneration fails, finally reducing her to charcoal 17 18 19.
Posthumous Revelations
Her death leads Ji Feng to investigate the concealed cellar, its magic array, and Spider-Woman. The spirit later admits that she withheld her full support during the fight because she wanted Ji Feng to kill the old woman and remove the obstacle to her freedom 20 21 23 24.
The old woman’s death alone does not release Spider-Woman from the array. Ji Feng’s eventual removal of the Bagua Mirror supplies the escape route the spirit needs 24.
