Background / History
Earth and the delayed awakening
Ji Feng was the sole heir of an ancient martial arts family on Earth. He awakened one morning as an orphan in the Douluo world, retaining both the Northern Darkness Divine Skill, a Carefree Sect secret art, and knowledge of the original novel’s characters and events 2 5.
From age six onward, Zhu Chen repeatedly failed to awaken his Martial Soul. Ji Feng secretly used those procedures to cultivate by absorbing the teacher’s Soul Power. He suspected that his technique’s unusual circulation routes had altered his meridians, increasing the energy needed for awakening 1 2.
Three days before his first appearance, Ji Feng rescued an injured Yan Shaozhe in the woods. Yan subsequently championed his awakening and supplied eight Heavenly Soul Stones. Ji Feng illuminated all eight—surpassing Mu En’s four-stone result—and shattered them, yet still failed to awaken his Martial Soul. Yan took him to Shrek Academy to seek Mu En’s help 1 2 3.
Shrek Academy and Mu En’s betrayal
While waiting beside Sea God Lake, Ji Feng completed his technique’s first level and was attacked by Ma Xiaotao during an evil-fire rampage. He absorbed her uncontrolled Soul Power, dragged her into the lake before she could release a Soul Skill, and drained enough power to leave her unconscious. Yan Shaozhe removed the remaining evil fire, while Elder Zhuang repaired Ji Feng’s meridians 3 4.
Mu En used a Dragon Core to awaken Ji Feng’s Defiant Evil Dragon. Ji Feng heard a girl pleading from within the core, but declined to intervene because he could neither defeat Mu En nor safely predict the consequences of releasing her. The awakening revealed opposing divine and demonic-slaughter attributes, followed by a zero innate Soul Power result 5 6 7.
Shrek provided comfortable quarters, Inner Court meals, and Zhang Lexuan’s supervision. Suspicious of that supervision, Ji Feng secretly tested his second, spatial Martial Soul. Before he could escape, Mu En summoned him under the pretext of resolving his cultivation problem. Instead, Mu En used his blood in a ritual intended to evolve Bei Bei’s Martial Soul into Ji Feng’s dragon, admitting that Ji Feng would be left vegetative 8 9.
When Mu En and Bei Bei relinquished control of their Soul Power for the ritual, Ji Feng activated his absorption technique through the blood connection. He survived the resulting physical and mental damage with assistance from the Dragon Core, drained Mu En to death, and escaped through a spatial distortion powered by the elder’s shattered Soul Cores 10 11.
Star Dou Great Forest and the dragon’s sacrifice
Ji Feng emerged unconscious on the outskirts of the Star Dou Great Forest. Electrolux’s remnant entered his mind, giving him access to an Undead Space through his mutated spatial Martial Soul. The Dragon Core explained that he could advance by converting Mu En’s stored energy rather than accumulating Soul Power conventionally, although Soul Rings remained necessary to unlock its use 12.
Before he could hunt an appropriate first-ring beast, Ji Feng encountered the hundred-thousand-year Red-Eyed Silver Dragon King. The dragon drank his blood and collapsed, transferring a red Soul Ring and matching arm Soul Bones to him. Ji Feng reached level twenty and stored the enormous body in his demiplane. Its apparent death did not end its activity: it later opened its eyes, spoke in a girl’s voice, and intervened against Spider-Woman 13 14 16 24.
Recognizing Shrek as his greatest remaining threat, Ji Feng decided to flee toward the Sun Moon Empire through the Heaven Dou Empire. After five days of forest travel, he reached Taiping Village seeking food and directions 14.
Taiping Village and Spider-Woman
A seemingly hospitable household poisoned Ji Feng and revealed itself as a Holy Spirit Cult gang. He escaped through his Blood Gate and purged the poison with Holy Light’s Blessing. Returning to retaliate, he discovered the captive Shrek students Liu Chunmiao and Liu Jieqi, then killed both sons and their mother. The mother’s contaminated Soul Power and postmortem regeneration forced him to burn her repeatedly with holy light 15 16 17 18 19.
Ji Feng searched for the red light sustaining the mother and uncovered a hidden cellar with the sisters’ help. He refused to escort them back to Shrek, prepared an escape anchor with his blood, and entered the cellar to investigate the remaining spirit. A Bagua Mirror revealed how a girl named Xiaoyue had been fused with a Man Faced Demon Spider to create Spider-Woman 20 21 22.
Spider-Woman offered allegiance and assistance if Ji Feng freed her from the ritual array. He rejected her attempt to make him speak her name, but carried her mirror into the Undead Demiplane, intending to suppress her with its light and investigate her regeneration. The plan failed: she was a peak Soul Emperor, and his control over the demiplane was insufficient. She trapped him in an Eight Trigrams Formation; the dragon body dispersed her fire attack before she retaliated with thunder 23 24.
Appearance
Ji Feng has a sturdy build despite his age. After absorbing Mu En’s power, he grows slightly taller and develops balanced proportions, defined but non-bulky muscles, and ice-jade skin with a faint golden sheen 1 10 11 12.
- Dragon possession: Black-and-white scales cover his body; his hands can form dragon claws or scaled palms 11 18.
- Divided radiance: Divine white light occupies his left side, while blood-and-ink demonic darkness occupies his right during awakening 6 7.
- Arm-bone manifestation: Matching armored bracers cover his arms to the wrists, leaving his fingers exposed. The left is holy white and the right ink-black, with roaring dragon heads on the backs of his hands 13.
- Clothing: Wears a Shrek uniform during his stay at the academy and later changes into beast-hide clothing while traveling 10 16.
Personality
Ji Feng is irreverent toward authority and rarely displays the awe expected of a child. He calls Yan Shaozhe “Old Yan,” teases Mu En directly, and uses sarcasm even after life-threatening injuries. His previous-life experience with martial experts helps explain his lack of intimidation around powerful cultivators 1 4 5.
He conceals his cultivation method, prior-world knowledge, and emerging abilities whenever disclosure would weaken his position. His caution is practical rather than absolute: he initially refuses to help the girl in the Dragon Core, prepares blood anchors before entering dangerous places, and chooses flight over an unwinnable confrontation with Shrek 2 5 8 14 21.
Betrayal provokes ruthless retaliation. During Mu En’s ritual, Ji Feng is willing to die if he can take Mu En and Bei Bei with him. He later returns to the poisoned household rather than simply escaping, killing its captors without hesitation 10 16 17 19.
His desire for useful power can override his caution. He preserves the dragon’s body for potential materials or an undead servant, investigates the cult’s sustaining red light, and tries to acquire Spider-Woman’s regeneration. That last ambition exposes him to an opponent he cannot control 14 19 22 24.
Ji Feng also helps people without accepting their demands. He rescues the Liu sisters but refuses to escort them to Shrek, and states that leaving the cellar’s spirit behind would endanger future victims. His stated responsibility coexists with a concealed interest in acquiring the entity’s power 20 21.
Abilities & Skills
Northern Darkness Divine Skill
A previous-life cultivation art that absorbs foreign Soul Power through acupuncture points and converts it into Ji Feng’s own energy 2 4.
- First-level circulation: Begins at the Shaoshang point on the thumb and ends at the Shanzhong point in the chest, where a vortex stores and processes absorbed power 3 4.
- Absorption conditions: Can drain weaker opponents or power that has been left uncontrolled through unconsciousness, death, or a rampage. A stronger opponent consciously controlling their power can initially resist absorption 9.
- Self-strengthening suction: Once established, absorption strengthens the vortex. During the ritual, Mu En cannot stop it by reclaiming control; struggling feeds Ji Feng further 10.
- Cultivation strategy: Ji Feng prefers an empty reserve that can accept enemy power during combat. He considers only exceptionally pure Soul Power worth retaining long-term 4 7.
- Stored-energy conversion: Can refine Mu En’s sealed power instead of drawing energy from the environment; the described method is over a hundred times more efficient than ordinary cultivation 12.
- Risks: Excessive or volatile power can damage his meridians. The cult mother’s contaminated energy invades them and produces a wriggling lump of flesh that he expels 4 10 18.
- Mental recovery: Reciting its first-level formula helps repair his cracking Sea of Consciousness during Mu En’s absorption 11.
Defiant Evil Dragon
An unprecedented dragon Martial Soul whose divine and demonic-slaughter attributes coexist equally rather than destroying one another 6 7.
- Divine attribute: Identified by Mu En as purer and stronger than ordinary light, with potential to support a path to godhood—not proof that Ji Feng has attained it 6.
- Demonic slaughter: An attribute above ordinary darkness, associated with judgment and killing 6.
- Martial Soul suppression: Frightens Mu En’s Radiant Sacred Dragon and suppresses the gang members’ bear and Poison Wolf Martial Souls. The cult mother’s Blood Wolf shows unusual resistance 7 16 17.
- Protective transformation: Generates scales and a film of dragon power over his organs, bones, flesh, and meridians while Mu En’s power remodels him 11.
- Holy-light attacks: Burn the revived cult mother faster than her regenerative organisms can repair her 18 19.
- Combat estimate: Ji Feng believes Martial Soul Possession could let him defeat weaker Soul Ancestors; this is his assessment rather than a demonstrated victory at that rank 14.
First Soul Ring
| Property / Skill | Details |
|---|---|
| Source and age | Red-Eyed Silver Dragon King; hundred-thousand-year ring received through sacrifice 13 |
| Appearance | Blood-red with five faint silver markings 13 |
| Dragon Rend Strike | Repeatable, high-damage single-target attack. Used with the arm bones to kill the gang’s sons 14 16 17 |
| Dragon Shadow Strike | Rapid straight-line attack usable for evasion, escape, or repositioning. Demonstrated as a five-meter movement and used to smash through a wall 14 16 18 |
| Limit | Dragon Shadow Strike leaves a brief recovery opening that the cult mother exploits 18 |
Space Martial Soul and Blood Gate
Ji Feng’s second Martial Soul initially manifests as silver light and spatial distortion in his left hand. Electrolux’s arrival mutates it and links him to the Undead Space, also called the Undead Demiplane 8 9 12.
- Soul Power requirement: Cannot initially tear through space while his Soul Power reserve is empty 9.
- Blood Gate: Opens a doorway by scattering his blood; residual blood can serve as an anchor for returning to the continent 12 16.
- Concealed escape: The cult household sees him vanish but cannot perceive or follow his Blood Gate 16.
- Storage and shelter: Holds water, clothing, and the dragon’s body, and provides a refuge for recovery and cultivation 14 16.
- Expansion: Reaches nearly one hundred square meters after his level-twenty breakthrough 14.
- Control limit: Its light-rich environment does not automatically subdue powerful enemies. Ji Feng cannot sufficiently suppress the peak-Soul-Emperor Spider-Woman 24.
Arm Soul Bone Skills
| Soul Bone | Skill | Effect | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holy Dragon Left Arm Bone | Holy Light’s Blessing | Releases holy light to fully heal and restore Ji Feng. Demonstrated purging the gang’s poison and healing his battle wounds 13 16 18. | Three uses per day; activated with Soul Power 13. |
| Demon Dragon Right Arm Bone | Demonic Slaughter’s Curse | Imbues attacks with demonic slaughter, corrodes an opponent’s meridians, and causes blindness and confusion for three to five seconds 13. | Three uses per day; activated with Soul Power 13. |
- Both bones come from the Red-Eyed Silver Dragon King and match his Martial Soul’s opposing attributes 13.
- Their combined manifestation boosts his strength during the attack that kills Ziqiang 17.
Reconstructed Physique
Mu En’s absorbed Soul Power and the Dragon Core’s restorative energy repeatedly destroy and rebuild Ji Feng’s body 10 11.
- His muscles, meridians, fascia, blood vessels, and organs become at least ten times tougher than before 11.
- His Conception and Governing Vessels are completely opened and expanded, holding a portion of Mu En’s power 12.
- His Martial Soul gives resistance to most toxins, but the gang’s unusual poison still nearly kills him 16.
- Improved durability does not make him invulnerable: the cult mother inflicts deep wounds, and Spider-Woman remains beyond his ability to confront directly 18 24.
