Background / History
Recruitment Attempts at the Tournament
As both the Holy Spirit Cult’s leader and the Sun Moon Empire’s imperial preceptor, Zhongli Wu watches the Continental Soul Master Tournament from a private VIP box. Reports about Luo Feng first attract his interest; witnessing Luo Feng’s time domain strengthen allies while debilitating opponents convinces him that the young Soul Master is worth recruiting 14.
When Luo Feng withholds his other abilities, Zhongli Wu sends the Blue Silver Saintess, Tang Ya, to approach him. Luo Feng instead uses Time Stop to move Tang Ya and Bei Bei into Shrek Academy’s camp. Despite being at full strength, Zhongli Wu cannot perceive how she was taken and suspects Luo Feng’s involvement 15 16.
Zhongli Wu subsequently orders Yan Feng’s group to capture Luo Feng. The operation fails, and Luo Feng kills Yan Feng despite his claim to be Zhongli Wu’s personal disciple. Following further clashes, cult survivors report the deaths of more than eighty experts at Soul Saint rank or above, including three Titled Douluos. Long Xiaoyao warns Zhongli Wu against retaliating, prompting him to conceal the losses and forbid further provocation of Luo Feng under penalty of death 17 18 22.
Feng Ling’s Defeat
Zhongli Wu continues trying to expose Luo Feng’s abilities through the tournament, supporting Ma Xiaotao’s participation alongside the Sun Moon team. Before her confrontation with Luo Feng, he secretly gives her instructions. She proposes a wager requiring Luo Feng to join the cult if he loses, but Luo Feng defeats and restrains her 23 25.
Rather than abandon the operation, Zhongli Wu orders Feng Ling to attack even though Ma Xiaotao could be injured. Luo Feng counters with Momentary Bloom: Dragon Emperor Judgment, rapidly aging Feng Ling. Zhongli Wu pours Soul Power into his wife but cannot halt the deterioration; threatened with another strike, he retreats with her 25 26.
After Zhang Peng is killed by the same aging technique, Zhongli Wu becomes enraged while watching Feng Ling’s remaining vitality drain away. Ye Xishui rebukes him for allowing personal grief to distract him from the cult’s millennium-long plan and takes responsibility for confronting Luo Feng herself 28.
Invasion and Assassination Plans
Following Xu Tianran’s accession, Zhongli Wu receives command of the Sun Moon Empire’s vanguard. The invasion is to target Heaven Dou and Dou Ling first, with Star Luo left until later. The cult expects wartime deaths to supply wronged souls that can nourish Ye Xishui and strengthen its Evil Soul Masters. By this point, Zhongli Wu has abandoned recruitment and wants Luo Feng and the Earth Dragon Sect destroyed 31.
Luo Feng’s appointment as Heaven Dou’s vanguard commander gives Zhongli Wu a direct military target. However, Luo Feng captures Ju Zi and exposes a succession scandal that destabilizes Xu Tianran’s rule. As the Sun Moon army falls into disarray and the cult’s hoped-for soul harvest collapses, Zhongli Wu pushes for an assassination despite warnings about Luo Feng’s protection 34 35 36.
Ambush and Accelerated Aging
Zhongli Wu attacks Luo Feng’s camp with Evil Soul Masters, supported by Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao. His Death God Demon Puppet attempts a surprise scythe strike from behind, but Luo Feng’s dragon armor blocks it. The supposed ordinary soldiers then reveal themselves as allied Soul Douluos and Titled Douluos, exposing the prepared ambush 36.
Zhongli Wu summons his Bone Dragon, but Luo Feng’s Dragon Emperor’s Divine Might weakens its control seal and briefly allows it to attack its captor. While Zhongli Wu struggles to restore control, Luo Feng fires Dragon Emperor Judgment. Zhongli Wu intercepts the attack with his life-bound puppet, initially believing himself safe 37 38.
The puppet’s destruction transfers the aging damage through its connection to Zhongli Wu. His organs and meridians deteriorate, his hair turns white and begins falling out, and his body becomes stooped and frail. Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao cannot reverse the effect; Ye Xishui’s blood essence only preserves a sliver of life. Luo Feng accepts a negotiated withdrawal, but Du Busi blocks the departing group before their escape is completed 38.
Appearance
- Before the aging attack: A powerful body appearing to be in the prime of youth, with long gray-black hair 38.
- After Dragon Emperor Judgment: Completely white hair followed by hair loss, a bent and stooping body, and weakness severe enough that he cannot firmly hold the Death God’s Scythe 38.
Personality
Zhongli Wu is acquisitive and obsessive about exceptional power. Luo Feng’s refusal to reveal his full abilities intensifies his desire to investigate and recruit him. He uses intermediaries, coercive capture attempts, and a tournament wager rather than relying on a straightforward invitation 14 15 17 25.
His ruthlessness coexists with tactical caution. He authorizes an attack that could injure Ma Xiaotao, yet suppresses retaliation when Long Xiaoyao explains that Luo Feng is too dangerous to confront blindly. Later, the collapse of the cult’s war plans drives him into a desperate assassination attempt 22 25 35 36.
His attachment to Feng Ling repeatedly overwhelms his composure. Her deterioration provokes grief and rage, while witnessing her aging leaves him fearful of Luo Feng’s technique. He also yields readily to the authority of Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao 22 26 28 38.
Abilities & Skills
Death God Demon Puppet
Zhongli Wu’s life-bound martial soul can attack independently and act as a substitute for his body 36 37.
- Surprise attack: Appears through a spatial opening behind Luo Feng and swings a Death God Scythe at him 36.
- Substitution: Intercepts Dragon Emperor Judgment before it directly reaches Zhongli Wu 37 38.
- Critical vulnerability: Its life connection prevents it from isolating the aging damage. When the puppet shatters, the effect spreads to Zhongli Wu’s own body 38.
Bone Dragon Control
Zhongli Wu commands an undead dragon whose soul he imprisoned after finding it in an ice cave. Its Silver Dragon King blessing makes it an exceptional Dragon Clan specimen 37.
- Suppression aura: Its roar reduces the combat strength of nearby soldiers and even Titled Douluos by 30% 37.
- Soul Seal: Forces the dragon to obey; Zhongli Wu can reinforce the seal with a dark-red rune 37.
- Bloodline vulnerability: Luo Feng’s Dragon Emperor pressure suppresses the seal, restores a fragment of the dragon’s awareness, and causes it to turn on Zhongli Wu 37.
- Forced obedience: Restoring the seal leaves the dragon thrashing in visible agony rather than willingly submitting 37.
Soul Power
- Peak cultivation: Possesses level-98 Super Douluo strength and nine Soul Rings 16 26.
- Voice transmission: Secretly communicates instructions to Ma Xiaotao before her wager 25.
- Life support attempt: Channels substantial evil Soul Power into Feng Ling, but cannot reverse time-based aging 26.
- Self-recovery limit: His own Soul Power likewise fails to stop the aging inflicted through the puppet 38.
