History
Return to the Duke’s Mansion
Dai Hao rarely visits the White Tiger Duke’s Mansion, with Huo Yuhao describing the intervals as one or two years. After receiving news of Yuhao’s innate full soul power, he returns with two personal guards shortly after a fire threatens Huo Yun’er’s life 2 3.
His affectionate reunion is disrupted when Yuhao exposes the Duchess’s insults toward his mother and the household’s refusal to recognize his Dai surname. Dai Hao interrogates the steward and catches his evasion when he awkwardly attempts to use that surname. Although angered by their treatment, Dai Hao allows the Duchess to withdraw without resolving the household’s underlying power imbalance 3.
He gives Yuhao a storage ring containing cultivation resources, then personally introduces him to nobles in Star Luo City as his third son. They subsequently leave for the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain Yuhao’s first soul ring 3 4.
Soul Hunt and Military Training
Dai Hao adapts the Dai Family’s traditional soul-ring sequence to suit Yuhao’s mutated martial soul. During a physical examination, a force inside Yuhao destroys his probing soul power and frightens his White Tiger martial soul. He interprets this unexpected resistance as evidence of an exceptionally powerful mutation 4.
Their hunt produces an 850-year-old Winged Heavenly God Tiger. Dai Hao swiftly incapacitates it, and Yuhao delivers the finishing blow. After the ring is absorbed, Dai Hao praises the resulting enhancement skill and stresses the importance of planning combinations across all nine future soul rings 5.
Rather than returning Yuhao to the mansion, Dai Hao takes the six-year-old to the army camp near the Brightmoon Mountain Range. He intends to train him as his military successor, citing his innate talent and potential to become a Titled Douluo. Yuhao objects to the danger, but Dai Hao dismisses his age as a sufficient reason to keep him away from military life 6.
An assassination attempt a month later deepens their conflict. Yuhao accuses Dai Hao of using him as bait; Dai Hao denies this and argues that the assigned guards responded promptly. Their argument gives way to a discussion of the border campaign, where Yuhao’s analysis begins earning his father’s respect 7.
Yuhao as an Adviser and Huo Yun’er’s Death
Following Yuhao’s suggestion, Dai Hao sends Soul Saints to investigate a suspected underground enemy weapons depot. Their return with Soul Guidance Ray Guns and Soul Cannons confirms the theory. Dai Hao increasingly treats Yuhao as an adjutant rather than a small child, and their military cooperation continues over the following years 8.
As he prepares to send Yuhao to Shrek Academy, Dai Hao receives news that Huo Yun’er has supposedly died of a sudden illness. Her body has already been cremated when they return. He insists that her remains be moved into the Dai Family’s ancestral burial ground, and his attitude toward the Duchess becomes colder 8.
At Yun’er’s vigil, Yuhao proposes that a mole serving another faction may be responsible rather than the Duchess herself. Dai Hao later accepts Yuhao’s request to use his mother’s surname and conceal their connection in his Shrek recommendation letter. He also promises support if Yuhao suffers injustice at the academy 8 9.
Renewed Border Campaign
While Yuhao studies at Shrek, Dai Hao sends advice through Dai Yueheng, urging him to keep a lower profile and avoid challenging teachers. He later requests Yuhao’s return to camp during the holiday 17 27.
By the time Yuhao arrives, repeated Sun Moon Empire attacks have left the White Tiger troops exhausted and anxious. Dai Hao grants him operational authority through his half of the military tally. Yuhao’s harassment campaign leads to the capture of an enemy camp and pushes the opposing front line back five hundred meters 28 29.
Dai Hao initially questions Yuhao’s decision to abandon the captured ground, but accepts the withdrawal and booby-trap strategy. During a subsequent night raid, he prevents Yuhao from personally leading the charge. Yuhao’s detection of a counter-ambush vindicates this caution, and the conflict settles into another stalemate 29 30.
Afterward, Dai Hao supplies a flying soul tool for Yuhao’s Far North journey and arranges an extended leave of absence from Shrek. Yuhao has presented the trip as a search for a spiritual treasure suitable for tiger-type soul beasts 30.
Personality
Dai Hao is decisive and accustomed to military expectations. He can shift immediately from casual conversation to violent action, and he expects Yuhao to demonstrate competence despite being only six. When challenged over inadequate protection, he becomes defensive and invokes the reputation of the White Tiger Duke’s son 5 6 7.
His concern for Yuhao grows alongside his recognition of the boy’s talent. He provides resources, acknowledges his judgment, and eventually delegates significant command authority. This practical trust does not fully repair their family bond: Yuhao continues to regard their relationship as an exchange of interests rather than one founded on affection 8 9 28 34.
He values the Dai Family’s martial legacy and resents the circumstances under which a previous generation donated a hundred-thousand-year Winged Heavenly God Tiger soul bone to Shrek Academy. Nevertheless, he actively supports his sons’ education there 4 5 8.
Abilities & Skills
White Tiger Martial Soul
Dai Hao possesses a White Tiger martial soul and eight soul rings described as having an ideal configuration 4 5.
- Martial Soul Possession: Uses tiger claws to seize an 850-year-old Winged Heavenly God Tiger and tear out its spine before Yuhao finishes it 5.
- Speed: His casual movement is fast enough that the ringless Yuhao must use Qiongqi’s wings to keep up 5.
- Soul-power control: Sends a small strand of soul power into Yuhao’s body to examine his physical foundation 4.
- Limitation: That probing strand is destroyed by Yuhao’s internal power, while his White Tiger martial soul experiences fear 4.
Soul Hunting and Cultivation Instruction
Dai Hao draws on the Dai Family’s established White Tiger cultivation methods when guiding Yuhao 3 4 5.
- Selects a hunting route, observation point, and drinking pool used by Diamond Tigers 4.
- Assesses Yuhao as capable of absorbing an approximately nine-hundred-year first ring and potentially a thousand-year second ring with further physical conditioning 4.
- Recognizes the rare Winged Heavenly God Tiger and warns that its intelligence may allow it to self-destruct to deny hunters a soul ring 4 5.
- Teaches meditation and explains soul bones and Martial Soul Fusion Skills 5 6 24.
- Emphasizes long-term skill synergy rather than judging a cultivation path by one or two individual soul skills 5.
Military Command
Dai Hao commands the White Tiger Legion and conducts border operations against the Sun Moon Empire 7 8.
- Has Soul Saint-level personnel available for reconnaissance, strikes, and personal protection 8.
- Holds a half tiger tally that, with his endorsement, enables Yuhao to mobilize troops 28.
- Provides military supplies and rewards successful service with access to the stores 28 29.
- His predictable patrol arrangements become a weakness against an enemy capable of anticipating his routes 28.
Equipment / Items Supplied
- Storage ring and cultivation resources — Given to Yuhao after the household’s neglect is exposed 3.
- White Tiger Dagger — An earlier gift from Dai Hao, used by Yuhao to finish his first soul-ring target 5.
- Battle Saber — A soul-tool weapon given to Yuhao upon entering camp; its grade is unspecified 6.
- Half tiger tally — Entrusted to Yuhao as authorization to deploy troops 28.
- Flying soul tool — Supplied for Yuhao’s journey to the Far North 30.
Relationships
- Huo Yuhao — Third son, intended military successor, and trusted battlefield adviser. Material support and growing respect coexist with Yuhao’s resentment over neglect and danger 3 4 6 28 34.
- Huo Yun’er — Mother of his third son. His long absences leave her isolated in the mansion; after her death, he insists on her burial in the Dai ancestral grounds 2 3 8.
- The Duchess — Wife whose influence dominates the mansion during his absences. Yuhao’s accusations expose her mistreatment of Yun’er, and her account of Yun’er’s death further cools Dai Hao’s attitude toward her 3 8.
- Dai Yueheng — Son competing to inherit his title. Relays Dai Hao’s warnings and requests to Yuhao, while seeking to improve his own standing with their father 17 18 27.
- Dai Huabin — Son and another contender for the inheritance. Dai Yueheng considers Huabin’s Hell White Tiger fusion skill an important advantage in winning Dai Hao’s favor 23 25 26.
- The steward — Household subordinate whom Dai Hao rebukes for concealing Yuhao and Yun’er’s treatment 3.
